I am sure most of us of a certain age supported another club before we got in to the football league. I went to a few games in our first season then more in our second, and by 1980 was going regularly home and away, I was hooked, loved the atmosphere and sometimes the trouble that went with it (watching from a very safe distance). But before the football league days i was a city fan, oh the irony, would be interested to know which teams other latics fans supported, if any, pre football league.

Horc and I definitely didn’t. Just only ever been Latics for us. Same with Lostock. However I totally welcome any new fans, wherever they come from.[/quote]

As I have posted on here many times I was taken to Anfield to watch Liverpool play City my first ever game back in the sixties but never became a fan of either. Shortly after I went along to watch a team from Wigan playing in some non league cup game and became absolutely hooked. Do I regret not becoming a glory hunter do I bollox. I’ve seen more than enough glory from this barmy and brilliant club to last 2 lifetimes. One life One Love One Wigan Athletic.

Similar to myself really. Was a rugby fan from day one as my Dad used to take me to games from 89 onward. Got into football in 92 and my Auntie told me to support United. Went watching Latics a few seasons later and was instantly hooked. Watched Latics on a regular basis with people like JayT and “followed” United almost as my PL team, but when someone told me I could only support one team I instantly said Latics. I wasn’t upset if Utd lost but I was if we lost.

Went to high school in 97 and got a real hatred for armchair fans who would take the piss on a Monday/Wednesday after we had lost (usually a game I had gone to home or away) while celebrating watching Grandstand or Football Focus and Utd winning. Could never give a satisfactory answer apart from “they’re the best” as their reason for supporting Utd. Seen plenty of them hanging around The DW when we made the PL but they have suddenly vanished again.

My first kit was a Wolves kit. No idea why, maybe because I’d liked their badge in my sticker album.
When I was small, Everton were a top side and friends and neighbours tried to get me to support them. I had the Everton kit in 86, because I liked Lineker. But I never went to an Everton game until my Toffees mad school mate had a spare ticket one day in circa 1993. They were playing United so I went. Went a handful of times in mid 90s but never ever felt the connection or passion for them. Z Cars when they ran out was the best bit.

The only club I have ever supported is LATICS. In my time as a supporter, there has been far more good than bad.
