If you look at horc’s list there are a lot of outs so Gary is also having to build a squad not just a team and maybe that is why he has signed these lads. Some players will be coming here to warm the bench or make up the numbers and in this league we cannot expect to have 24 quality players on the books. As long as come the start of the season we have a good first team then GC can build from that if we are successful.
I would say that a player who was plucked from the SPL whilst at that time the leading goal scorer in that league should be the first name on the team sheet in any League One side! Bought in January when our fate looked pretty much sealed ( Well it did to me! ) and hardly got a run out, so probably bought with a view to being our number one striker in League One, step up to the plate ‘Wee Billy Lad’ !
He’s nigh on 350 first team games under his belt so his injury record can’t be that bad. And he’s had 1 spell on loan in the last 5 years. Almost all his loan spells were years ago. That could suggest he’s matured and turned into proper player.There’s an article from the club regarding Davies and his injuries. They mention something about him having “weak hamstring muscles” forcing him to constantly break down.
They said they tried just about everything in the book at Bolton to get him fit but they couldn’t get to the bottom of his hamstring problem. Nothing showed on MRI scans, no sciatic nerve problem so they hinted it’s more like his physical body shape (weak hamstrings) that’s the root cause of his problems.
He’s 29 years old and in footballing years if cracks start to show in your latter years then it’s very hard to eradicate them players and physio’s and tend to try and just manage the injury as best they can.
Do you not think Bolton would have kept him if he was good for 10-15 goals ?. They couldn’t get him fully and I doubt we will.

Not bothered about McKay but if we are considering getting out of this division, we should not be selling Tavernier and Waghorn. Arguably our best 2 players at present.
But Tez Waghorn Mckay and Tavernier were signed on Championship wages. We will off load any player we can on Championship contracts.

At present they are our ‘star players’ unless anybody wants to argue Perkins and the crock from Bolton have took overClueless inept management caused them not to play and saw Malky get a transfer window for his shite.

To be fair nobody really stood out last season now did they! I thought he was steady and didn’t really do anything wrong when he did play!
How anyone can have a go at a player who played under our inept management, yet won back to back promotions from this division, winning player of the year for one of them and having heaps of praise from the other, is beyond me.
If one player summed up our failings as a club under the last regime(s)it’s Tavernier.
We’ll no doubt sell him, Waghorn and Huws before the season starts but dress it up as the best thing since Apollo 13. Some will probably applaud it!

I don’t think anyone is having a go at Tavernier, merely saying he didn’t stand out when he did play, and at times he certainly wasn’t immune to the West Stand insults that seem to be reserved solely for wingers and fullbacks.
It was probably down to the manager’s tactics, a lack of confidence,he found the Championship too quick, or whatever, because he went on to prove he’s a good League One player.
But he simply wasn’t the saviour of our potential season that some are now claiming with hidsight.
If he’s sold, it’ll more than likely be due to salary demands or maybe he doesn’t want to play for the club after he was dropped and loaned out – and could you blame him?
I wouldn’t blame him or any of the others for not wanting to play for us after their shameful neglect but at the same time we need him and others of that ilk to stay rather than bringing in journeymen footballers and non leaguers.
At the end of the day it comes down to us, who hold their contracts, to say it’s here where’ll you’ll be playing your football, for the greater good of this club.
