Do we snatch Villa’s hads off when they are offering £10 million for them both? or is Hugo worth that alone?
I don’t personally think that we would miss Figs as much, he is replacable…. Hugo is a different story!
FA Cup Winners 2013, sounds good that
12 January 2011 at 3:34 pm #55257Agreed. It seems like two-thirds of al the goals we concede come to Figs side of the pitch. I think part of it was not having another left back to challenge him and thats maybe why RM dropped him onto the bench the other week to kick him up the arse.
Hugo we could maybe replace if we had all summer to do it. I cant see us managing that in two weeks. Plus we’ve just got shut of Boselli so we’d need two to come in.

Sell them both, in my own opinion i dont think either are premiership quality.
12 January 2011 at 4:25 pm #55263Lets take Fig for starters – there is no doubt in my mind whatsoever that with better – dare I say it ‘coaching’, this lad could be a decent left back and / or centre back. He seems to have gone backwards since the start of this season and not developed as he should. Therefore a change of club may well benefit him and us, of course depending if we can get a decent replacement – and dont say we already have one in Gohouri
Hugo – we would be very silly to let him go at this stage, we would be almost condemming ourselves for the drop, we cant score as it is and as we know no goals means certain relagation.
There will be much wheeler dealing – but I for one wouldnt mind seeing a new left back in and Tuncay for Boselli, but keeping Hugo
12 January 2011 at 4:35 pm #55264Sell those two, and Nzogbia will be on to his agent in a flash. “get me away from here!”. I wouldn’t blame him.
We’d end up selling Nzogbia for a cut-price fee, probably around £6 million.
What would be be without those players?
The richest club in the CHAMPIONSHIP, that’s what.
But ok, so we let Figueroa and Rodallega go to Villa for £10 million. Can we really buy quality replacements for that? I’m not so sure.
What kind of message does it send to the rest of the players?
12 January 2011 at 4:41 pm #55265Fig – I would rip their arm off at £4m!!! providing we had a suitable 6ft plank of wood to take his place…
B and Q give a discount to pensioners on a Wednesday maybe someone should suggest to Big Dave…
Rodallega – I don’t think we could afford to lose him at this point… one of our only “threats” up front.
12 January 2011 at 4:41 pm #55266We should get shut of Figgy. He has become a liability and his body language as Barmby stole in off the back of him to score Hull’s first on Saturday said it all.
He has gone backwards. I say get what money we can for him.
As for Hugo, we can’t contemplate selling him until the summer. I would rate him around £10m on his own. People may say he doesn’t score a shed load of goals, but I think in the latest Opta stats he has had as many shots on goal as Drogba but the only difference is, he is playing in a relegation-threatened team where he is having to shoot from long range because we don’t make enough decent chances for him.
I can understand selling one of our worst performers to our relegation rivals, which is what Villa are this season, but not the player who is our top scorer.

Just heard a story about Heskey going to Leicester as well, so it might happen.

First of all, where has this story come from?Secondly, I can’t see how we can even contemplate selling anyone with out at least like-for-like replacements coming in first. Especially, as someone has already pointed out, we are already looking liek being one non-playing striker down.
12 January 2011 at 5:42 pm #55275We should not even think about selling Hugo. He scores the majority of our goals and I would not contemplate selling him.
Figueroa is totally different however. Although I rate him, he is sometimes exposed defensively. Attacking wise, he doesn’t usually join in but when he does he looks a very good player.
12 January 2011 at 6:03 pm #55277Griff – The story is on Sky Sports website & is “according to sources”
As for my own opinion on whether its a good deal:
1) If we have a replacement already lined up for Figueroa then I would let him go to be honest. He isn’t performing & £4mill is daylight robbery. I do agree with the poster who says that with decent coaching he is a good player (look at him under Bruce) but at present he is someone who isn’t contributing much & we don’t seem to perform any worse when he isn’t playing – albeit against Newcastle his replacement cocked up & that led to the goal
2) To sell Rodallega now would be suicide. It looks like one striker is already on his way out so that leaves us with 2 strikers, one of who is injured & doesn’t look like he could hit a cow’s @r$e with a banjo even when fit. As we only play with 1 up front Rodallega’s replacement would need to hit the ground running & would have no time to settle in, adjust to Bobby’s “system” or any of that. I’d love to say I have confidence that Bobby has a replacement lined up who could hit the ground running but with his track record of strikers (4 signed, £12mill spent & all of em duffers) but I don’t12 January 2011 at 6:21 pm #55279I think if we do get anyone in it will be on loan with a view to a permanent signing in the summer, much like Boselli’s situation at Genoa.
We will more than likely end up with someome like Moreno – highly rated young kid who hasn’t quite hit the big time but has potential.
I mentioned on another post that Marco Ruben who we were going to sign this time last year is now playing regularly for Villareal and has scored a few goals so I’m always optimistic that one day we will find that little gem who is going to get us all excited :o
12 January 2011 at 7:47 pm #55280Swap the pair for Stephen Warnock and Emile Heskey and we have a deal.
Although Heskey on his own up front wouldn’t be clever…
12 January 2011 at 8:33 pm #55281i bet that owd grey fooker is rubbing his hands right now.
12 January 2011 at 10:05 pm #55285After a couple of decent games, maybe Bobby is looking to give McManaman a more permanent role in the first team?
FA Cup Winners 2013, sounds good that
