Don’t know why he didn’t hit it with his right foot. Shame really as it was great football.

That was one of our two shots on target.closest thing to a Latics foot in the box was Carson’s head.

Had Vaughan put his simple chance away then the game would have panned out completely different! That was one terrible miss for a player who goes under the guise of a striker![/qeuote]
I couldn’t agree more, I could have put than in with me John Holmes’s :)

The sending off wasn’t harsh at all. Their player was a stride away from getting the ball for what would have been an obvious goal scoring opportunity & Naismith pulled him back. Nailed on red.

How come, in the previous two weeks that neither the Bolton or Blackburn player who fouled the last man in the box and conceded a penalty was not even booked ?[/quote]

It’s never been part of the laws that it’s a sending off if it’s the “last man” – it has to be denying an obvious goal scoring opportunity. From memory Grigg at Bolton wasn’t as he was in no position to have an attempt at goal
With the Blackburn one, Mutty’s right – the laws were changed at the start of last season so if the foul is accidental and denies an obvious goal scoring opportunity then it isn’t a mandatory red. For that one the guy tripped over his own feet & caught our player as he was falling over.
In both instances therefore it should only have been a caution if it met the criteria for issuing one (reckless, cynical etc..). Giving away a penalty on its own isn’t an automatic caution even if some refs seem to give em for challenges that in any other area they wouldn’t have (which winds me up)

And Morsy and their player both went face to face with each other from what I’ve seen. Caution for Morsy for the original foul & caution for adopting an aggressive attitude for their fella for his immediate reaction to that foul.

I’ve only seen the highlights so can’t comment on the rest of his performance but in those 2 instances I feel the ref got it right

Naismith didn’t pull Wilson down at all. He put his hand on his shoulder and as soon as Wilson felt it he went down. There was never enough pressure to pull / push Wilson to the floor like that.
Typifies what’s wrong with footballat the moment. A player prefers to cheat rather than carry on to try and score.
Wilson dove in the box in second half too and the ref bottled it. A dive is supposed to be a booking and shows what kind of player Wilson really is. But that wasn’t shown on the highlights!

He pulled him back. With enough force to put him on the floor? Possibly not but it would still be a foul & still be a DOGSO – I do agree with you though in being sick & tired of players who make a meal of fouls. I once cautioned a player who had his shit pulled & went down like he’d been shot – gave the penalty as it was a foul but there was no need for s scream & throwing his arms in the air.

I haven’t seen the alleged dive as lime you say it wasn’t on the highlights. From what I’ve read elsewhere though, he didn’t appeal for it – in most cases a ref won’t caution in that instance even if they suspect that he deliberately fell over as you just get hit with the “he just fell over, he wasn’t looking for it” stick

I think we’ll have to agree to disagree TL. Wilson missed another opportunity actually inside the box after this so not sure it was an obvious scoring opportunity? And by the way, Wilson had his arms held aloft and looking at the ref to emphasis his claim.

Saw championship highlights last night and Bradley Dack did exactly what you don’t like in order to get his man sent off..

I love footy but hate this cheating business, it ruins the game, even more than Gavin Ward did

Yep. Threw his arms in the air, looked at the ref, looked at the linesman. Definite appeal.

Their antics, coupled with the ref, meant that I would probably have celebrated a late equaliser more than I would a winner at Bolton I was getting that p***** off.

Totally agree. It was very frustrating that they were clearly getting away with so much.

It’s time the FA bring in a rule that says ‘only the Captain can talk with the ref’. All the hassling of the ref is there for only 2 reasons – intimidation and swaying the refs decision.

And i agree with you Jimmy! I’m not sure it was a ‘nailed on’ obvious scoring opportunity. From where i was sitting he would have to have been a lot better footballer than he demonstrated yesterday for it to have been even 80% chance of going in.

We’d be moaning like fcuk if we hadn’t got a pen for a similar Naismith incident! Pen all day long. Naismith knew what he was doing and cost us at least a point today in my humble opinion!

                          But it wasn’t a pen?

In today’s game it was a foul, but not a sending off imo.

Agree Naismith had to go but the spineless ref should have given Wilson a second yellow for diving. See he learned his skill at Liverpool. Shame when you are such a good energetjic player to still want to revert to cheating.
Our cart horse Sam needs to sort his temper out too or we’ll be losing him again soon. Theres heart on the sleeve and stupid and sometimes he his closer to the stupid.
Tom Huddlestone too, good strong player but guilty over and again of cheating and gamesmanship.

The so called dive by Wilson was a slip and to be fair to him he tried to scramble back to his feet and didn’t appeal for a pen! That’s how I saw it!
