…but one thing for sure is the ranks of those who agree with me is growing day by day.

You may be right, but only because results may continue to be poor not because they disagree with Bob’s style of play.

Most of our fans wouldn’t spot a tactic if it popped out of a little white container stinking of mint.

My main concern is how close things are at the bottom.

All we need is for Zaki to hit the ground running for Hull, and Laws to implement himself at Burnley, and if we continue to lose like last night, we could sink in the mire by mid Feb, going into March. Crucial time of the season. We could really do with winning against Bolton, and getting something off Villa, in the rearranged games. Anything against Liverpool would be a bonus, and the way this season has gone, we’ll probably win……but then lose the next 3!

That Hull game at the seasons end could be a massive game. I just hope we don’t need anything on the last day, at Chelsea. :(

      You said:

‘the football we play is worse than any we have played in the premiership,it is boring and of poor quality…. now they tend to be cross field punts as opposed to the banging it to a target man’

‘Banging it to a target man’ is exciting, good quality football is it? Is this the type of tactic adopted by the Arsenals, Manchester Uniteds and Barcelonas of this world?

You obviously don’t like the ‘cross field punts’, so, if we are ‘banging it to a target man’ I take it you would prefer an ‘up the middle bang’?

As you clearly did not want the ‘Spanish One’ to be appointed (did you refer to Bruce as the ‘English One’?), who would you have appointed? Please name a manager of any note who would have been attracted to the vacancy, and who would have been a better option.

We opted for a young, highly rated manager, who had taken his team from the First Division to just outside the Championship play-offs in consecutive seasons, and who also happened to be an ex-Wigan Athletic ‘legend’. Does this ring any bells?

It sounds very similar to a Scouse bloke who managed us not long back, but unlike Martinez, the ‘Scouse One’ had the benefit of four and a half years additional coaching and management experience under his belt.

Ah, but the ‘Scouse One’ was always partial to a bit of ‘banging’.

Let’s be honest now, joking and antagonisms apart, since we broke up that team we had in the first season, by selling Bullard, and losing Roberts due to being tight……….

we’ve been shyte. :( No, really. Apart from the odd game, or highlight, such as a screamer from Valencia, or the odd moment here or there, it really has been abysmal. And it all boils down to not building on that first season, and the 10th placed finish, and cup final. That was the chance. Whelan should have thrown some cash behind the team then. But he didn’t. He was too bothered about upping the ticket prices by £10 a game, which was a disgrace. I’m glad it failed, because it served the old coot right.

        “Maximum profit….minimum outlay” That’s Whelan.

He’s been playing a dangerous game with us for the past 4 seasons, and he’s been a goal difference away from being found out. Well for me it’s time now for him to put up some money for new signings, as I think if he doesn’t, this might be the season we are made to pay.

And who will get the blame?

Roberto Martinez. Do you think Sky and everyone else will see it as being Whelan’s fault? Managers keep getting sacked and/or slated, not the chairmen.

          Top post Standish…

I don’t get this Whelan slagging off. We buy a player for £1M we sell for £14M…..

lets put it another way, you buy a car for a £1000, you look really good in it but the running costs are killing you. Someone offers you £14,000….do you:

          (a) Keep the car, you do look good in it and you can go really fast but the way your going, you won’t be able to eat because of the running costs (which you are now putting on your credit card and increasing your debt)…are ruining your life

          Or

          (b) You sell the car for a profit, you get a smaller car in the meantime but you are able to feed and cloth yourself and pay off debts….and maintain a good quality life.

Until all of our 76,000 supporters fit into our 76,000 seater stadium then we will continue to dismantle teams and rebuild them whilst trying to stay in the prem…….simples

If you don’t like it, buy a season ticket for Man City next year and get real turn-ons when they spend £30M for a player (who turns out to be shit) but don’t have to sell anyone first…..

No, JimmyCornflake, you can’t fault him for that. You have to snap ‘silly’ offers like that up. I understand that.

But the thing that grates me is, we think we can replace these players with freebies or cheap options. And that’s why we are struggling!

I’ve yet to see what is so special about Hendry Thomas, as I don’t think he’s good enough. “Better than Palacios, this fella” I heard before he arrived. Not in a million years. He’s only marginally better than Koumas.
(or IS he? both w*nk in my opinion)

Should we not have reinvested a few million, say, 5 million of that 14 million for Palacios, on a replacement? “But the money went to paying off debts” I hear you say. What? All of it? Are we struggling to tread water THAT much? Well be are operating above our means, if that’s the case then. And will eventually go only one way.

It’s always a lower league player, a foreigner on a freebie or cheap deal (And I think we’ve used all our luck with Hondurans. We got lucky with Figueroa, who was basically to Palacios, what ‘Semmi’ was to ‘Prince Akeem’ in ‘Coming To America’….his travel companion. He got thrown in, and has done great, really. But we got lucky, there)

How much has Martinez spent, so far? Who has he brought in? Gomez, Scotland, Caldwell, Diame, Stoikovic? Not spent 10 million there. Nowhere near. Shocking really.

I’m not sayong break the bank, but come on! Just a bit more ambition and quality. And bloody stop trying to pay on the drip. If they want 7 million, offer 5 up front, and the rest based on goals scored/appearances.*

*Like I always do on Football Manager.

some good points there VAT but why spend £5M on a player when you “think” you can get a better player for less but is just as good?

Some signings haven’t lived up to expectations, but I can guarantee they haven’t lived up to Bob’s either. He could have bout £5M or £6M players but would it have been different?

This season is a bit of a strange one, there are 10 or 11 teams who are not playing great but pull off a couple of results…I mean, when was the last time the top 4 lost so many games??

Stick by it, I can see improvements from the Wolves at home game up to now – last night for instance, when did we (in any point before the Notts county match) have the ability to come from behind. You used to see players heads drop after the first goal, now there is a bit of fight.

After seeing Figgs last night for their second goal, he looked a bit distressed, one of the guys in the office said that he thought Figgs had a wager on Blackburn winning.

Keep the faith…things are good at the club and how it is run….don’t be deluded by the anti-WAFC brigade

The success of first season in the Premier League wasn’t as a result of the ability of the players, but more down to the ‘unknown quantity’ factor and Bullard etc. creating a ‘Crazy Gang’ mentality in the dressing room.

On paper, that team looked poor, and consisted mainly of misfits, or players at the end of the careers.

Unfortunately, you will never maintain success on novelty factor alone, and the best players in a successful team from a small club soon get cherry-picked.

As JimmyCornflake has correctly posted (good analogy incidentally Jimmy), dismantling the team is the only way this club will survive in the top division. With the spotlight now being well and truly aimed at football club finances, every spare penny for the next season of two will go to eliminating the club’s debt, until it is wiped out, or at least at a manageable level.

So, why spend a large proportion of your limited transfer budget on one stand-out player, when you can spread it evenly and bring in three of four decent players? If you want a prime example of why not to put all your eggs in one basket, look at Hull and what’s happened with Bullard: club talisman and star buy, crocked in his first game, and no time or money to get a replacement in.

Some good stuff but I am confused with part of a message posted by Loudmouth.

martinez has sold one player – cattermole for 6 million – he also let brown leave,he has signed scotland, gomez, diame, amaya, mccarthy, thomas and sinclair on loan(in the summer) ,with exception of thomas all are martinez’s signings

Well LB, did he sign Thomas or not, or are you, like me, confused?

              #20186

The bottom line is that we dont have the cutting edge at the moment, too many silly mistakes and a general lack of confidence across the team. Too many games this season where we could easily have won it, or got a draw.

The fact is that we havent and need to get that cutting edge

How we get it back is the question, more than likely from a run of results and the confidence coming back. Maybe the run of home fictures and defending in the first half would help.

Keep the faith and we will be fine, go down with the ship if it happens, either way we may as well stick with it for the ride. I cant imagine any of the negetive posters on here will take any real joy from saying I told you so, if so then they arent a fan of the club.!

Why is it that after every game it’s always “Martinez’s is awful!” or “Sack him now!” Bobby’s doing a decent job with average players, little funds compared to rivals and the fact that a top club WILL come and steal all our gems in the summer (Hugo, Charlie, Figueroa)

Give him a chance, he’s trying to breed a new style of football here and that takes more than half a season believe it or not. If you want to see long balls and thugs playing football, I suggest you switch your allegiance to one of our north west neighbours (ie Bolton, Blackburn or Stoke)

Embrace change and everything that goes with it.

Judging by the startling reactions of some of our so called fans, you’d have thought that we had lost last nights game 9.1 (now that still hurts) not 2.1 to a side their manager says are improving. Some of them say it’s Whelans fault, if what I have read and the clubs debt has been reduced to a mere 15 million then he has done a decent job. Now quite a few of those so called fans want Martinez to be sacked, as far as I can see we aren’t bottom and miles adrift of other clubs, which is quite possibly where we could be had Bruce stayed with the club, and had started this season, the way we had finished last season under him.

Manchester City have forked out mega millions, signed lots of players WITH PREMIERSHIP EXPERIENCE, who Tevez apart haven’t exactly set the world alight, Martinez signings haven’t had premiership experience, some like Diame and Thomas havent played in England before let alone prem. From what have already seen Diame is a class player who in a few seasons will be one of the best in the prem, the much derided Thomas is a bit rash, but has one of the highest tackle counts in the premiership.

WHETHER YOU PAY 1 MILLION OR 50 MILLION FOR A PLAYER MOST PLAYERS NEED A SEASON OR 2 TO SETTLE INTO A TEAM AND JUSTIFY THE MONEY SPENT. Martinez and his signings need just two special commodities from our genuine fans.

                      1. A little more time
                      2. A lot more patience.
