Leeds loss would still have seen us 5 points clear! Seem to remember last time we were in this league the team at the bottom had less points than anyone this season. Still. Let’s not give any praise to the team or Manager.

Great post Nuneaton……Rotherham zero budget and Bolton myriad of off field problems compounding their on field results. Ipswich a surprise to me so of course I’m thrilled not to have to watch us in league 1 but I will not buy into the mission accomplished bull. Way too close for comfort and as you stated did Cook really show he’d learned anything from our away run…5 games in ,8,10,15 etc ???. 3 great results pulled us out the fire and no one will convince me the owners are happy with that. This squad needs a full overhaul if history is not going to be repeated.

History being repeated would have seen us go down. We haven’t and with games to spare.

Good job as poor as we have been that we have taken 10 points off the current top 6 isn’t it.

Latics have spent 6 seasons in the championship when this one ends which is nothing compared to most of the other clubs. We know nothing about the championship, Jon Snow knows more about the championship than we do.
So how the hell people can go ranting “its not good enough” “we’ve served up shite” and so on is beyond me.
If Cookie had a budget of millions like Coyle and Rosler then fair enough, but he didn’t. We signed Clarke, Fox and Olsson because they cost nowt not for their youthfulness and they did the job.
We won’t have much to spend next season either but if we stick together and bring on the kids we could be some team on the quiet.

          Up the Cooking Tics!

              Rotherham zero budget

Rotherham’s turnover for 17/18 was just under £10m and they made a loss of £510,000. Latics turned over £6.7m and lost £7.7m. I would suggest with those types of figures, neither would have had a huge budget for this year, and would be looking to finish above three other sides. Ipswich’s implosion and Bolton’s dire financial situation made that task a little easier.

This squad needs a full overhaul if history is not going to be repeated.

No it doesn’t. The squad has proved it is capable of surviving, albeit only just. Remember, three worse sides will be joining the Championship next season who will need full overhauls. Those already there need two or three better players in order to improve. Not signing anyone or flogging your best assets will result in a relegation scrap. I think everyone agrees there.

First manager in years to survive in Championship with no parachute payments.

Are you utterly thick as pig s**t??? As bigroy states, the man kept us up. THAT WAS THE AIM FOR THIS SEASON!! How many times do you have to be told this.

In his first season as a championship manager, cook did get a lot of things wrong. This season has been a learning curve for him. If he does have anything about him he will have learned from his mistakes to take us further forward next season. However, he has achieved something that our previous championship managers have failed to do & that is to remain in this league. Job done! Mission accomplished & so on & so on.

But if I may, would you mind sharing what exactly your expectations of Wigan Athletic actually are.

With a cabinet full of silverware from our all conquering youth teams, I know their not playing much, but looking very good all the same, we would be mad to change the manager.
There’s no way Cook is going anywhere anytime soon.

Captain Cook has sailed the storm, he’ll sail a few more yet with us. I’m on board and will be manning the ropes (in my own special way), I because the horizon is bright and that’s where we’re heading!

Who else is on the good ship Mighty Latics?

Been on it 50 years and rode the waves come through the storms and witnessed all the treasures collected. I was all for Captain Cook walking the plank but he has redeemed himself and indeed the future is looking good. Cannot wait for the next voyage.

I’ll join you Edwards. Been on this boat for 40 years now, 10 years short of nuneaton, but I too have experienced my fair share of storms & the treasures we have earned. Looking forward to the next voyage myself.
