If somebody could just help me out with Caldwell being at the club without playing, being in charge of the under 8’s and then becoming manager, compared to us just basically letting our FA Cup winning captain go a year away from a decade at the club. Anyone?

That’s dead easy. He was under contract, but injured. Then he retired as a player. Then he was appointed manager, somehting he had clearly been lined up to do.

Not sure what your point is? Not a rare occurence, granted.
The one additional point is that Caldwell signed a new contract last summer.
Why did the club agree to this? Because they were probably looking to the longer term to bring him into the coaching set-up, therefore created a dual role.
Maybe, who knows?!

Are you really Dave Whelan, like he has thousands of Jewish friends?

Everybody I’ve been in contact with, everyone I have read on social media and 95% on other website forums would seem to disagree with your made up hundreds. Most using the word disgrace.

I’m not getting into a slanging match over this, as much as you’d like to by making things up in your replies. When all is said and done the club will have the final say. That I or countless others disagree with them, seem to have no relevance in anything they do anymore. It is obvious that Mr Whelan is very much still in charge.

Ah foresight!
I’d have Boyce over Calamity any day, even if it was brewing up.
An upbeat feeling at close of season has washed away and has been replaced with a tightness around my pocket that is struggling to let my wallet out.

As a player or as a coach or manager?
I heard a bit of the “this is your life” with Boyce. One of the things I heard is that he has never been a good trainer, but always performed on matchday.
This doesn’t sound like the making of a coach to me.

I will forever be thankful for the service he has given and I am sad to see him go.
I personally wouldn’t begrudge him another season, but it has to make sense for both parties.
He will forever be associated with some of our most iconic moments, but his legs have gone. It reminds me of John Butler’s last season at the club and his time is up.

Back on form I see having one of your irrational meltdowns.

You are so, so spectacularly wrong, it’s unreal.

Fortunately, I would appear to mix in different circles. ;)

To be fair, you’re right though, and I have been a little Devil’s Advocate with the Boyce situation.

My initial reaction was one of shock and surprise and I could understand why he is upset. That said, I think disgrace is a bit strong and if I had been asked before hand whether I thought he would/should get a new deal, I would probably have said as a backup player only and if I had to go either way, I’d have gone with no.

As iconic as it was him lifting the FA Cup, and as upset as Paul Kendrick may or may not be about the way he has been treated, those factors should have very little bearing on how we build our squad for hnext season.

I said my season ticket was back on hold because the Boyce business has me thinking that there will be worse to come! I am not a blind faith merchant who would fork out the best part of £350 if a totally shite squad was assembled on the cheap whilst also understanding the position the club are now in re wage structure! I bet they bent over backwards to try and keep Fortuné here and what has he ever done for us?
The comments from the newspaper clip are predominantly against the club’s decision by the way! There does seem to be quite a few on here who will readily accept whatever the club throws at them though, they are the blind faith merchants ( Gotta get behind the club no matter what ) ! There is no common ground between them and the likes of me who has a voice! :) :)

And what possible grounds have you got for making that statement? Did they offer Fortune a pay as you play deal to see if he’d stay? No, have they bollocks. Hardly bending over backwards, that!

Nothing to do with being a “blind faith merchant” for me. More to do with being a Wigan Athletic fan no matter what league we are in, what players play for us and who the manager is.

Christ, the squad in my first season was dreadful.

Had they just spent their 8th consecutive season in the top flight and won the FA Cup 2 seasons earlier?

I’d like to think that they just fucked him off with no talks! Is there any evidence to say otherwise though? Have they just fucked off Kim and Kvist as well with no talks? Who knows? By me quoting “I bet” isn’t saying that I have any grounds whatsoever, the use of the word ‘Bet’ is also a view or opinion, especially about something that cannot be known at the present time! I can just imagine them trying to get him to stay albeit on the cheap!

Fairly pointless, then. Gratuitous and baseless slagging off, though there’s nothing new there, really.
