I believe Sir Alex likes a glass of red wine, but is he really addicted to it?

He’s not a candidate for manager in my eyes.

But then, I haven’t been out on the town with him. Others may know him better.

    My point exactly.

One player I think should have been considered for this team could be Stan Bowles, I thought he was class, if he was good as some of the others I am not sure but you could include him instead of Maradonna to make it a British XI.

If anyone doubts Bowles level of addiction to be included I would point anyone to the stories about him sitting in the pubs near Loftus Road until 20 before kick off on match days watching the racing on TV while drinking Whiskey, add this to his serial Alcohol abuse, womanising and gambling and he certainly meets griffs criteria.

Yeah, but does he though? When we first started to talk about this last week, we were considering people who had a really serious problem that ended up in treatment or rehab or even death! By that yardstick, wasn’t Stan Bowles just a bit of a lad, compared to come of the others? A bit like SAF, who undoubtedly likes a glass of wine, I don’t think anybody would really put him up there with Cloughy or even Kendal*.

It’s not a bad shout though, perhaps he’d make the bench. ;)

      * which is exactly what I was saying in response to Edinburgh’s post earlier but he was too busy throwing his toys out of the pram to realise that.

No, it is you this time that has spectacularly missed the point. It was not the fact that you dismissed AF as a potential manager in your little team but the manner in which you did so. Barnsley, you remind me of the time AF stood by Keane after he had admitted that he had deliberately gone out to injure that Haagland fella.

Apart from a quite ridiculous suggestion of Alex Ferguson, nobody has managed to come up with anyone that we hadn’t already considered. However, I should probably have pointed out that selection for the team was based on a vague formula comprising a combination of quality of player and level/notoriety of alleged addictedness.

      Shakes head and walks away.

Do you ever wonder why people turn away from this site.
Spot on observation there edinburghlatic. Maybe his closing line should have read: Right this is our defining team, don’t bother with adding to it as we’ve made our mind up that there can be no changes because I/we know best for everbody. After all it’s only a bit of fun, my fun. And he was doing ok for a couple of days as well. Leopard and spots comes to mind.
Surely edinburghlatic doesn’t think that his proposal of Alex Ferguson was one of his better contributions. I don’t know why he should be upset.

This was set up as a light-hearted thread. griff may not suffer fools gladly but, itwasbackintheday, I can’t see why you’ve chosen this occasion to criticise him.

I’m not sure which villain you think I’m defending, Roy Keane, Sir Alex or griff. I certainly wouldn’t argue with Roy Keane.

So yet another thread ends in tears. I’m going back to Bottom Four Bob – the company is more tolerant over there.

Surely Ryan Giggs should make the line up ?

We’re not just talking about bad behaviour. There are countless examples of that from footballers. I think that quite a number of footballers share his interest.

For example, in 2000, Frank Lampard, Rio Ferdinand and Kieron Dyer appeared on a sex video filmed in Ayia Napa in Cyprus.

More seriously, several footballers have been arrested for rape, and some have been convicted.

Ryan Gigs went to a shrink to help him with a sex addiction, addiction being the operative word here !

Yes – although that was in an attempt to save his marriage. I’m still not sure that he was any worse than many others.

Perhaps griff will give him a place on the bench. It’s a pity he chose not to play for England.

I remember Alf Ramsey telling Rodney Marsh that if he didn’t play well for England, he would pull him off at half time. Rodney Marsh replied that at Manchester City they were only given an orange.

Edit; I should add that I have never been invited for a night out on the town with Ryan Giggs or, indeed, any other professional footballer.

Stan Collymore must be another candidate. He admitted many of his failings in a Channel Five television show Confessions of a Premiership Footballer and in his autobiography Tackling My Demons.

He revealed details about the lack of discipline at Liverpool, the Spice Boys’ hedonistic sexual romps with women, threesomes in hotel rooms, and the problems they all faced, stressing his sexual addiction.

In 2004, Collymore was accused of taking part in dogging at Cannock Chase by an undercover News of the World reporter.

He now provides expert analysis on talkSPORT. Whatever happened to the News of the World?

He now provides ‘expert’ analysis on talkSPORT.

I have put some inverted commas in the above sentence, I am sure you just forgot to add them Barnsley.

            #128286

Well, it was meant to be ironic.

But he is an expert on some aspects of a footballer’s life! And there have been further incidents of violence against women.

I’m not sure that these make him an appropriate choice as the host of a football programme.

I think I’ll stick to Radio Five Live. Did you hear Garry Richardson – the presenter of Sports Week – singing with a big band?

Contrary to what you might think, there are a fair few people who frequent this forum whose opinion I value/respect/take note of.

You most certainly aren’t one of them, so save yourself the effort of trying to give me the benefit of your ‘wisdom’. You really are wasting your time.

“give the benefit of my wisdom?” i wouldn’t give you the steam off my cack lad. And “contrary to what you might think” – how the hell do you know what i think, there’s arrogance for you.

Wasting my time? that much that you can’t let it go and keep having to have a go. Look just leave it will you, admit your faults, admit you are not always right, admit it is only your opinion and that other have theirs (even if they differ from you) and watch that weight; stress it’s the silent killer you know.
