Spot on ..I wish I had 50p for every lame excuse Ive heard as to why wiganers dont attend football/rugby games .One friend says he cant afford to go yet spent over £250 on Man U kits during last season for him and his 2 small sons to adorn as the curl up in front of the box .I’m very unhappy with the clubs plight but still £250 for me and my son is unbeatable value irrespective of on the pitch situation, long may it continue.

I’ve made a point of taking my kids since they could walk and to grow up as you say supporting your local team just as i have done since the northern prem days.
My youngest said the other day ;-

I don’t like going latic’s no more dad, Martinez is crap !! ,
just to point out , he never mentioned the players ,its black n white to kids no 3-5-2 5-3-2 etc,,,
I’m a latic’s fan , period , but i’m sorry to say Martinez has slowly but surely been found out. He’s in the 16ft 6″ when he should be in the kid’s paddling area with arm bands on.He remind’s of a stubborn old man who want’s to prove he’s right no matter what.

as me old man use to say
“you can’t paint a turd !, it will always smell”.

Good post that, I have 4 nephews and they just don’t want to go now. At first they were buzzing but now because we get beat every week not interested. A young kid is not bothered about stats or 4-4-2 or 3-5-1 they just want to see the team win. After all I actually thought that was the point.

Silly me.
Calling ths manager a turd, a good post? Well done, big up, you!

And it’s a good job your kids weren’t around watching Wigan when things were really bad then. If your kids want their team to win all the time, I suggest you take them watching United or City then. You may as well, cos you clearly haven’t taught them what supporting your team really means.
Ok Griff were have I said in my post they were my kids??? Were in my post did I say that my nephews expected us to win every game??? And unless they read Cockney Latic which I very much doubt they won’t know my feelings regarding how the club is run. We have a team in Wigan were they can watch live football so I don’t want them never missing a game on the telly.

Oh and I was there in the really dark days when Bill Kenyon was chairman, where you???

I am afraid if you have an opinion Hindley and the lightsiders dont agree with it,then thats it, they resort to bullyboy tactics, and we all know who the bullies on this site are ;)

Bullying? It’s called having a debate. Try it – it’s good fun. Much more fun than than posting illiterate ramblings of twelve words or less.

At the end of last season the current manager despite keeping us up was still under fire from some myself included. A few on here were still saying that there were no real obvious solutions to us changing manager ie ” Who would come here ” etc. Now at that time Chris Hughton, Big Sam and Martin Oneil were all out of work and have since got jobs. All 3 clubs that employed them respectively have improved beyond belief ! I think we could have tempted two of those three no danger ! Discuss……..
PS Please don’t say ” Why would we want to get rid of a manager who had just kept us up ” Our fortunate survival papered over some serious cracks in my view ! Hindsight has proved me not far wrong !

I’d say there was outside chance of one of those Phil – that being Hughton. We’re not big enough for O’Neil, and I think the chances of Big Sam going to a club of a not dissimilar ilk to Blackburn and Bolton were highly unlikely.

Maybe Hughton could have done a good job, but maybe also he’d have tuned us down flat as being an unfashionable club with no potential – which, let’s be honest, is how we are viewed by most of the outside world.

I do think Hughton would have been a not-impossible target, and he is someone who has done a good job at two clubs so far.

However, at that stage he had done a decent job at getting Newcastle promoted, then was sacked – so how many would have welcomed him with open arms?

Improved beyong belief – don’t think so, I’ve seen it with my own eyes, so believe it quite easily.

2 of the 3 “improved” clubs are now playing Bristol City, not Manchester City, and Leeds United, not Man United. Sunderland have spent money.

Most of the time yes, I was. But I obviously did a runner back to university as soon as the collecting buckets came out. Still, it wasn’t all bad – I learned the difference between where/were/wear/we’re while I was their.

Mr Whelan may regret saying he would never sack RM we dont know that but im sure he cant be overjoyed that all his amazing work is about to take a big dent.Having said that he is such a brilliant business mind that he may have worked it out that relegation may not be such a disaster financially.Obviously nobody wants us to go down but Mr Whelan has showed in the past how ruthless he can be so he must know himself which direction we are going in as he is happy to keep the status quo.I just wished Bobby hadnt brought in Barrow and Jones and went for someone a bit more experienced and we may not be having all these anti-pro Bobby squabbles.Im not sure Big Sam or Martin O,Neil would ever consider coming to Wigan we would be beneath their ego,s and i doubt Mr Whelan would ever approach such a manager.I may not understand his decision to stand by a manager who I feel is out his depth but I will always believe that the club is in safe hands under Mr Whelans tenure.
