carroll was a good keeper for us and falls into the catagory of thought he was better than what he was and wanted to move on to bigger and better things. wasnt good enough at utd and was never heard of again…..until tonight. always ran the length of the pitch at the end of games to applaud the south stand, ulsters n0 1

No real competition since Pat Jennings quit
5 December 2012 at 3:48 am #97724Roy Carroll on TV now in goal for Olympiakos v Arsenal :)
He was as good a goalie as I’ve seen playing for us, but I think his attituKde was a bit questionable. Do you remember him squaring up to De Zeeuw and having a right tantrum? And hasn’t he had some gambling problems or something?
Probably never reached the heights he was capable of. That said, he did have a spell at United and has played for some big clubs. Wikipedia says he Even had a spell with Bruce Rioch at Odense BK in Denmark, I think. After googling it i Seem to remember he came on as a sub for his first Olympiakos appearance…..saving a penalty with his first touch.
Was the Reading play off Semi at the Madjeski his last game for us? Thats what it says on wikipedia, If so, he possibly saved a penalty with his last touch for us…..unfortunately Reading knocked in the rebound. :([/quote]
Fixed it for you ;)
5 December 2012 at 3:15 pm #97735I.m.o.best keeper we’ve had in my time watching Wigan.Granted he has made a couple of errors recently but lets also remember he is playing in the prem and not the lower leagues and i’m sure he’d be on a wish list of a few other premiership teams. We might be in the bottom five but as keepers go he’d be in the prems top 3 for me .Top 3 ? I would have him about half way down out of the current 20 keepers in the Prem ! Might start a new thread on this subject !
6 December 2012 at 7:14 am #97773Playing behind a defence like ours last season and on average his form
has been outstanding.Cech playing behind the likes of Terry has dropped as many clangers if not more than most and he has seen better days .Please remember that our keeper will come under more pressure than most and based on that alone and the no of times he has singled handed kept us in a game puts him high up the prem top keepers list.6 December 2012 at 2:29 pm #97781Playing behind a defence like ours last season and on average his form

Lets just imagine if Chelsea came knocking and suggested a straight swap, what do you think RM would do ? What do you think the majority of fans would want ? I personally would take Cech !

Could be possibly more bold with this statement, as I believe anyone with their head screwed on would take Cech, I believe anyone that states that they wouldn’t are doing so JUST to try and prove a point. (Not that this situation would ever happen :P )

In my posting the word ” Imagine ” is the key word ! :)
27 December 2012 at 4:20 pm #98700England’s finest has had a good Xmas period /last month or so …
b@llocked by his manager in 2-3 derby defeat (RVP winner); copped for another howler yesterday. Lost count the number of goals he’s given away to his LHS this season.
Can probably thank his luck stars he doesn’t play in an error-prone defensive back-line for Latics. Would really test his mettle ! Bring down his confidence (arrogance?) a peg or two.
‘Joe Hart’s form is costing Manchester City dear’
Enjoy B)
