Pearson is top candidate, by a country mile.
At one time, I’d have said McClaren, but no, I think his stock has decreased with recent failings.
Jackett might be a steady man to sort us out again.Personally, I’m not interested in Jones, Rosler, or the dude from Lincoln. No disrespect, but that’s scraping the barrel.
The club would have a chance with Jackett I’d imagine but there’s not a cat in hells chance that Pearson would ever come.
I wouldn’t touch McClaren with a barge pole & never would have but even he ain’t gonna consider a Lge1 club.Like it or not Jones, Rosler & Cowley are our realistic targets
Disagree with you. If you don’t ask, you don’t get. Might be surprised.
Not a personal attack at anyone this, but qsome of our fans are very small minded, as small minded as the club in fact. Why? Is it just a Wiganer trait? Seriously? I’m thinking of years ago when wigan miners ate humble pie and broke the strike by going back to work….is the ‘thinking small’ thing just a trait?
Some of the names being mentioned….it absolutely f***ing terrifies me! Luton manager? Lincoln manager? Are you having a laugh? Are you Bolton fans on the pisstake?
Jaysus tonight…
The point is though Vat that you are talking about a manager who is widely credited with setting up Leicester to win the premier league last season. I know he went to Derby but they’re not short of a few bob & we’re aiming for the top flight.
No way on earth is he a) gonna move to a Lge1 club without a pot to pish in who (to outsiders) look like they are on a long term slide & b) are unlikely to be able to meet his wage demands
By all means ask him but I think we all know what his answer would be. You need to realise that Latics are no longer the club they were 5 or 6 years ago & need to set their sights accordingly.
Using your theory of not taking a risk on lower league managers, Sheff Utd would never have gone for Chris Wilder from Northampton & would have continued throwing money at “big name” managers who’ve wasted it & left them floundering in Lge1 for 6 years. As it was they did take a risk on a lower league manager & it worked6 May 2017 at 6:01 pm #158706Trouble is vat selling the club to a Pearson or Mccarthy. Would they not expect a huge wage as well as a transfer kitty.Maybe if we didn’t waste hundreds of thousands of pounds every year on wages for players who never play and wages for unnecessary loan players we might have a bit more in the pot to be able to pay a Manager like Pearson, McCarthy or Keane.
6 May 2017 at 8:23 pm #158709Our next full time permanent manager won’t be in the stands tomorrow, he will be in the dug out or stood in his technical area!

Great post but not shithouse Keane.7 May 2017 at 3:28 am #158717I liked Keane as a player….a bloody top midfielder and a winner. But as a manager? Too combustible I think. A bit too much of a hot temper, I think.
We need to tempt Pearson here and pay him the salary he deserves. Let him build our club up.
7 May 2017 at 4:54 am #158718Pearson would be great but he plays the Wigan way not the Martinez way.
7 May 2017 at 5:46 pm #158725Some great responses here. Dismissing Keane out of hand and trying to promote Pearson instead. Making out he is some kind of angel in comparison. Is this the same Pearson who grabbed James McCarthur around the throat. The same Pearson who verbally insults reporters. The same Pearson who offers his own fans out and tells them to ‘fuck off’. The same Pearson who split the Leicester board room with his slanging matches. Yeah good choice. A choir boy.
7 May 2017 at 6:17 pm #158726Neither Pearson nor Keane would give the job consideration. Person’s ego and persona would rule him out.
Keane has a nice set-up with ITV and the ROI, and despite his “angry man” image, enjoys being away from the limelight. Plus he likes a game of RL, which would alienate many on here!
Get someone like Nigel Adkins in and come back stronger and better for it.

From Matlock to ManU
What a journey!7 May 2017 at 7:00 pm #158728TBH don’t even know why we are discussing Pearson and Keane coz neither will be the next man in the hot seat. We cannot afford them and they wouldn’t come if we could.
7 May 2017 at 7:14 pm #158730TBH our next Manager has been in the stands for the last few weeks !
Let’s see who has been observant:

Possibly correct, from what I’ve heard his attitude is questionable.

I’ve heard it will be announced sooner than what we are lead to believe.
I know who LHL is implying, so I will start you off with the first clue.
He is English.
