Never mind all these debates about Roberto – what are we going to do about the title of the thread which actually should read “If Roberto were still in charge”? Use of past subjunctive is necessary in the phrase.
7 July 2013 at 2:33 am #117439Now Owen is in charge.
It’s time to move on.
7 July 2013 at 3:58 am #117441Besides, Martinez was in a different league to Coyle.
You’re wasting your time. There are people on here who are clearly too thick to understand that.
Martinez never had to substantially increase the number of Championship players in order to cover the needs of a longer campaign.
Coyle’s activity in the transfer market is, by necessity, a totally different game to the one Martinez had to play in the Premier League. He seems to be making a decent fist of it mind, but a comparison between the two on this subject is, indeed, futile.[/quote]
I hope you include yourself in that first statement.
Secondly, (and I wont try to impress anyone with bold – oops, writing) Martinez was never in the Championship and never suffered the same wholesale departure of players from the club. He also never saw any cup run as a part of a longer campaign.
Your only saving grace is your reluctant admission that Coyle’s activity is necessary and he is making a decent fist of it. Hang on, no, that’s a lie, you have no saving graces. Futility is just a look in the mirror.
Listen to Lostock and Blueview, you might learn something, lad

Exactly my point!! Every time you type you show yourself to be a little bit thicker, don’t you? I don’t know who you are son – thank God – but stop it, you’re just making an arse of yourself.
Learn from anyone on this forum? I’ve said it until I’m, blue in the face – the people I respect/like on this forum I know personally and I reserve my discussions with them for when we meet face to face. The rest of you gobshites really don’t matter at all.
7 July 2013 at 3:08 pm #117448It was an achievement for Wigan to be playing in the Premier League, although they undoubtedly found it hard going. I should think we all accept that the main reason was the vast gulf in finances between teams, with Wigan with the least and Manchester City with most.
Martinez was working in very difficult circumstances. Positions in the Premier League table broadly reflect the finances of the individual clubs, and Wigan were inevitably closer to the bottom than the top.
Some fans – however unfairly – are simply taking their frustration out on Martinez now. Well, we’ll never have a season like last season again. I wish the unhappy fans could just gratefully accept the extraordinary cup win and look forward to life in a new environment under a new manager.
If we have a good season and win promotion back to the Premier League – which is by no means assured – the struggle for survival will start all over again.
(My apologies to garswood for the indicative mood.)

No, that’s not a fact. It’s a fiction – it’s something that you’ve made up.
It’s quite important to be able to tell one from the other.
