Carlisle away in the FA Cup back in 1934. That was a journey. The only way to get there back then was by train. We won 6-1 and I’ve never missed a match since.
Is that score still the record for a non league club away at a league ground. I’m sure it used to be at one time.
Yes and one that will probably never be broken unless we are non league again.22 January 2018 at 12:22 am #165297I don’t understand the problem people have with new fans. At some point we were all new fans to some people and for the club to evolve and be successful we need the next generation of new fans each time. We should welcome them and listen to their opinions rather than think we are better than them or are a more valuable fan with more rights because we happened to have been going for 20, 30, 40 or even 50 years. I love seeing kids there and think it’s great when we get a big crowd in.Thanks dnr, I’ve been a ‘lifelong’ supporter since about August 2007. Before that I didn’t live anywhere near Wigan, Wellington NZ being a bit too far to travel. I went a few times and pretty quickly ‘got hooked’, and loved almost every minute, as well as meeting loadsa great people. 11 years later I’m a ST holder and still live a 2 hour train ride away. I do get a teeeny bit hacked off when I hear criticism of the ‘new arrivals’, so thanks for your welcome and understanding.
22 January 2018 at 1:22 am #165298Well my son is a life long supporter, but you have been going longer than him, some things don’t add up do they!

It was meant to be on my 60th but because they had recently relaid the turf, despite having had 22 boots running around on the pitch for 45 minutes …. goal shoot was postponed. And that is relevant to nothing!!

22 January 2018 at 1:44 am #165301There are some serious ‘new fan’ dislikers on Vital …… what does that say??
22 January 2018 at 1:53 am #165302We know Jason Taylor is, can’t remember seeing the other guy at Springy
As he was at Uni until 1999, then he is a (little!) bit younger than Jay, and probably wasn’t even born when the Latics entered the league. Is that an acceptable excuse for not being at Frickley away in 1976?
Not being funny, but yet how long was he at uni for? You go to Uni when you are about 18 don’t you? What about before he went?
Not that I’m really bothered. Just saying.
22 January 2018 at 2:01 am #165303There are some serious ‘new fan’ dislikers on Vital …… what does that say??And there are some new fans who are on groups on Facebook etc who need taking down a peg or two. One lifelong fan, Derek Tinsley, a lot will know him from when he had the programme hut at Springfield, well he was getting stick and abuse the other day because he said he can no longer afford to go to games. Derek had been a real loyal fan since 1974,and his dad had been groundsman at Springfield Park.
Seeing him getting stick off people who have been going not that long, really cheesed me off, being honest. Not one person knew who he was… If they went at Springfield, they would have done.

Well Goals you will always be welcome in my eyes and well done on your amazing support. Actually well done to anyone who supports our club in any way and from anywhere and for that matter for any amount of time. We need as many fans and supporters as we can muster up.
22 January 2018 at 2:46 am #165307I don’t think the issue is how long he has been a fan but the fact he has said he is a lifelong fan but supported Everton until 2006.
If he didn’t watch the game before then fair enough but dont swap clubs and lie about it.

Stu, I worked with a Liverpool fan years ago who went everywhere home and abroad following them. A Wigan lad but a Liverpool fan. He was at Heysel and swore never to go again. He immediately became a Latics season ticket holder and started following us everywhere and still does I think. As Donny says it doesn’t matter how you got here or why IF YOUR BLUE YOU,LL DO.
22 January 2018 at 12:09 pm #165310Does he claim to be a lifelong fan though? Man and boy and all that.

Don’t fall for what Derek says. He posts on there to wind people up and get a rise.He was saying he can’t afford to go to matches, but a few posts later was saying how he was at the Bournemouth away game.
I’d take what he posts on there with a pinch of salt.
22 January 2018 at 1:48 pm #165313Best one I ever heard was a lad I used to go school with.
Him and his parents watched LATICS. They went to Wembley in 85, he had a fully signed programme as his dad knew Graham Barrow. I remember seeing said lad and his dad, outside Vicarage Road when we played them in FA Cup in 1991.
By the time we met up again and went college in 93/94, he was a cherry and white wearing, rugby league preaching Warriors fan. Totally not interested in LATICS, and doing his best to convert people to Rugby League.
We lost touch after college in 1996, and but in the early to mid 2000’s, I was told he had a season ticket sat in the Kop at Anfield. Lord knows who he supports now… Man City? Who knows.
How can you just swap like that? It seems that when we hit hard times in 92/93 he jumped ship. Weve had a few more like that in recent years.
