4 October 2012 at 2:04 am #94535b. In football the play-offs decide 3rd place (a bonus promotion place -if you like).
3rd (or 4th place if your in the 4th division) is not & never has been a “bonus” promotion place. They were an automatic promotion place & designed to reward the 3rd/4th most successful team in the division, just like 2nd place
then it was changed & those teams had to take their chance in a 2 leg or 1 off game against teams who’d finished below them
It’s good to see though that you acknowledge my point that both systems are unfair, so basically I am right!! ;)what’s that faint singing noise i can hear in the background??
4 October 2012 at 2:06 am #94536Oh, and he’s a referee don’t you know, which explains a lot….! ;)And when the hell have I ever mentioned that??

seen them pal, been crying laughing since friday night
even their website bloke is on about jacking in…..he says he’s become disillusioned with the whole game and it’s pointless him turning up to 26 of 27 games per season FOR NOTHING, as it gets sorted via a pathetic playoff system.it’s the 1st time i have agreed with a rugger bugger……………..well 2nd actually behind the egg a few month ago.

Oh, and while I have your attention can you tell me why that red card for Gomez was rescinded, seeing as he clearly went into the challenge with his studs showing, plus the fact that it also involved golden boy Webb who has now been shown to be less competent that we have been led to believe.

I’ve seen it and I can see why people will not shell out for a ST or go to the playoffs. Sport has to compete with everyday life in these tough times, and if something is perceived to not be “sexy” enough (and the current playoff system is about as sexy as Bella Emberg) then it will come lower in the list of priorities than feeding your family.
Similarly, the novelty of Premier League Football seems to have worn off (success being defined as 17th place), which is why your crowds have suffered almost a 20% drop since 2006.

I thought so!!!
I didn’t get to see any of last Saturday’s game so I haven’t seen the challenge & I couldn’t find a clip of it on youtube or anywhere so I don’t know
By itself though, going into a challenge with your studs showing isn’t in itself a sending off offence & isn’t an offence at all – it all depends on the angle your boot comes in at, whether the player is completely off the ground or not.
In all likelihood it will have been Webb himself who viewd the footage again & said he got it wrong. Some ref’s won’t do that5 October 2012 at 4:29 pm #94571lotp has not seen the recent poll on chubbie.com or he has and is totally not bothered to share it with us ,Lot of discontent on the M62 super highway enjoy SDW

Average in 2006 – 20,610 (which included the ‘we’ll only be here one season’ so I’ll go brigade – a much better guage would be the year after, 06/07 – 18,159)
Average in 2012 – 18,663So I will accept that you will of course go for the inflated average in 2005/6 instead of the much more realistic 06/07.
But 20,610 – 18,663 / 20,610 = 9.4%
I feel you have left yourself wide open for how they calculate things in rugby terms!!!!!
If you go off the better guage of 06/07 – there is an increase of around 2.8%.
FA Cup Winners 2013, sounds good that

As the title suggests I am not happy with our game at the moment. I know i will probably get people questioning how I am not a “loyal fan for issues I raise. But I am not going to go on about how many years season tickets’ i have bought or how many people I have brought to the DW commercially.
Other than the essence of being a loyal fan and supporting the club I have lived with, I am trying to decide why should i buy a 2013 season ticket???
As we all know, the salary cap forces who we bring in and get rid of at the club. The Oz cap is so much higher, I believe around 3 times that of the UK SL. I didn’t mind the odd one like Morley when he was in his pomp, but now together with Union, the NRL are taking players that are average or even youngsters. This is because they will earn more playing in the reserve grade in the NRL. Players such as Tom Burgess and this week wigans own Matty Russell.
I saw Chris Ashton, Joel Tomkins, Owen Farrell etc. And couldn’t help thinking they are Wigan players who should be earning a living in our game. I also think they would be if the money matched up.
I also do not think the salary cap has evened it up. Every cup will be won by us saints, Leeds or wire. We need to get rid of the salary cap and pay players a fair wage.
Due to this cap I believe all teams now have to have a lot of average players in their teams. If you look at Wigans recruitment for 2013.. Matty Smith, Blake Green, possibly Scott Taylor. To replace Tommy Leuluai, Brett Finch and Jeff Lima. With respect to those players there is a gulf in class difference and experience.
Yet still we as fans are expected to pay around the 200 quid mark for a season ticket. Which works out about 16 quid for 13 games. What benefits do season ticket holders have over the occasional fan who comes out for a big game or finals???
Not much in price, maybe 2-3 quid a game. A half price Magic weekend ticket?? I am not really bothered about that. If we reach the cup final at Wembley, all the best tickets go on the rfl website to people who are not at the semi final.
Then there is the fact that the regular season is 27 pre season friendlies. 5 teams at the bottom of the league are at a very poor standard. Even the big games v wire, saints and leeds do not really matter. An 8 team playoff system is ridiculous in a 14 team comp where we can predict the top 7 teams each year. That being the big 4 n Hull and Catalan and Huddersfield.
I have read millions of theories, but I believe a 12 team comp with a top 5 system would be best. Some where in that 1 v 2 and winner is straight in Grand Final. I would also bring back promotion and relegation.
I am writing this as im upset that the game I love has come to this and I know the majority of fans feel the same. This has nothing to do with Wigan not winning a trophy as I have spoke to many fans from other clubs who feel the same.
My last point is to start where i began and ask the question why should any fan fork out 200 quid for a season ticket next year other than loyality. I do not believe you get any worthwhile benefits and I wouldn’t have to sit through us beating a poor team 40-0.
Thoughts???all this from a fan of the team that finished top!!!!!! just shows how much trouble their village game is actually in. They’ve not even sold out old trafford tomorrow for their big day out at a football stadium that we visit for standard league matches
depressing times ahead for the poor mans version of rugger union!
5 October 2012 at 7:54 pm #94581Almost as depressing as you constantly bleating on about it.
5 October 2012 at 9:23 pm #94590shurrup griff, Sirdave knows his onions, I for one will never get sick of hearing how Wigan Athletic have overtook Wigan Worriors in every department.
