There is only one man to take the helm. Only one man could possibly begin to sort out the HUGE mess that has been left now. Wigan Athletic can’t buy their way up next season so the players that are there and will be coming in need motivation. A man who isn’t afraid of what people think or try and dictate to him. That man is Roy Keane. There shouldn’t even be any other name in the frame. If The Latics want to survive then Keane needs appointing and given longevity.

You’ve a good point there Yosser…Roy Keane would be an excellent choice. We can but hope.

Back to reality, we’ve more chance of getting his namesake Steve, whose tactical prowess makes Yootha Joyce look like Bill Shankly.
After reading his autobiography, he doesn’t seem too bothered about what league he is in as long as he is challenged. There is no bigger challenge around at the moment in terms of potential, stadium and facilities etc its all there if somebody can get them back up. A couple of things he alludes to in his book are how he has turned down big money moves in terms of playing and management because of 1. The challenge wasn’t enough and 2. He couldn’t uproot his family from Manchester so when he was in the Sunderland job he struggled to adapt because he was so far away from home and his family. He wasn’t concerned about his salary but was more interested in an incentive bonus. 1m quid for promotion. Thats what drives him on. The challenge to be successful. He is out of club management and could continue in his role with Ireland and he is 20 mins away. I think he would jump at the chance. I very much doubt the club have the balls to make such an appointment though. A born winner.
So this is the same Keane who has a caustic personality, who could start an argument in an empty room, who fell out with entire Irish coaching staff, caused all the Sunderland players to celebrate when he resigned as manager, and was an abject failure and eventually sacked as Ipswich manager?

Oh, and he once kicked up a fuss and wrote about it in his newspaper column when one of the girls at the DW ticket office didn’t recognise him and wouldn’t sell him a ticket?

Yep. Perfect for the job!

TBH standish i think he would be perfect & the job at wigan would be the challenge he might be looking for. As for causing arguments, is this because he has passion & committment as well as not being a yes man.

There are two sides to every story and sometimes some stories are complete bullshit to start with. I would recommend anyone to read his book. ‘The Second Half’ He unearthes a lot of the stories that have dogged him throughout his career. Strikes me as a very honest man, probably too honest. Your perspective of him might just change. Apart from that, it’s a riveting read anyway.

Pearson is top candidate, by a country mile.
At one time, I’d have said McClaren, but no, I think his stock has decreased with recent failings.
Jackett might be a steady man to sort us out again.

Personally, I’m not interested in Jones, Rosler, or the dude from Lincoln. No disrespect, but that’s scraping the barrel.

The club would have a chance with Jackett I’d imagine but there’s not a cat in hells chance that Pearson would ever come.
I wouldn’t touch McClaren with a barge pole & never would have but even he ain’t gonna consider a Lge1 club.

Like it or not Jones, Rosler & Cowley are our realistic targets
Disagree with you. If you don’t ask, you don’t get. Might be surprised.

Not a personal attack at anyone this, but qsome of our fans are very small minded, as small minded as the club in fact. Why? Is it just a Wiganer trait? Seriously? I’m thinking of years ago when wigan miners ate humble pie and broke the strike by going back to work….is the ‘thinking small’ thing just a trait?

Some of the names being mentioned….it absolutely f***ing terrifies me! Luton manager? Lincoln manager? Are you having a laugh? Are you Bolton fans on the pisstake?

Jaysus tonight…

Pearson please if any. Not keen on him but he plays football and likes to win by playing football and attacking.
Keane??? No way. Ignorant and arrogant git. Would rather have Coyle back than that horrible man.

Pearson if you want a name but Keith Hill would get us promoted.

My problem with Jones stepping up is this. He has been with Bobby a while and has coached at Prem and now International level. Bobby had us playing a style he believed was best for the Prem ie one up top and strong midfield. GJ has been part of that set up and so will have the same ethos . In div 1 it is direct and much simpler and I don’t see the tactics working at this level. Can he adapt and play the way he ,Barrow, Atherton etc used to play and would he want to. That’s why I believe we should go for someone who knows the division and what it takes to be up there.

So your convinced it will be the Martinez way ?. So what your saying is, we need a Div1 manager ?. And what happens if we go up ? he be out his depth in the Championship.
Am I dreaming or has this happened before. So what we really need is to play the Div1 way with a Div1 manager and 2 Div1 centre halfs who can lump it up to Bogle who in turn can nod it down to Grigg.
Sorry but I think Jones will knowt there’s a big difference in player quality, style of play and Div1 pitches compared to the Championship and the Prem.

Ffs give the guy a chance or are you saying he’s over qualified ?.Nout like setting your sights high with likes of Kenny I’m forever blarwing babbulls Jackett, just the man for the job…Jesus wept

I’d take Jackett over Jones, every time.

We aren’t in a position where we can take another punt on another assistant manager in the hope that he will be a success. We’ve been down this road a few times now.

We need experience. Look at Bolton. They appointed Perkinson who had previous experience at Bradford and elsewhere and look what he’s done for them.

Seems to me we always aim for either a no mark from a lower club, an assistant with no experience, or someone linked to Latics. It’s so frustrating! Have some belief and pride in the club!

Get Pearson in and give him a free reign to bring in his own staff etc. Build the club HIS way. Give him a 2 year deal and say if a premier league club comes in for him, he can go.

He bloody well should be!! He should of been there before the Forest game, I’m not liking the way things are being done at the club at the mo and the blame starts at the top and I’m probably Sharpies only fan.I think Barrow is going after the statement from Sharp about him taking over at a difficult time and the players playing for him YES ok but were still get beat every week rant over.

Is there a list of speculative options, I ain’t seen much on this matter.

I’d like the bloke from Lincoln to get the job

Along with his brother Tyldesley.. can’t say I’ve seen much of Lincoln City this season but their style impressed me in the FA Cup. Not a bad shout.

Interesting one that yosser…. but would be a mistake for me. His track record as a man manager isn’t good, Ipswich would vouch for that.

Over qualified are you for real? Which part of he has no experience as a manager do you not get. He has been Bobbys no 2 NEVER a manager. Just because he played for us doesn’t make him the best man for the job. He is a total risk if appointed and will undoubtedly be sacked mid season if we are not in a promotion position coz thats what we do. Then what will you say.

Exactly as he says. Why set ourselves up for yet another fall? This club cannot afford another mistake. It literally can’t. But we need to be bold and stop all this pussy footing around and get the job done properly.

When people are going on about the Lincoln manager and stuff like that….it bloody well concerns me. 5 or 6 years ago we were giving teams like Spurs a game….now we are talking about nicking a manager off Lincoln City? Ffs! Is that how far we have come? Why not see if the Burscough manager fancies a pop at it, or maybe the Southport manager? So Lincoln had a decent season in the conference and a cup run? Even in League One we are are miles away from that level. Such a move, for a lower manager….bad mistake. Has to be someone proven at league one level at the very least. A no nonsense guy who.wont take any guff…a strong guy…not a pushover.

Only 2 stand out for me….unsurprisingly one is Nigel Pearson…as admittedly, he’s my number one choice. The other is Mick Mccarthy, but I don’t think he will be available.

#158703

Trouble is vat selling the club to a Pearson or Mccarthy. Would they not expect a huge wage as well as a transfer kitty.
