Powell, Jacobs, Grigg (he hasn’t been fit/playing which is why everyone moans about the team every week) and we still don’t have a left back.

Form isn’t like a tap that you switch on and off and in the last 6 we haven’t had a settled side for one reason or another and you can clearly see a lack of confidence amongst the players. We concede a goal and the life just zaps out of them. Part of that is down to Cook yes as it is his job to keep morale up and he is far from perfect we know that but anybody else would struggle with the set of injuries we have had in a divison they are financial minnows in.

Having missed 2 glorious chances at 0-0 and then conceded a soft goal again, he wont have stood there at half time and said “lets concede another inside 3 minutes”. The pressure we put ourselves under can hardly be attributed to Cook.

Thats true, just look at Nob End, an even bigger injury crisis than us and hands totally tied financially were expected to be pushing or in the play-offs but right down there with us.
It definitely takes its toll on us smaller clubs in this league.
Like us Nob End have had and have a load of players out with ham string injuries. Uncanny how many of these injuries there are these days. Training methods maybe or playing on decent pitches all the time, who knows??

North End put together that decent unbeaten run with an injury list as long as your arm as they say! They got a couple of their ‘Star Players’ back and the ship has become somewhat unsettled! “It’s a funny old game” as Greavsie used to say! ;)

I do think that had we kept the same XI that started the season fit and healthy we would be around the top 10 now. Cook has clearly tried to change our style of play to suit what we have and there are times when it works well but we aren’t taking our chances in front of goal and are still conceding soft goals at the back. Christian Walton is a shadow of the player he was last season.

Garner and Windass would look much better in the side that started the season as they would have been getting plenty of service but as it is now they are feeding on scraps and most will struggle with that.

The squad just isn’t good enough. Every club suffers injuries, it’s up to the manager to make sure he has players ready and hungry to come in and fit into the managers style of play.
The problem with Cook is, he’s been changing this game by game to suit players rather than the other way round.
This is the total opposite of the Martinez way were he played a certain way and if you came in you had to adapt to his way whether it’s right or wrong.
What I find strange is, players like Walker, Cole, MacManaman, Lopez, Laing attacking type of players are left in the bench or shipped out without given a run well bar 5 minutes here and there.

Some will say “Well you got to trust the manager” I trusted him when he brought these lot in but lost faith when he got it oh so wrong or they’d be playing.

I think were heading for our usual spring clean. 15 out, 15 in then loan out 10 straight back out.

I just hope Darren Royle and the owners make a the right decision. Whichever road they take they will be saying “What if”.

Without us ripping the squad to shreds in Jan I cannot see us staying up playing the way we are with the players we have.
And the word is, Powell is definatly off. It just a case of which club. That’s about the worse bit of business we’ve ever done turning down a reputed £10milluon

The squad isn’t good enough you’re right but we don’t have the finances that the clubs at this level have. Like many have said before, our 3rd choice striker cost £1m where some clubs at this level spend around £10m on theirs.

Apart from Powell, who we look lose for nothing anyway, we dont really have any other sell on value in the squad. Pretty much the same problem as Bolton, in all honesty. We were stupid for not getting the cash for Powell when we had chance.

And to think people moaned and complained about the likes of Beausejour and Gomez. Look at what we have now…

Its frighrening how our quality of player has fell.

Imagine the meltdowns if that had happened. Including you.

Why? Hes injury prone. Id have snatched their hand off.

Maybe the take over was contingent on getting promotion and Whelan decided that keeping Powell rather than cashing in was worth the gamble.

To add to that, Stoke have just spent £20m on 2 players. £20m isn’t even out budget let alone what we can spend on 2 players.

Is 20 mill a lot of money to IEC how much do they intend to invest?
