Opinions should be based on facts. The facts are that the a Premier league has provided finalists in 7 out of 8 Champions league finals. More than any other country. Given thats the only competition where the respective leagues play each other its fair to say our league is at worst on a par with la liga.

        l’pool (pens)lucky

Moreover Big Roy, it’s by far the most watched football league in the world, attracting the biggest audiences and the most investment, so in answer to sirdavewhelan’s challenge…

we’ll have this conversation in 5 years and see where the prem is at!

…it’ll be in exactly the same place. If this set of investors throw in the towel, there will be another set of them ready to take their place, and as long as the league has Man Utd, Liverpool and Arsenal, most of the world will still want to watch it.

          Correct.

Wigan Athletic BTW are apparently the only side that are live on Spanish TV EVERY week.

the utd v chelsea final was terrible
the chelsea v B Munchen final was terrible
the AC milan v l’pool final was the better of the three, but still went to penalties and l’pool were very LUCKY to win it

p.s. theres plenty of goals in a penalty shoot out…NONE of which count toward a players goal scoring stats…therefore “technically” not goals ;)

My last stat was actually wrong. Given one final featured two English teams the facts are we have had 8 out of 8 English teams in last 8 CL finals with us having 3 different winners in this time. In addition to this as stated the league gets the most investment from television companies seeking what I would imagine is ‘entertainment’ for their global audiences. Still. Forget all the facts. Lets talk delusion! Lets insist the league has now been overtaken by the Bundesliga, is in a terminal decline and all CL records should be eradicated as English teams won their Finals on penalties. Deal?

                Sir Dave

I’d go back to bullying rubgy fans if I were you, given the absolute rag-dolling you’re getting from your own on here.

Even a mis-spelled TV dog is doing you ;)

if stating facts is getting “rag-dolled”????(wtf) then your publication gathering dust on the bar in the brick mustn’t be worth buying then!

2 rashers with mine please, no brown sauce.

It may well be gatherimng dust but that has absolutely no bearing on the first part of your sentence. Not for the first time, you make no sesne whatsoever.

Your main “fact” is that you don’t believe the Premier League to be the best in the world. You are entitled to your opinion but the fact that there are people queueing up to disagree with seems to indicate that you have a minority view.

i think its more to do with Samba’s club recouping the amount they paid for him – plus a little more to release him from his contract.

agree totally though. Mad amount of money that……..

Ye, they pretty much got exactly what they paid for him (12 and half mill).

He had a £12.5m release clause, so QPR’s bid triggered that.
Would’ve thought they’d have made it a little higher so they were always guaranteed a profit?

Also, he was on £100k/week at Anzhi, so QPR have obviously just matched it.

Crazy money – he’s hardly world class.

I was saying only last week that the standard of the Premier League has diminished more and more each season since we got promoted.

The first season, it WAS the best League in the world. There was the likes of Arsenal, with Thierry Henry, Berhkamp, Pires, etc etc. United with Ronaldo, Rooney, Van Nistelrooy, Scholes, Giggs, etc. Chelsea were champions, and were on top of their game with Lampard, Terry, Drogba, etc at their best. And Liverpool were reigning European Champions.

English football at that point was at it’s pinnacle, I believe.

But since then, the absolute top-class players have left the Premiership, usually for La Liga. The standard we are at in 2013 is nowhere near as good as back in 2005. Not a chance. United are still top, but are nowhere near as good as they were. City only won the league last year because they spent about £300 million. There would be something wrong if they HADN’T won it! Plus United were just not good enough. Chelsea’s bubble has burst, Arsenal are hit and miss, Spurs are hot and cold…..

But for finances, those clubs would be no better than any other at this moment in time. The best of the the rest are Everton…and they are nowhere near winning the title. People say there’s a big gap between the Premiership and the Championship. I disagree. The top four or five clubs, yes, but only financially. From the 5th club down to the 20th, there’s not much between them and the top sides in the Championship.

Regarding the Bundesliga, the one thing it has in it’s favour is the fact that clubs are far more self sufficient, in that rather than spend millions on imports, they tend to bring a lot of young players through their youth systems, and it’s already paid dividends. When Borussia Dortmund won the Bundesliga a couple of years ago, their home-reared squad had an average age of only 22, the youngest side to ever win the Bundesliga. The clubs are far more sensibly ran, the quality of football is superb, and the fans pay very reasonable prices to watch the action.

Our very own GARSWOOD_LATIC is off to watch the Berlin Derby in 2 weeks. I hope he puts some photo’s on here from the Olympiastadion. It’s a Bundesliga 2 fixture, but it will attract a 70,000 crowd. It’s a great matchday expereience over there. You can get in to games for less than £20, the beer is decent, teh food is superb bratwurst sausages and frikadelen (burgers) sold at fair prices. It feels like a festival or something sometimes, under the beer tents and marquees. It’s tradition in Germany for away fans to ‘bring a keg’ and tap it open with opposition fans.

Over here in the Premiership, you walk to the stadium like a robot, pay £3 for a programme (if you bother), pay £3.50 for a pint of what is supposed to be ale….tastes like dishwater, and sit in your plastic seat, usually in an atmosphere that is like a morgue. If you want a burger, it’s another £3.50, or chips for £2……

£££££££££££. Shite. Deutchland Uber Alles. Any day.

Not even fully read this thread but agree with what you say..

The Prem isn’t the bst league in the world..

If Man Utd win the league this season, with that squad, then it says a lot about the quality of the league. B)
