Well said vince. Far bigger clubs than ourselves have suffered the same fate as we have. Wolves as a recent example & look at how well they are doing this season.

The club spent 10 million in the transfer market last summer and had a wage bill going into this season of 20 million and an expensive pre season which with dwindling gates and no cup runs has seen a dramatic culling of the type we haven’t seen since the early nineties the last time the club was in serious decline.
Rosler raised expectations to ridiculous levels and increased his own profile to the point where maybe they all got a bit carried away and allowed the purchase of probably the worst set of players ever to walk on a football pitch at Latics.I think a relegation will shake up the club and with no money worries going forward and prudent running of the club we could well start to recover next season or at least steady the ship,it can’t sink any further can it?
the premier league can seriously damage a football club after relegation and we where heading down that slope before they stepped in and said enough is enough and the club is returning to its old self which is the eighties/ early nineties model.
as far as I’m concerned we will be playing league one football next season but bigger clubs than ourselves have suffered this fate and it is what supporting a club is all about no use throwing the toys out and sulking.
maybe the changes we are seeing should have occurred after we were relegated but the FA cup win changed the club forever and at least we will be a much bigger entity in league one than the one that left there in 2003.I don’t blame anyone really it is just how football is and remember it will be only our third ever relegation since we joined the football league in 1978 so we can’t moan that much can we?

The last sentence and the ‘little Wigan’ bullshit is a frustrating view some of our support and club seem to have. It doesn’t help matters.

Can’t say I was too bothered by the other 2 relegations. Both of them were because we weren’t good enough for that particular league. This relegation was avoidable, as we had the players and the squad, simply bad management from the top to the bottom. We still had a chance until the Jan window shut.

That’s why I’ll moan about this relegation and probably the one next year if we’re left with the current mob. I just can’t accept we’re doing enough as a whole club to avoid it.

Oh that’s alright then if bigger clubs have done it.

Wolves are doing alright, they have a lad up front for them, forget his name, scores plenty.

Ok. On paper we should probably not be where we are. Games aren’t played on paper though and we are where we are because we deserve to be.

We could probably get promoted back to the PL and stay there if we splashed the cash on big wages and transfer fees.

Then when the bottom falls out because we can only spend so much and have re-couped none of the fees then we won’t have a club but at least we can say we tried and DW didn’t steal any of our money.

Indeed. Fairplay to you and Kenny Jacket who saw what Francois Keller, Roberto Martinez, Owen Coyle, Dean Saunders, Uwe Rosler, and Ian Holloway couldn’t.

I’m sure if I trawl through historical posts I’ll find the one where you announced to the world about the latent, untapped talent of Dicko being wasted in the reserves. ;)

“Games aren’t played on paper though” Stats may be written on paper but they come from real life events! I reckon you are so acceptable of this debacle because you know deep down that the rugger will benefit from the football’s downfall!

Spot on yep. I can’t wait until the rugby get to kick the football out and are back to being the number 1 club in the town. *evil laugh*

Here it is again! Read it through properly and then tell me that 3.7% means we shouldn’t be surprised at our current plight! 28 seasons of info right here! Again, don’t forget that we don’t have any money problems!

                  http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/football/competitions/championship/10826050/How-often-do-relegated-Premier-League-clubs-bounce-straight-back-from-the-Championship.html

Just to go through this then:

                  76.5% not promoted straight back

65.9% not promoted within two seasons

                  3.7% in league one

                  67.1% in championship

So statistically we are exactly where most teams are after two seasons in that we won’t go back up and we will either be one of the few who drop again or will be exactly where most clubs are in the Championship? Hardly breaking the mould there when you consider that the 3.7% are probably bigger clubs than ourselves.

Let’s put these stats next to harsh realities. We are Wigan Athletic. We don’t have an endless pit of money we can throw at players and we aren’t exactly a big pull for players either. We struggle to fill half our stadium with home fans and are as the saying goes ‘punching above our weight’.

Just because I can look at our situation logically and long term doesn’t mean I’m happy that we’re 23rd and could go down. I’d much rather we were in Chelsea’s position but real life means we never will be no matter how many times I achieve it on Football Manager.

Ask any shareholder the ground is not owned by Wigan Athletic Football Club who pay rent along with Wigan Warriers

Technically correct. It is owned by the Holdings Company that also own WAFC.

Yes because some of our supporters think we are bigger than what we are. As i say far bigger clubs than ourselves have suffered worse fates than what we have. Im not happy where we are in the slightest but we are where we are through poor play, poor signings, poor management choices etc, etc. We might get .back, we might end up like pompey or wimbledon, but i’ll be supporting my team no matter what

Agreed ,What gets me about some of the moaning folk on here was the fact that they were quite happy on the road up the leagues paying as little as £14 a match with decent season ticket prices to boot. Cheapest prices in the Prem league and we still had the logic of sacking a manager when a few results didn’t go to plan.

Ever since relegation and the departure of Bob which I hasten to add many wanted rid of before the FA Cup win the phrase careful what you wish for was applied by the more level headed posters on here. Resulting in the darkside/lightside comparison from Bobbies days.Well that has come to light all to painfully now starting with the Coyle era and onwards from that many may blame DW for the appointsments of course they will but the club survives and needs the support more than ever

Many people want champagne football on Aldi prices

Some folk like the ‘Little Wigan’ tag. Truth is we’re far better than that.

Bigger is a stupid word used about football clubs, I’ve never understood its real meaning, relevance or the arguments it causes.

I won’t be renewing to watch Malky and his band of merry 100%ers but I don’t think that will be an issue after the next 2 games.

See Delort is 1 goal from 1 start after tonight’s game.
