Tonight is a night to be proud of the boys achieving the season’s goal.

There will be inquests into why the away form was so awful, questions asked (probably not answered) about selection and tactics, about the sale of Willy Grigg etc, but tonight is not the night to be at each other’s throats, tonight is a night to be proud of our club, proud to have proved the critics wrong yet again, proud to be the Latics

Always have been proud Leyland because they have always given us reason to be proud at some stages. The rollercoaster may just be starting to climb once more.

Its got to he said, some supporters on here should bow their heads in shame when they look back at their posts this season.
We all deserve an opinion but the pure vitriol directed at Paul Cook and the players at times has been ridiculous to say the least.
Having been struck by injuries to literally the full forward line for most of the season and to throw away point after point due to individual errors, its been a hard season for the club. Despite that they have achieved their goal and retained championship status with points to spare. We have NEVER been in the bottom 3.
So please let this be a lesson to some supporters you know who you are, by all means have a go when things are not going for us, but understand it just doesnt do any good coming on here with the hatred demonstrated by you at 5pm every time we lose.
Paul Cook and his backroom staff are rookies at this level, with the injury situation on top, he has had a baptism of fire, but to his credit he has achieved his pre-season goal, with 2 games to spare.
Let’s sit back and enjoy the last 2 games, have a relaxing break and come back fully charged to get behind our team, whoever is in charge or whoever is on the pitch.
Well done Paul Cook, well done the players and well done to all those supporters who stuck behind the lads despite that horrendous away record.

Utter bollocks, I like alot on here will moaned like fook when we play like tossers and the manager hasn’t a clue and putting up with players who didn’t give a flying fcuk about us.
I will also praise them for getting 7 points out of 9 and keeping us up.
Hang our heads in shame ?? pmsl. By the sounds of it happy tamazzy clapper you need to get down the training ground about 2ish and give Cook a soapy wet one then nosh the team off cause most won’t be here next season.[/quote]

      WTF was all that about?

      From Matlock to ManU
      What a journey!

Brownbill you must feel a right ….. Stayed up comfortably having never been in bottom 3 all season. Couple of great performances against top two with Leon Clarke quality last few games. You might have noticed Grigg is on bench for Sunderland as their promotion dream lies in tatters whilst we’ve banked a few million. Hats off to Cook and the fans who have stood by him. You’ve been a disgrace on here the last month.

Calm down lad. We’ve played some absolute shite this season with shite team selection, tactics and performances. Just chill now it’s ok we are safe now.

Calm down donny, & the rest. Cook has come good at the right time. Yes! He has made mistakes this season, & by God, some huge ones. Plus the injuries we suffered at a time when we were flying (tin hat on). But he surely will have learned as this season has gone on. I say well done to the board for sticking by him. He now has a seasons experience at championship level. Let’s see how much money the board will give us next season, plus these wonderkids we have, & I really fancy us for a top half finish next season.

I actually think we’ve played some good stuff this season, mostly at home. We’ve also learned to mix it and win ugly, yeah, mostly at home. All this has come with only a tiny amount of financial investment compared to most of the other clubs and constant injuries and suspensions. A lot of the players have noticeably improved their game and physicality, notably Naismith and Robinson so there must be some coaching going on behind the scenes.
A little luck and a bit more steel away from home and we’d be well up the table.
              And still grumbling

              Bloody rubbish Wiggin!

Home form excellent. One thing that has to change is giving away leads. We have thrown away 26 points from winning positions.

Cook made a lot of mistakes away from home this season, but I am 100% confident he will have learned from these mistakes.

Given his transfer budget & the injuries we sustained earlier in the season, cook has done a totally awesome job IMO & he will be far better equipped next season. I’m looking forward to it already.

I remember the greatest escape probably in the history of the top flight league in 2011/12. After the final game I and many others were hoping for a start to match the last run in the following season. We went worse and were relegated. Next season will have to see a marked improvement to progress.

And yet whenever someone has said we will stay up you have been very aggressive in telling them they are wrong and we will go down, yet here we are safe with two games to play. As for posting in real time….we never hear from you (and the other doom and gloom posters) when we win but the second we go a goal down you’re on here quicker than a fly on a piece of dog turd as Friday showed. Posting away at 1 nil and then you vanished when we pulled the result back. I’m actually surprised to see you posting now we are safe if I’m honest.

Those who expected anything other than a scrap to survive are living in cloud cuckoo land. You started the season with a squad who had largely yo-yo’d between the Championship and League One. You added a couple of players and all of a sudden you are going to be challenging at the top of the league? Get real!

The objective this season was survival. If that happens with a few games to spare, then great, and if that happens like it did against West Ham or Sheff Utd, then great. Either way, until this cycle of promotion/relegation is broken, then no progress can be made.

Cycle now broken, and you start next season with at least three teams worse than you (ie those who are coming up). Next season’s objective has to be a finish higher up the league than this season, or safety with 5-10 games to spare. If the owners don’t think Cook is the man to do that, now is the time to part company. That said, its not just co-incidence that the first time in three attempts that you stick with a manager in this division for the entire season results in survival.
