Well I reckon that if we still had Waghorn he would be our best option up front, on saying that it doesn’t mean he would get picked! Tavernier would walk into that right wingback position as well but they have both gone and so it’s all theoretical ! Despite who or where they ply their trade now I personally think that they would stand out as good players in League One and both of them are better than all who have replaced them here!
As a footnote, let’s not forget what division James McArthur and James McCarthy plied their trade in,a division that they stood out in with the latter turning out to be one of the best midfielders in the Prem! Both Wags and Tav are currently stand out players in that same division and I believe they will also stand out in the SPL. It’s all about utilising them and working on their strengths rather than having them sit on a bench week in week out or sending them packing on loan somewhere! More fool us I say but like I said, it’s all notional now so bollocks to it!Disagree totally there Phil.
I think both Davies and Grigg look much better players than Waghorn.
He was/is a decent player, and better than most of what we had last season, but Grigg is a very good striker for this level and in my opinion, Davies has looked streets ahead of any striker we’ve had since Kone.
Waghorn has scored 14 for Rangers this season and as great as that is, don’t forget 7 of them have been penalties, and 3 of his 7 goals from open play came against the might of Greenock Morton!
When Rangers lost to St Johnstone recently, quite a few Rangers fans commented that it had been a wake-up call for them with regards to how big the gap between SFL and SPL actually is, and Waghorn was kept extremely quiet by a mediocre SPL defence.
Tavernier on the other hand is totally different. All I’ve spoken to rate him highly and think he’ll be a big hit in the SPL.
I’m yet to be convinced about Grigg.
First impressions are that he’s a bit lightweight, loses the ball too much and doesn’t show much composure in front of goal. Runs about a lot though, which will always score him brownie points with fans.29 September 2015 at 5:12 pm #144992You win JR I can’t compete with your humour or how you use those smileys any more. I can’t take any more rag dolling from the Cockney Latic Mafia, Garswood, Egg and you :silly:
Yeah right, keep pulling your own pud and those in the gang, anyone who can read knows what you are.
Don’t lock this thread by the way, this has legs and feat
Tell me Tez when you’re out and about and happen to engage someone in a conversation do you first check if they are carrying any sharp objects?
Reminds me of more robust version of Boselli.
29 September 2015 at 7:29 pm #144999Davies has been fantastic for us but its no use if he misses half the games through injury.
4 October 2015 at 3:32 pm #145085Tavs wades in with another goal yesterday! Over 45,000 on, shit crowd, shit team, shit player! Still reckon they would do us though!
6 October 2015 at 11:23 pm #145138Martin Waghorn named Scottish Championship player of the month for September. Little Jimmy McClellan, a 6 year old right back from Raith Rovers U7’s came a close second. :woohoo:
From Matlock to ManU
What a journey!7 October 2015 at 12:23 am #145139Can we sign the wee one for our defence.

As much as I don’t like his attitude in wanting to leave, it probably justifies his reason in leaving and proving himself at a higher level than ours.
8 October 2015 at 5:47 pm #145158I was just about to have a pop at you Tez as I thought you meant Waghorn was proving himself at a higher level.
Fortunately I had just read an article on Huws, so I checked your link first before making a prick of myself. For once I didn’t jump in feet first.8 October 2015 at 6:52 pm #145159Is Waghorn not proving himself at a higher level?
8 October 2015 at 8:27 pm #145160Is Waghorn not proving himself at a higher level? No!
He’s playing for a huge club but against non-league standard players.
8 October 2015 at 11:08 pm #145161When he is I the SPL next season he will probably still be cracking the goals in at another level but is that League one level?

Or it could be that he finds Warburtons more attacking style of play suits his game more than it did here.
Personally I would not fancy our chances if we came up against Rangers.

Maybe not against Rangers, but I would against all the rest of the teams in that league, and most of the SPL to be honest.
