I’ve been in work. Was it really that bad???

    I’m a happy clapper. A light sider.
In answer to your question “yes, it was”
No hiding today. We were dire.
Whether we judge what is to be done on one absolutely awful performance when we compare against last week when we were by far the betther team and should have won, is a moot point.
    But today we were woeful.[/quote]

We were indeed the better team last week. We should have also got something from bristol & Derby. Ive been accused of being a happy Clapper as well. But at the end of the day it is a results business & managers are judged on their results.

I’m not defending Cook but out of all these top clubs we’ve played Brentford were one of the best sides so far to visit the DW. It’s not often see a side play 5-0-5 because that’s how they shaped when going forward and 5-5-0 when defending.
      As for us ?,
Jacob’s left Robinson exposed by going on walkabout, Lowe all over the shop, in the end I’m wasn’t sure were he was meant to be playing, and midfielders 2nd to everything and they were all dispossessed seconds after receiving the ball.

Do we have a poor side ? No, is Cook a bad manager ? No its just a League too high, horses for courses. The players and the manager are singing off different hyme sheets like oil and water, they simply don’t go together. And the juries back in with the verdict on Moore, he’s is simply not good enough his stats don’t lie. The only way Moore was gonna work their keeper today was if Moore spiked their keepers bottle with Senokot.

For me the players have no game plan and I’m not sure why Pilkington is fit but still on the bench. It’s time to make the change. This will give a new manager time between now and the January window to assess and change accordingly.
It’s not losing that bothers me it’s how. Go down fighting and lose I can live with. I’m totally p1ssed off saying it, we don’t have that one skillfull ball playing type player, someone to pass and boss the middle.

I’ve said it before, were all about bombing it around for 90 minutes but when we don’t work hard were fcuked well and truly and today was exactly what happened. And when the home form faulters were double fcukered.

The thing is though, George, we have played well.. and still lost. Today we played bloomin awful…and lost.

Weirdly, I said before the game it would be interesting to see what would happen if we suffer a heavy defeat, something like 4 or 5 nil. It wasnt far off. And in all honesty, with all due respect, I didn’t think it was going to be Brentford that did it to us.

But a 3 nil defeat at home with the run we are on, any other club he would definitely be gone. Lets see.

I would like to point out, I wish Cook could find an answer because as a person he comes across very honest and down to earth.
I’m not sure how he will achieve this with the current crop of players and his current style of play. He would need to completely overal his training methods and team selection and formation something I think he will find nigh impossible to do.
I also think we’ve made some terrible transfers over the past 2 years and some very strange ones which proves something isn’t right.
I still hark back to Powell, if the chippy mon had of sold him for £8-£10million Things might be different. I’m sure DW would have flown him to wherever in his chopper in the blink of an eye.
Tin hat goes on but it’s time to drop Moore and I would put Lowe up front but only if we’ve got width and Geldhart to boot.
If we stick with Cook and the current style of play I’m afraid were down and to the people who said “League One is our level”, you are a joke. I’ve seen League One football and if you think that’s entertaining you need get in at specsavers or is it the attraction of watered down bovril that brings back Springfield Park memories,

The difference then was, we picked players up from non league, such as Phil Daley, who was magnificent for us and had something to prove. Probably really grateful to have the opportunity of league football. Don Page was another, Ray Woods, etc etc. We had hungry players. Ok, none were potential world beaters, but they were on £200pw if they were lucky. As late as 1994/95 we had Andy Lyons, who scored a few for us and also worked as a postman.

My lad reckons Gelherdt drives a Mercedes. I don’t know how true this is, and not picking on the kid, but that would just show you how things have changed at this club. I remember Alex Cribley and his old beat up Ford Escort when he was physio. I remember the 3 amigos sharing a Mondeo. Ian Kilford was a bit more daring. He drove a Vauxhall Tigra! Gavin Johnson drove a Probe. Manager Graham Barrow drove a yellow Merc on JJB company plates…which became John Deehan’s club car.

We werent great back at Springfield, but we could understand our limitations. But these lot are on ten grand a week, maybe more some of them. They arent worthy of it.

Gelhardt is on the first run of the ladder. His footballing ambition will be burning and I’m sure Wigan Athletic and a Merc is nothing more than the first run on the ladder all being well.

I’m more concerned about Cooks tactics, his team selection and the inability to see a game out.
Funny but I dont frown on Brentford game I look at the the Derby and the Bristol City games as been far worse results.
Its sods law that our next 2 games are away and against 2 sides with new managers. Both clubs since sacking have won. I’m sure our new owners will be taking note of this if we come back with jack all.

Sorry, but read his comments in this.

                He is a shithouse.

Turning the reaction of the fans back onto us by claiming people think we can just “steam roll the opposition in this league”.
Nothing of the sort. We know its a tough league, but an abject 3 nil home defeat is an abject 3 nil home defeat, at whatever level.
And using the excuse that we have previously struggled in this division…sorry, but thats piss poor and is clutching at desperate straws.

                Have a read…

There are plenty of people on social media that seem to think that Vat. Plenty of posts every week how we should be beating sides like a, b and c.

I read plenty as well about him being a Liverpool fan. What has that got to do with anything?

He would be perfect and would kick some arses. Wouldnt take any crap, thats for sure.

Look, if we dont get him, one of our relegation rivals will

Its nothing to do with our club, being honest. But I dont think he has helped himself at times during his tenure with us. As a manager, drinking pints at fans forums and things…dare I say it wasnt something most managers would do? It would be water or a soft drink. He has tried to come across as ‘one of the lads’, which is great when you are winning, but not so great when you are struggling. People then use these things to have a pop. Thats just society.

Yeah I can see that but like you say, in League One it was great now its not.

As for Warnock, I just don’t believe we can realistically afford him.

I couldn’t care less about him being a Liverpool fan, as a born and bred scouser why wouldn’t he have a lifelong affinity for either Liverpool or Everton.

Egg….. reading and posting on this board for several years, I think we are broadly in accord on most things Latics, but Cooks petulant nonsense about supporters expecting to ‘steamroller the opposition’ ….Good God, based on the greater majority of the last 50 odd matches how on Earth could any of us dare to dream of that ??
He’s floundering badly now and his inane ramblings are symptomatic of his current performance as a manager. I’m tired of people intimating (as he now seems to be) that we are damn lucky to be rubbing shoulders with the huge clubs in this Division (many of whom we have been outperforming for much of the last 15 or 20 years.). If that’s what he truly believes then he needs to be somewhere else.
Is our budget that much smaller (or indeed any smaller) than those of Brentford or Preston, Hull City or even Charlton or Birmingham currently ?

I haven’t wanted to see him out up to the last month or so but I genuinely think he’s done now…

We know how ‘big’ Leeds Utd, Nottingham Forest , Sheffield Wed and the like are , or potentially are …but slow steady, relatively inexpensive recruitment allied to shrewd management have allowed both PNE and Brentford gradual progress through this ‘Land of the Giants’ and That’s all I hope for, not steamrolling the opposition.

If he turns it round I’d genuinely be pleased for him, as well as myself and the club…… but it’s all starting to look beyond him

Id definitely try for him and big up the new academy as a selling point along with the ‘project’ of the owners. Ideally, Id love him to bring in Stuart McCall as his assistant and maybe Chris Morgan as a defensive coach, learning the defenders how to actually defend. I’ve met McCall and honestly, he is a really good bloke, and a great football man.
