Wigan Athletic have signed Northern Ireland international striker Will Grigg from Brentford for an undisclosed fee.
The 24 year old has passed a medical at the DW Stadium and has put pen to paper on a three year deal with Latics, to the delight of manager Gary Caldwell.
“Will is the one we were after, he’s a a goalscorer, that’s what he does and why we’ve signed him,” he said, “there were other clubs in the chase, including from the Championship, but he’s chosen to come to and we are very happy about it.
“He’s a proven goalscorer at League One level, and had a superb season last year on loan with MK Dons so he knows this division and is a real quality addition.
“The squad is beginning to take shape now and there is a great atmosphere in the camp, the addition of Will and Craig Davies last week has added to that because these are players with a track record for scoring.”
Solihull born Grigg began his professional career at Walsall, having signed from non-league Stratford Town in the summer of 2008.
The striker made his debut in the first team by December 2008, and in a five year spell with the Saddlers, he scored 27 goals in 63 league starts and 99 league appearances in total.
In 2013, Grigg made his move away from the Banks’s Stadium to sign for Brentford, the fee being set by a tribunal.
He scored four in 16 starts for the Bees, but found first team football hard to come by, sparking a move to MK Dons last term.
Grigg shone in Sky Bet League One in 2014-15, scoring 20 goals in 31 starts for MK Dons, as well as grabbing a brace at the Stadium MK in their famous 4-0 victory against Manchester United in the Capital One Cup.
The striker becomes Gary Caldwell’s eighth summer signing alongside David Perkins, Richard O’Donnell, Craig Morgan, Donervon Daniels, Max Power, Sanmi Odelusi and Craig Davies.

At last a name I’ll let the little un have on the back of his shirt
Great signing. Probably have to sell Huws, Waghorn, McKay and Tavernier to fund it mind.
14 July 2015 at 7:14 pm #143209Grigg 20 goals last season. How many would he have scored playing the role of loan striker like our strikers have had to do in recent years? Hopefully Gary changes things and gives Grigg some assistance this time around. Who knows he may even play him on a regular basis.

Who knows he may even play him on a regular basis.Grigg usually plays as a lone striker, and both of his most successful seasons came when he played up front by himself.
So if you’re hoping for a nice nostalgic 4-4-2 nxt season, think again!
14 July 2015 at 8:29 pm #143213One thought has just crossed my mind, why would MK not put a bid in for him after doing so well for them?
Too rich? Didn’t fancy him in the championship?14 July 2015 at 8:41 pm #143214One thought has just crossed my mind, why would MK not put a bid in for him after doing so well for them?

Yes, because that’s exactly how football/footballers operate.

What is the point of close season. How the frig is Gary meant to prepare for a season when its change change change. Still time for more to go. I reckon Perch, Huws, McGann and Holt before the end of August. Only ones we will keep on championship salaries will be Cowie and Taylor.

How the hell we are supposed to get promoted with a brand new team of low quality strangers is beyond me.
Caldwell will have to be Superman.

Betvictor is tempting me yet again! 33-1 this time! Might just do a little 10 spot just in case we capitulate bigtime! :) Only 7-1 to win it outright? Will Grigg is favourite at 8-1 to be leading goalscorer, they obviously don’t know that we don’t play our new strikers! :)
21 July 2015 at 2:56 pm #143390Isn’t it time to look at who we have?
Keepers
O’Donnell, NichollsDefenders
Taylor, Perch, Barnett, Pearce, Morgan, Daniels.Midfielders
McCann, Huws, Cowie, Chow, Perkins, Power, OdelusiFowards
McKay, Holt, Davies, GriggAdd to this the youngsters (Robles, Flores etc) and Caldwell has a squad of around 20 players to work with currently.
