Chris, It’s not that I’m being ultra-negative, and where the aggressive comes from, I have no idea. But what it is, I am looking at where our points are coming from, and what’s going on around the club and I don’t like it one bit. I honestly believe we are walking a tightrope. A very wobbly tightrope….on a windy day.

I’m looking at upcoming games and I’m thinking ‘Can’t see many points here’. I’m looking at the transfer window and thinking ‘I can’t see us doing much, and yet I can see one or two key players leaving’. I find it highly coincidental that we are in the middle of the window and suddenly (yesterday) they start putting out the ‘James McCarthy will be back soon’ stories along with talk of Mosed not being far off. I’m waiting for Roberto’s “it’s like having 2 new players” comments.

Oh, and Dalglish apparently has Nzogbia on his ‘must have’ list.

But what is doing my head in most, is the apathy of a lot of our fans. So when will they start to panic? When we have two game left and have to win both to at least have a chance? I do wonder.

First Season- Did superb. Never built on a sound basis finishing 10th and getting to a cup final gives you.

Second Season- Brought in Heskey, lost Roberts and Bullard, and became a poor ‘hit and hope, aim for Heskey’ side. Why? Jewell got out because he knew we had ‘gone’.

Third Season- Made some signings that on paper, looked good. Sibierski, Melchiot, Bramble. (Freebies, I think) Started off ok, and then fell like a stone. Hutchings went and Bruce came in to steady the ship.

Fourth Season- Bruce assembled a good side, with Palacios and Valencia on fire. Then we got to January, sold Heskey and Palacios, and finished the season like a relegation form team. I genuinely think that Bruce had already been tapped up. He kept saying he had “failed to motivate the players”. How often does a manager come out and say that, repeatedly? He was just biding his time.

Fifth Season- Martinez came in, the prodigal son. A manager who had taken Championship side Swansea all the way to the glorious heights of 8th. (big wow) Totally changed our style of play into an ‘attractive, passing (backwards) style’. We went through last season with some unparalelled results, total hammerings. It was mediocre, and any other club would’ve got shut of the manger. But it was always an appointment made on sentimentality, rather than sense, wasn’t it?

THIS SEASON- More mediocrity. Certain improvements here and there, but still it’s garbage to watch, and we just don’t look like scoring enough goals. The squad is at full stretch, all the time, and again, if it was any other manager, or club, he would’ve been sacked.

I would not be surprised one bit if we do not reach 30 points this season. Look at the games we have got left. I am guessing at 26 points. Whatever, I’d fire him in the summer. It’s all rotten.

And who exactly is going to provide that new investment? Dave Whelans a very rich man compared to the average bloke but he’s a relative pauper in Premier League terms.

Martinez out. There, I’ve said it. All the other relegation threatened/ ‘in the mix’ clubs are looking at getting players in. Look at Stoke, offering 6.5 million for Mark Noble. I don’t think they’ll get him, but it’s a bit of ambition at least.

To be honest, I’m shocked I’ve been proved right so quickly. I expected a deadline day interview with Martinez pulling a few fake frowns, and saying he was frustrated….but at least we have those three back.

I’m sick of this kind of thing. Is nobody else? We’ve been playing at this premiership thing for the last 3 or 4 years. No ambition, no strengthening.

When exactly did anyone from the club say we will be spending any money in this window? And in that quote above he doesn’t actually say he won’t be spending money.

In fact, I read an interview in the MEN this morning where he says that after the Fulham game he will be actively looking to bring in a new striker. I’ve just tried to find it online and can’t, unfortunately.

So, it all really depends on which reporter you believe before you go off on a hysterical benny. I tend to believe nothing until I see a new signing not being paraded at a Latics press conference with Brenda Spencer.[/quote]
