If we hadn’t created any chances and been played off the park then I could agree with that Brownbill, but we have been the better side in all games. Charlton was probably the worst of the three but we still hit the woodwork and forced a few saves. Shrewsbury we missed 2 sitters and hit the woodwork twice and on Saturday their Keeper made a few saves and again we missed a few we should have done better with. How would having an extra player on up front have affected any of that forgetting that we may not have had said dominance with less midfield presence?
16 January 2018 at 10:05 pm #165130I think Dereck is just saying we should have been a little more cavalier in possibly the last twenty five minutes or so when it looked like we were heading for another nil-nil.
Problem is on the bench there are no match changers anyway so there isn’t much more we could do but go like for like. We haven’t got a big striker to bring on to cause defences problems in the air or to lay off crosses to Grigg and neither had we a pacey midfielder for counter attacks. The squad is built around how Paul Cook interprets how the game should be played and as others have said it’s pretty much working most of the time and will again at Plymouth on Saturday and even tomorrow night in the cup.So how would you have gone “more cavalier” then?
Did I not just say that with the side we had out and what we had on the bench it would be virtually impossible to have played with a more cavalier approach. At the end of the day on Saturday it was probably players underperforming that let us down namely Massey and Powell and apart from his occasional runs Jacobs. The crosses and passes into the box were poor too.
There were loadsa good crosses and passes into the box ……… there just wasn’t anyone there to do anything with them.

To be fair, there were many more piss poor crosses that never even made it into the box or flew over the incoming players, but like egg said, we were by far the better team in each of those three matches, we just need to be more ruthless in front of goal at home.

Cut out a few passes and get it forward a little quicker. Get your centre mid closer to your lone striker to support. Pace can be just as effective as personnel changes.

Correct, and I fully agree we need more pace at times but most complaints are that we don’t have 2 up top.
17 January 2018 at 1:33 am #165138Thank our lucky stars we have one up top with Grigg. With Toney it was like giving the opposition an extra defender!!

It does appear Stu that more and more teams are reverting back to 4-4-2 mid game. It seems to be a growing trend to change formation at some point of a game.
17 January 2018 at 10:40 am #165144Looks more like 4-2-3-1 to me. 10-0-0 to defend corners.
17 January 2018 at 12:21 pm #165145451 in defence and 433 in attack. Pretty clear really.
17 January 2018 at 1:08 pm #165146As long as we win tonight what’s it matter.

17 January 2018 at 5:56 pm #165148I was frustrated when cook swapped grigg for vaughan. I was actually expecting him to take a midfielder off & play 2 up front & go for it.
