Nevertheless, I used to look forward to matches when Bob was in charge.

I dreaded them whilst Coyle was here.

After 40 odd years of watching the Latics I nearly jacked it all in the season before last.
Last season was atrocious in my opinion, but the FA Cup kept me going with the false hope that the Cup style would be adopted in the League.

We’ve seen some shit recently, but it hasn’t bored me like the last few seasons in the PL.
Hopefully Uwe Roslers style will be a bit more palatable and we can all start enjoying our football again.

So he went to Utd and won. Big fkin deal. If the Barcodes can go to OT and win, anyone can. Whipping boys of the Prem Utd at the mo ;)

And he then goes to the Emirates and draws – wow wee. Not like we never won there is it?

The Evertonians that I know worshipped Moyes just 12 months ago and used to bait me about Bob and Wigan…and are now worshipping Bob, laughing at Moyes and hoping he gets sacked. And what exactly did he do wrong? 4 years of underachievement? No. Relegation? No. No silverware? No.

I have no problem in recognising that Bob has proved that his philosophy – with the right resources – can deliver results. Christ he he gave us s glimpse for 10 or so games. But without the long term resources of the really big teams that will also run out of steam for Everton at some point.

Doesn’t change the fact that he left us in the shit – cup or no cup – and that he was the catalyst for the recent mess we’ve been through. And that’s coming from someone who’s rather enjoying being out of the Prem circus.

Spot on galactic, you’re on the right planet !

Bobby’s back in town all you haters go and show your selves up he’s at the life center today

Three people closely associated with Wigan Borough’s most memorable moments of 2013 will have their names immortalised in Wigan town centre.

Dave Whelan, Roberto Martinez and Ian Lenagan will be present as stars in their honour are unveiled on Monday 9 December outside Wigan Life Centre.

It will be part of a special afternoon of events to celebrate Wigan Borough’s spectacular success during the last year. The day will include a unique opportunity for the public to see the four major trophies the borough’s sporting teams have won in 2013.

The new stars will be added to Wigan’s own Hollywood-style “walk of the stars”, which is on the piazza outside the Life Centre – the new multi-million pound home of Wigan Council’s public services. Six other notable local personalities have already received stars – including rugby legend Shaun Edwards, broadcaster Stuart Maconie and heart specialist Dr Nayyar Naqvi.

Dave Whelan, who is already an Honorary Freeman of Wigan Borough, is awarded a star for his contribution to sport and youth projects in the borough. Mr Whelan is the owner and chairman of Wigan Athletic, who have enjoyed an historic 12 months that’s included victory in the FA Cup final and an exciting run in the Europa League. He was also heavily involved in the opening of the Wigan Youth Zone. The multi-million pound facility was opened by the Prime Minister in June and has been described as the best example of its kind in Europe.

Former Wigan Athletic player and manager Roberto Martinez gets a star for leading the team to FA Cup success. The one-nil win over Manchester City at Wembley was the club’s greatest ever achievement and propelled the Latics into a European competition for the first time.

Ian Lenagan, the chair and owner of Wigan Warriors, is awarded a star for his contribution to sport and youth training. The businessman and entrepreneur has led the Warriors to their most successful season in years, which has seen them dominate domestic rugby league by claiming the Challenge Cup and the Super League title. He also runs a successful training company based in the borough.

The three stars will be unveiled during a special ceremony led by the Leader of Wigan Council Lord Peter Smith. Lord Smith said: “I’m delighted we’re honouring Dave, Ian and Roberto with stars. These three individuals have each made an enormous contribution to successes of the last 12 months.

“Dave Whelan was instrument al in the construction of the Wigan Youth Zone, a truly magnificent facility for our young people, while he also played a huge part in Wigan Athletic’s wonderful season. Roberto Martinez led the Latics to FA Cup victory – an outstanding achievement. Ian Lenagan has brought stability and success to Wigan Warriors. His leadership has seen the club enjoy its most successful season in years. They are each deserving of special recognition.”

In addition to the stars unveiling, other groups and individuals based in the borough who have enjoyed success in 2013 will be recognised during the ceremony at Wigan Town Hall – including Leigh Centurions who won the Northern Rail Cup.

The public will then be able to see all the trophies won by the borough’s sporting teams at an event following the ceremony. The FA Cup, the Challenge Cup, the Super League trophy and the Northern Rail Cup will be on show in the Grand Arcade Shopping Centre from 4pm.

Lord Smith said: “This has been a year to remember and proved Wigan Borough is a place to be proud of. I’ve been involved in local government in the area for 30 years and can’t recall a more memorable 12 months. We couldn’t let it pass without a celebration in honour of such remarkable achievements.

“We wanted to give the people of the borough the unique opportunity to see all four major trophies together. I’m sure the Grand Arcade will be packed with fans eager to see this glittering collection of silverware.”

Aside from the major sporting triumphs, the highlights of the last year in Wigan include more than 32,000 people attending the two Rugby League World Cup games the borough hosted and two thousand people taking part in the inaugural Wigan 10k run. The Wigan Youth Zone and the University Technical College opened while Wigan and Leigh College begun its own ambitious transformation.

The multi-million pound restoration of the historic Mesnes Park was completed and Wigan Borough in Bloom was awarded a record 26 prizes by the Royal Horticultural Society’s judges. A £60million private scheme to transform Wigan town centre has also just been unveiled. And people with local connections, including David Lynn, Hayley Jones, Owen Farrell, Joel Tomkins and Jack Topping, have all enjoyed hugely successful years.

Donna Hall, chief executive of Wigan Council, said: “Everyone from Sports Personality of the Year to Songs of Praise has rushed to mark Wigan’s successes. This past year has proved the borough is a place to believe in.

“I’m obviously proud of the council’s own achievements during 2013, particularly in such a tough financial climate and with significant cuts to our budget. Despite the challenges, thanks to careful money management and financial planning we’ve been able to open a new relief road at the Saddle Junction that’s cut journey times for thousands of commuters.

“We’ve also hosted another record-breaking Business Expo, launched a £2million Community Investment Fund, opened a new multi-million pound depot that has cut costs significantly and launched our “Believe” campaign that’s attracted national and international attention.”

And he then goes to the Emirates and draws – wow wee. Not like we never won there is it?

That’s right. And who was our manager when we did this?

The Evertonians that I know worshipped Moyes just 12 months ago and used to bait me about Bob and Wigan…and are now worshipping Bob, laughing at Moyes and hoping he gets sacked.

Funny that. It’s not as if there are Wigan fans who worshipped their manager but who now want him to get the sack at his new club.

Doesn’t change the fact that he left us in the shit – cup or no cup – and that he was the catalyst for the recent mess we’ve been through.

What twaddle. Yes we were relegated at the end of last season, but aside from slashing the wage bill, being in charge when we beat the likes of Man U, City, Arsenal, Chelsea, winning an FA Cup and keeping us up in the Premier League despite having a miniscule budget, what else has he done to leave us in this ‘recent mess’?

He didn’t recommend Coyle and hasn’t aided the opposition teams in beating us this season. The players he signed from us would have gone elsewhere if he hadn’t signed them.

Good luck to him. I hope he does well at Everton to prove all of us who supported him to be right. But that’s as far as my personal interest goes.

Last season was atrocious in my opinion, but the FA Cup kept me going with the false hope that the Cup style would be adopted in the League.

Wigan had the lowest budget in the Premier League. As other teams increased their budgets, Wigan’s was reduced by 25%. Rival clubs had bigger budgets, larger squads and better players, so Roberto had an uphill task. However, he turned down first Villa and then Liverpool to persevere with Wigan and to set up the Academy.

Roberto introduced three at the back in an attempt to squeeze as much as he could from his limited resources. He had the centrebacks and the wingbacks to make it work – if only they remained fit. It did work two seasons ago, and only narrowly failed last season.

I thought it was a brave and fascinating exercise. Yes, the results of the games last season were disappointing. But I don’t think the team would have done any better by reverting to a conventional formation and more direct tactics. I think they would have done worse; other teams were quite simply stronger.

Roberto clearly did not have the resources to do well in two competitions. I wanted him to concentrate on the league. But once we had beaten Everton he was right to play to win the cup. At Arsenal, the odds were stacked heavily against Wigan and that game was a great anticlimax. The players and the fans deserved a better opportunity to celebrate winning the cup.

But I think Roberto did us proud. He has stuck to his principles at Everton and shown that his style can be attractive and successful. Only last game, my neighbour in the Springfield Stand said to me, quite unprompted, “If Roberto came here with Everton, I don’t think that there’s a single fan who wouldn’t welcome him back.” I’m really sorry if that isn’t the case.

It was asking too much of Wigan to win at Arsenal just three days after playing in the Cup Final.

This was a much happier occasion for Roberto. Everton even had more possession than Arsenal. And they achieved a draw without either Fellaini or Baines.

And you accuse everyone else of being obsessed!!
Are you Mutty in disguise, you’re as obsessed with Everton and Bob as Mutty is with attendances.

Horc, but surely he is just providing a counter argument, and responding,to those that initiated the thread. Fair play to him for perseverence, but I personally gave up trying to reason with you all a while back. There’s none so blind as those that won’t see, or whatever the proper quote is.

It’s interesting to see that the posters who were fully behind Roberto during his time with Wigan[me included], talked season after season about giving him time to get the players in position to adopt his style of play, are now [me excluded,] talking about him being a huge success at Everton.

My fellow lightsiders, lets go back to our principles and agree once again that the season doesn’t end in December.

Whilst his team are being lauded for beating Man utd for the first time in eons, for getting something at the Emerites, [sounds familiar doesn’t it?]he actually hasn’t achieved jack shyte yet. In fact Everton were one place higher than they are now, this time last season having played one game more and having 2 points less. Nothing much changed there then, perhaps slight advantage to Martinez.

So lets leave things for the time being and see were they finish. That’s 6th with 7 defeats and 63 points to aim for. He’s started very well even though a few of the games he has smashed and grabbed a win having been second best for most of the game.

For the time being I’m firmly behind Team Rosler and that’s were you’ll find me for the next 4-5 months. :cheer:

And admit that it was ridiculous to christen Martinez as Bottom Four Bob as early as September.

A remarkable conversion and a nice gesture in the season of goodwill.

Mr Whelan has always said that “Roberto is one of the best youmg managers in Europe”.Is it not possible that Martinez is simply proving Mr Whelan right?.

Just let me remind you Barnsley that “I DID NOT FECKIN CHRISTEN MARTINEZ BOTTOM FOUR BOB”, we have gone over this a million times and you still harp on about it. I will admit I want him to fail big style and if he doesn’t beat last season’s 6th place position he will have. Please read the post from the beginning and stop this bottom four Bob malarkey. I never thought in a million years that Everton would finish in the bottom four, but that is based purely on their squad of players, not the tactical nous of RM.

Please pay attention Barnsley. He earned the accolade of BFB whilst in his reign at Wigan. You stupid boy Barnsley.
