on the 2nd Jan 2017; then I am going to boycott the cup game with Forest.

After a lifetime of watching the Latics, this one up front nonsense is the most un-exciting football in our entire history.

It makes no difference whatsoever on a teams formation, nor does it matter on whether a team plays with 1, 2, 3, 4 or more strikers. How can 442 magically transform things. We currently have a manager that is playing to avoid defeat as opposed to “going for it” Cue my point at the beginning of my sentence.

      Exactly.
It’s the players who are poor not the system. The system is trying to do the best with the squad we have.
The problem with playing two up front is that it weakens the midfield (the extra striker has to come from somewhere), who then are over-run. It then doesn’t matter how many strikers you have if the ball doesn’t get to them. Midfield is over-run, and the defence is put under pressure.
Our defence does seem to have improved, with everyone seeming to know what their job is – even if they don’t always manage to actually do it.
Joyce needs time to get his own players in who can understand what he wants them to do.

Runcorn, if you play without strikers it allows the opposition to press high up the field snuffing out your plans to play, twin strikers give your opponents something to think about and they have to defend a lot deeper obviously affecting their attacking flair. Attack is always the best form of defense.

I agree with the last bit of your sentence. But it makes no difference whatsoever how many strikers are played. If/when played correctly, the 4231 formation can just be as exciting & attacking as any other. The problem is that at the moment we have a manager who is simply playing to avoid defeat. Lets see what happens in january when he brings in the “wonder”kids from utd.

Who says he is bringing in the Utd wonder kids? Why would any player want to come to a club at the bottom. My prediction is Will Grigg goes and nothing to cheer us up with incomings

How do we know two up top weakens us? Is it because we have been stuck with this shit since Jason Scotland arrived as the lone striker and can’t remember what football was like before this stupid system arrived.
It didn’t do Leicester and Burnley any harm when they pissed this league and the Dingles for a second time.
Blackburn and the Nobbers gave an entertaining and interesting Derby with it last night and many others through the four Leagues play that way. Why not us? Why is it since Scotland arrived we have been brainwashed into thinking this is the right way.
Good post Lostock Hall and a lot more will be following you unless something changes. The club have virtually made sure of getting shut of casual supporters with the ridiculous prices we charge and there will be even less paying on the day if we carry on like we are doing.
We should piss on Newcastle on Wednesday because they won’t be playing with one attacker. Holes in their system everywhere??? No!!! But if we play that way it weakens us!! Shite.

Lostock, Its only loyalty that I am going. Ive packed in going away. I’m not spending good money to have my day ruined. When Joyce realises people come to be entertained You wouldn’t pay to go and watch your favourite band only for them to mime the whole show would you?
Belle Vue on Friday nights from March :)

It’s not so much the question of playing well JR, it’s more to do with the way we play.
Don’t get me wrong I totally understand Joyceys way of thinking on not conceding but at the moment it isn’t working that well even though there is a mass of effort and we may even be playing ok in the kind of way Joycey wants us to play. Yes we have only lost by the odd goal and we did win at Huddersfield but if we played a little bit more positive we wouldn’t be doing any worse and for most fans we would be seen to be having a proper go at it. Again we were very close to getting a well earned point ay Villa but after 90 odd minutes we didn’t and didn’t have one shot on target.
Believe me JR fans like Lostock are true blue and breathe WAFC and for 99% of the time are like yourself and would not even criticise the club so for Lostock and others saying this the tether is very much at the end with how we play the game.

Why do you despair jr? You try making so many fundamental mistakes as Joyce is in your job marrer and see how long you last. You cannot blame fans for being mad and upset. No fan of any club will go knowing the chance of seeing your beloved team win is being drastically reduced by the manager playing lads out of position and ignoring your best strike option. Will Grigg has not become a bad player overnight more likely the fact is that this boring anti-football we have adopted simply doesn’t suit the lad. Like Ali, LHL I have watched this club all my life with pride and fulfilment and its been only the last few years that has been really hard to take. Needless as well coz it has just been down to bad managers. Still fed up and upset.

I think the last few have been tough to take because 8 years in the Prem has led people to believe we are actually a big club. We probably shouldn’t be in this league really once you take away the parachutes and we rely on what income we actually make.
