12 February 2013 at 11:41 pm #103238I read and understood his post first time thank you very much and I don’t need people like you coming on and trying to patronise me. Hope that’s cleared that up. B)
No you didn’t but I’ve give up trying to simplify it for you as others have also tried, thanks fellas but believe what you like fat fan, I’m happy to agree to disagree.
When you say others you really mean D/S’s, that’s plain to see. The only resemblance to something “simple” in this post is you my friend. Like you say lets agree to disagree, but I hope to god your dream scenario doesn’t come to fruition and you are left simply watching just 19 home games for many years to come.

What a journey!13 February 2013 at 5:31 am #103251No one appears to have thought about the financial side of relegation ( you’ll have to excuse me if they have – I don’t read all posts any more, it’s too depressing).
If we are relegated, we will lose the Premier League millions and will have to cut our cloth accordingly. Our income in the Championship would not sustain even a half-decent team, especially when the band-waggoners go back to Old Trafford, Anfield or the armchair. This would probably mean us fighting relegation again but this time in a lower division. People who think that we would be walking all over inferior opposition had better think again.
Unless ………….. David Whelan bank-rolled us all over again. If I was him though, I wouldn’t even consider it after reading some of the malicious and ill-informed nonsense posted on here over the years.
PS I know there are parachute payments but they won’t last forever.

one of us did actually think of the financial loss, this is what I said earlier in the thread;
” I can read your post a million times sunshine but it will still insinuate the same thing. Firstly you wouldn’t mind us going down cos we will be more competitive and therefore win more games. Presumably hoping that we win enough games to be back in the same league and plight we are in now, with just a one year break and more importantly, missing out on the money of “warchest” proportions that teams will get in the prem league next season.” B)

What a journey!13 February 2013 at 2:16 pm #103259It has never done the likes of West Brom and Bolton any harm, two clubs pretty similar in size to ours I would say !
13 February 2013 at 3:17 pm #103263It has never done the likes of West Brom and Bolton any harm, two clubs pretty similar in size to ours I would say !Well, if you count being £138 million in debt “no harm” then you’re spot on.
Parachute payments are just a drop in the ocean, by the way.

My reference to both those clubs was to indicate that if you go down then that is not the end of Premier League life for ever ! As for Bolton’s debt the majority of that debt is to the owner, another similarity to us should he turn round and say ” you can have it “

Same as when we came up, circa 11,500 !
13 February 2013 at 4:48 pm #103272Problem is while the £70 million sky money seems ridiciculous for next season it is showing no signs of slowing down with more and more people tuning in to the premier league around the world every season.
In another 4-5 years that will be £100 million and that gap between the PL will get a wider and wider.
I think common sense tells us we want to be on that PL ship when it sails away however what will be will be and I will be there for the ride whatever direction we are going in.
13 February 2013 at 5:10 pm #103276At last a bit of common sense and forward thinking has arrived in this thread. goodpost

Quite correct Salford. I haven’t joined the darkside, I was trying to point out the reality of our situation. The very fact that we have clung on to our Premier league status has enabled us to build a half-decent team. It has also enabled us to start building the infrastructure for continued growth into the future.
David Whelan is wisely developing the only football model that can possibly maintain a small club like ours at the top table. This includes buying the best young players and developing them to sell on.
Before they are sold on, the hope is that they are good enough collectively to keep us in the Premier League, safeguard our lucrative pay days and aid the recruitment process. Without the PL money everything could grind to a halt, or worse still, go into reverse.IF we are relegated then we have a very uncertain future and it will probably not comprise of happy away-days where we travel the country “tonking” everyone.
In summary – There is more to the Premier League than winning more matches and going home with a warm glow. We are not fighting for the future of Wigan Athletic, we are fighting for what KIND of future Wigan Athletic will have. I was quite happy watching them in the Northern Premier League and would be quite happy to do so again but I would much prefer to watch them play in the Premier League.
To Lowey et al I would say – be careful what you wish for!
14 February 2013 at 1:03 am #103313JR Fat whatever thi name is…. a saying that has stood me in good stead over the years is.
