Cook must have wanted to offload him in this window, hence the reason why he brought in Dowell. However, that has gone **** up with his injury. I’d like to see Pilks in that position myself. He hasn’t the speed to run up & down wings. But he has decent enough quality & touches to play there. Plus, he will shoot. Cook though will probably play Williams there, who IMO is more of a defensive midfielder.
Jesus Christ Donny lad. We’ve all said that our strikers are crap and we don’t score many goals. We bring in a striker and you moan.We clearly play with wingers because we all moan every week at Massey and Lowe playing. Because they don’t take their man on and blaze a cross into the South/North stand ala Gary Teale doesn’t mean they aren’t wingers.
Windass showed in his few games that he most definitely isn’t a striker which is the position he wants to play and is why he left Rangers. His attitude is apparently poor (probably listens too much to his dad) around the place which is why he has been dropped multiple times so given the fight we are in we need people all pulling in the same direction.
As you say…we needed the defender for cover if nothing else and we still have Robinson lets just hope his head is in the right place.
We have filled the two main spots we needed to, hooefully Dobre is capable of a decent final ball unlike Massey, Lowe and Jacobs. Nobody trusted Cook with any money and we haven’t given him any, and loans seem to be the order of the day in this window, fingers crossed we have got the right people in. I never feel too confident about our business because it never goes the way I expect but at least we’ve addressed the issues.
We have two perfectly good strikers who can score goals but won’t play them together.
There is no way can any of that shit load like Massey Lowe or Jacobs are played as out and out wingers either.
Any striker in the land would struggle with Lowe Massey Jacobs and co.behind them.
Give our own young bloods a go ahead of keeping other clubs youngsters happy.If they can only score goals with someone else holding their hand then modern football probably isn’t for them
Agree with Donny ….2 strikers who both are a handful. Cook will not start them together so the 1 striker reliance on decent service is paramount and no way they’ll get that from the half season tried and failed combination of Massey,Lowe,Jacobs. Strikers aren’t shit.Garner on as sub against Derby,nets….played really well at Swansea until subbed. On as sub against Wednesday and assists winner. Lad can’t score if hes bench warming. Cook chose to play all Christmas without our only striker in favour of Windass so the blame lies squarely with him. Start the pair and give it a go…..but how many times has that happened ?….Stubborn …..and can’t whinge that we don’t score enough . I don’t think any defense in this league would relish playing against those 2…..and time running out to keep persisting with same shit. Not like we have options either.
I’m seeing the points of both Donny & Brownbill here with this one. When I saw Garner coming on the other night, my initial thought was Moore off. But give credit to Cook, he went against his “stubbornness” & played them both together. And how effective did they look? As Brownbill states, it was Garner who provided the assist to enable us to go on & win the game. With an extra striker signed to provide cover, I too feel we could give this a go & play the 2 of them together.
I know earlier I said play Pilks in the CAM position. But scrap that & let’s go for it. Oh! & add in the same fight that the lads showed in the 2nd half the other night, & who knows!!
Playing Christmas period without a striker was foolhardy. Garner will score goals.The one against Derby proved the knack strikers have, taking the half chance that comes out of nothing. They’ve probably been playing that role from childhood so it comes as second nature. I like him , apest to play against and a red card waiting to happen but wouldn’t want to play against him. Also has a decent scoring record for minutes on pitch. Dunkley our top scorer!!!….Say no more.

Then a long ball into the box to a striker who wins it in the air and a great team goal put away well by an unmarked Lowe with a speculative header.
1,2,3 goal.The Wednesday centre backs on Tuesday night were that pre-occupied with marking Moore, they forgot about the power of Garner and left him to their fullback.
Garner is a strong player and gets up well and towered over the full back for the knock down. Lowe did well to utilise the space left in the middle by the two big lads pulling the defence all over the place, and he put his header in well. (he didn’t do a lot for the other 97 minutes, but if he scores every game, I don’t care).
Playing Garner and Moore together would terrify defences in this league and has got to be worth a go.
