It’s written by a Wiganer (who doesn’t seem to know where the fullstop key is)
So, apart from an Asian betting website and a poorly written piece from a fellow Wigan Athletic fan, do you have any more examples of where the winners of the FA Cup are called FA Cup Champions?
How is the world and its literary contributors looking from up there in that gilded ivory tower. I bet the author of that piece will now feel humble knowing it has had your expert critique. I didn’t expect the sheep mentality from you.
I’m no literary genius, but I do know that the following requires more than 2 full stops.
‘Latics travel to the Etihad Stadium on Sunday as we continue to defend our title as FA Cup Champions, the game will be refereed by Wythenshawe official Anthony Taylor.
Select Group official and Altrincham fan Taylor hasn’t been in charge of a Latics game this campaign, looking back to last season he was in the middle for our trip to Southampton back in August, which of course we won, in that game he didn’t produce a card or make one dodgy decision, he was also in charge of our home defeat to Sunderland in January, definitely a game of two halves that one, he produced five yellows in that game, three to the Latics, two Sunderland players also going in the book and he also refereed our visit to the Etihad Stadium back in April 2013 when we lost 1-0 to City, three bookings that evening, two for City players, James McCarthy picking one up for the Latics.
Not one of my favourite match officials and in the past I have questioned Taylors competence as a top flight ref, he doesn’t appear to have much authority on the pitch and he does make some strange decisions, I hope that we aren’t talking about his performance come 6pm on Sunday as we were following a game with Fulham a couple of years back’
But, that’s beside the point. The point is, using this as reinforcement to the ‘FA Cup Champions argument is irrelevant.

Make of it as you wish.
4 March 2014 at 10:37 pm #128102Interesting? Really? We already know that there is a group of Wigan fans who have decided to call Wigan FA Cup Champions.
This just takes us back to ES2, where all this nonsense started. Are we going to accept all their chants as correct?
5 March 2014 at 12:40 am #128104‘CHAMPIONS’ and that’s what I’ll be singing Sunday, u lot can pretend to be in a church very sad .
5 March 2014 at 1:01 am #128105Of all the times this “champions” song has been sang,I have never heard an away fan correct us! So I suppose they get what is meant.

Perhaps the chant of “you’re just a small town in Villa” once heard being directed towards, err… Villa fans at the canal bridge ambush point doesn’t warrant correction either. Maybe to live in a state of perpetual ignorance is indeed bliss.
5 March 2014 at 2:35 am #128107’CHAMPIONS’ and that’s what I’ll be singing Sunday, u lot can pretend to be in a church very sad .We’ll be playing for the FA Cup on Sunday. We want to win the cup – again.
I’d rather belong to the long tradition of FA Cup winners.
5 March 2014 at 2:43 am #128108’CHAMPIONS’ and that’s what I’ll be singing Sunday, u lot can pretend to be in a church very sad .No but I’ll be cringing in Block 116. ;)
26 March 2014 at 4:54 pm #129017Sorry I couldn’t resist this, it made me chuckle in the club shop is a T shirt with FA CUP CHAMPIONS we know what we are , I think that ends the debate .

They’ve produced the t-shirt like that because that’s how it’s sung. Not becasue it’c correct. Bit patronising really, but it doesn’t matter because those that think that FA Cup Champions is correct won’t know what patronising means anyway.
26 March 2014 at 5:10 pm #129019Interesting term of phrase on the second line of the first paragraph.Interesting that you should use the – as it happens, incorrect – phrase “term of phrase” when what you should have said – to be correct – was “turn of phrase”.
it sort of precludes you from arguing about the relative correctness of, well er, other turns of phrase, doesn’t it? Well, it does in my opinion which, as we have apparently already established on this forum, is the only opinion that is allowed.

Bloody hell – not only do I think that FA Cup champions is a perfectly acceptable term to describe Latics, but since the start of the season on my visits to the DW (& maribor) I’ve been singing “We know who we are” not “what we are”
I’ve been making myself look a reet tw@t all this time!!! :blush: :blush:26 March 2014 at 5:46 pm #129023You are My Sunshine – they sing the wrong words to this too. The right ones aren’t difficult;
You are my sunshine
My only sunshine.
You make me happy
When skies are grey.
You’ll never know, dear,
How much I love you.
Please don’t take my sunshine away.Written by former Louisiana State Governor Jimmie Davis and Charles Mitchell. Copyright 1940 and 1977 by Peer International Corporation. This song is one of two official songs for the State of Louisiana.
