We shouldnt be getting rid of anyone!…
To talk of getting shut of Hugo and Fig at this stage is ludicrous…..
we need bodies in not out!
To talk of getting shut of Hugo and Fig at this stage is survival. That’s what we do, and that’s how we stay in business.
Can you just clarify, survival from WHAT exactly?
Relegation?-Surely you need to keep your best players, rather than lose your left back and leading scorer mid season?
Post Relegation Wage-Bill? So the possibility is real then? Are they actually thinking at last that we might just go down? Are our fans starting to worry?
Not being funny here, but to suggest that we HAVE to sell these players now, is rubbish. I’ll go so far as to say that if we do sell those two, and Nzogbia as well, it really will be as though we have thrown the towel in. And if we don’t at least replace them ‘like for like’, and I doubt we will, it’ll just be more of an excuse for people to not go/stop going to games. I’ll be honest, if they go, and we don’t bring anybody in, I’ll feel like staying away myself. What’s the point?
How can they expect the fans to have ambition, if it appears the club doesn’t?
VatFirstly, the survival I‘m talking about is the survival of the football club from bankruptcy. The club will always have to sell its most valuable assets, and whether you rate either, both or neither of these two, they are two of the most sought after Wigan players.
It’s not a lack of ambition, it’s the only way the club can compete at this level. If you would rather we play in lower leagues and keep the same players season in season out, then so be it. Personally, I like seeing Wigan in the Premier League, and hope it continues.
Whether the players HAVE to be sold in January is something only the club could answer – not you, and you can’t discount it as rubbish unless you know the facts. Perhaps the players are at their maximum value and leaving it until the summer will reduce their value, will result in a lower bid, or perhaps the club have cash flow issues and need money in. It may be even be a case of falsified rumours being spread to generate higher bidding on one of the players mentioned in the rumour. Whatever…people who run football clubs are not stupid despite what some people who post on this site think, and do you honestly think Martinez would allow players to leave if he did not have a replacement in the pipeline?

Whelan might though, and has previous in this regard, but I agree with your general points.Anyway, what an appropriate way to bring up my 3500th post. Agreeing with SW and having an extremely mild dig at Dave Whelan.
About time I did some work now, I think. 3500 is an awful lot, isn’t it?
13 January 2011 at 4:30 pm #55338Standish,
You know no more than I do.
If you do, you must work for the club.
Start selling 2 or 3 players now, we might as well pack up. If its that sorry a state of affairs, its time to pack in.

Maybe so in the past, but Whelan actually seems to listen to Martinez’s opinion.More importantly…..(stands and applauds an innings of 3500 not out)

My boss prefers to look at it as 3500 not IN.

I have a large can of worms in my hand on which I am currently gluing the lid tightly shut.13 January 2011 at 5:56 pm #55344Whelan is on today’s wigantoday.net saying that he can’t see anyone leaving during this transfer window but that if Bobby wants to bring anyone in then somebody must be shipped out.
Can’t say I disagree with that & hope that when he refers to players being shipped out that its the duffers as opposed to the good uns – certainly with Bobby trying to shift out Boselli that would certainly seem to be the case
Although I do not with interest that Bobby’s arguments for trying to ship Boselli out are not to get shut completely but to help him bridge the gap between south american & english football & that he’ll come back in the summer the Boselli that world football knows about. nice way to swerve the potentially awkward question of wasting £6mill of your bosses money

Yeah, cause it’s a tin pot club.
I still tip up for my season ticket though. YOU don’t even go. So shut your guinea trap.

Don’t give toss.
Someone who doesn’t go to games having a dig at someone who’s missed 7 games in 25 years…….
How does that work, Chris?

I don’t know, but perhaps he’s a bit miffed because you seem to be in your ultra negative and agressive mode these last few weeks.
Christ knows why I’m getting involved though; anything to avoid building this client spreadhseet

Got it going on the BBC text service. Even I would find it blindingly pi$$-taking to be watching the telly whilst at work.
