The way i look at it now is that if we stay up it is brilliant. if we go down then so be it(heavy heart). I was Never part of either faction be it the dark side or light side.well according to Griff when he started this as i was sitting on a fence with some one else who i can not remember?. MY THINKING IS, WHAT WILL BE WILL BE? a Buddhist way of looking at it suits me down to the ground……..thank you :D

only once? through the trap door(brilliant club record) and i would rather we kept it that way. Like i say what will be will be :)

You’ve totally missed the point unless you have not been a regular viewer on here all season.
There’s a big difference between the darkside coming on here moaning like old washer women every time we lose and the likes of me, or the lightside if you so wish, defending our club and manager when these “fans” come on with a bitter hatred flavour in their posts.
I’ve not started one thread all season claiming Bobby’s doing a great job and will keep us up. I have no reason to hold my hands up for anything at the end of the season.
However, just count all the threads posted about him taking us down [starting from Sept / Oct last year] some actually state he has already relegated us FFS!!

Can you see the subtle difference?

PS If you gave a bad decision at the match you reffed, too true you may have cost them the game. Blasting over a penalty by the team, doesn’t make your bad decision indefensible.

      I don’t give bad decisions – I give correct ones!!!! ;)
Your comment however illustrates one of the points I was making
If Latics go down it will be because the manager, squad etc.. were not good enough. If Latics stay up it will be because they were good enough. Any team in the land will point to any number of decisions given or not given by the ref & their opponents will point to any number that did go there way

As for the other parts of your reply – I didn’t miss your point at all. I merely replied & said that IF latics stay up & if there is some progression on last season then he deserves credit for that & I will give it to him.
I merely also pointed out that IF Latics go down & IF we then proceed to struggle next season then thos on the lightside, by the same token, should hold there hands up & say you know what he isn’t/wasn’t good enough & won’t be no matter how long he is given in the job
I don’t recall mentioning anywhere that you had started any threads praising Bobby nor that there were as many pro-Bobby threads as there were anti-Bobby threads. However, whilst you brought that up there are regular lead articles on this websites homepage that are pro-Bobby & which accuse those who don’t think he’s up to the job & are vocal about it as “not true supporters” including 2 in the last week

IMO supporters of latics (pro or anti Bobby) are entitled to voice their opinions of whether they do or don’t think he’s the right man for the job at any point during the course of a season and or offer him praise/criticism after any game as they see fit. You’re right though that its ridiculous to say he’s relegated us (or kept us up) at any point until that is mathematically certain
One other thing I would take issue with in what you said however was the comment that many of the darkside are on here like washer women after every defeat telling everyone he isn’t good enough. Whilst its true to a certain extent when you come on here after Latics have played well & got a good result you can guarantee that they’ll be numerous posts claiming “where are all the whinging darkside tonight? They don’t like it when Bobby rams their claims down their throats etc..”
One follows the other (in both cases) as sure as night follows day – its just more noticeable from the darkside & therefore appears far mroe regularlay coz the team loses far more than it wins & bad performances have tended to outweigh the good uns

Tyldesley, that is so wide of the mark it could have come from Di Santo’s boot itself, and saddo that I am, I have gone back over historical pages just to prove a point. (The current season starts on page 40, so if anyone else has the inclination, please feel free to check. It’ll take you 20 mins maximum.)

I’ve taken twelve significant games, six positive / six negative, and counted the relevant negative/positive threads they’ve generated.

      Negative:
      Blackpool (lost) – 18 anti-Martinez threads
      Chelsea (lost) – 10 anti-Martinez threads
      Blackburn (lost) – 8 anti-Martinez threads
      West Ham (lost) – 15 anti-Martinez threads
      Arsenal (lost) – 11 anti-Martinez threads
      West Brom (draw) – 7 anti-Martinez threads

      Positive:
      West Brom (won) – 2 pro-Martinez threads
      Wolves (won) – 1 pro-Martinez thread
      Arsenal (draw) – 1 pro-Martinez thread
      Blackburn (won) – 3 pro-Martinez threads
      Birmingham (won) – 3 pro-Martinez threads
      Blackpool (won) – 3 pro-Martinez threads

Yes there is often tit-for-tat, and quite often a lot more tit than tat, but the anti-Martinez crowd are by the far the most active with knee-jerk reactions.

Seems from the length of his post TL appears to feel the need to unequivocally defend himself and the other darksiders.
I actually got bored with his novel after 3 lines but it looks like someones done a bit of reasearch and highlights the very point I was trying to make. :o

Whilst I like your Di Santo analogy Standish, all your stats do is prove the point I made in my last post
Yes, many of the anti-Bobby brigade will be out in force when Latics have had a bad performance &/or result but by the same token so are the pro-Bobby brigade when Latics have had a good result/performance
Yes the amounts of posts are less numerous but to me that just indicates that the anti-Bobby brigade are more numerous than their counterparts and based over what’s been seen over the majority of the last 2 seasons that’s hardly surprising

My point, however poorly or boringly (sorry jrfatfan ;) ) made is that its hypocritical to slate the “darkside” for their posts when the “lightside” do exactly the same only they’re less in number
However boring & repetitive the lightside may find the darksides posts its no more or less boring or repetitive than the darkside find the lightside’s posts about “give him time”, “he’s trying to change our style of play”, “his hands are tied with finances”, “you’re not a true supporter unless you back the manager” etc…. whether its in messageboard posts or in lead articles on the website

If you want one side to stop then the other side has to stop too – IMHO

Are you honestly trying to claim the anti-Martinez gang outnumber the pro-Martinezers by around 10 to 1? (Incidentally, none of your posts have been included as anti)

Each time we have a poll. The results come out 50/50 pro v anti. It’s quite often the same posters starting ant-Martinez threads, sometimes 3 or 4 threads per defeat.

The Darksiders are more likely to post during a hissy fit following a defeat than the ‘Martinez Fan Club’ are to post joyous celebrations following a win.

It doesn’t matter how you try to stand your ground on this, it’s so blatantly obvious that even Di Santo (back to that analogy) couldn’t miss – providing it wasn’t from a corner by Watson, in which case it would be over his head or would have already hit the first defender.

Admirable though your reasoning is, even you must be able to see that you’re forced to hoist a white flag on this debate.

No I’m not claiming the anti-Martinez camp outnumber the pro-Martinez camp 10 to 1. I never said that & nor by referring to your stats could that be inferred. Your own research shows that from the games selected there were 69 anti-Bobby posts & 13 pro-Bobby posts so I make that about 5.3 to 1 just using those stats alone.
From the Latics fans I know as friends & talk to through work not one of them thinks Bobby is up to the job.
When I’ve been to games this season the overwhelming number of people sat round thing don’t think he’s up to the job from the comments I hear.
So I’d say that the anti-Martinez camp does outnumber the pro-Martinex camp & that’s reflected in the number of posts you have shown
I haven’t seen a poll on here asking whether Bobby is up to the job & certainly haven’t voted in one so I can’t acknowledge your 50/50 claim one way or the other although as I’ve said it isn’t my own personal experience

As I’ve said as sure as you can guarantee “Bobby Out” posts after a defeat & often who will post them I can guarantee that after every good performance or victory there will be “Where are the darksiders now?”, “The Corner has been turned” etc.. and often you can guess who will have posted them

Its so blatantly obvious that even Aghahowa, unmarked in the middle of goal with not even the keeper to beat, couldn’t miss

In summary and to stop me :angry-banghead: , yes you can guarantee darkside posts after every defeat but likewise there are lightside posts in the opposite circumstances & even your own stats back that up. Also yes there are more darkside posts than lightside ones after each type of result but its my belief that the darkside is bigger in number than the lightside & by a relatively large margin

          No white flags ;)

sounds to me like Usa and Russia.
Like Reagan and Gorbachov sat down and decided what weapons they would get rid of . The Leaders of both the bright and dark side will have to sit down and decide on a cease fire. who are the leaders of Both factions :P

            #64726

Tyldesley Take the figures as an average post per game, not a grand total and it’s actually 11 – 2.

That aside, Christ knows what sort of company you keep and where you sit in the stadium if everyone you speak to is against Martinez and don’t think he’s up to it. Do you all meet up at a set point pre-match – under a large dark cloud somewhere?

Out of my mates, it’s a mixed bunch, as is where I sit in the West Stand. There are some of my mates who want Martinez sacked, but to explain, these particular people know feck-all about most things, and usually always make the wrong decisions on life. ;)

For me, the Dark Side are not more numerous, just more prone to reactionary comments, booing, jumping up and down shouting etc, so they are noticed. If those who support Martinez started standing up, applauding and shouting praise at him mid-game, them maybe they’d also be noticed. I’ll stand by my 50/50 assumption.

There is currently a straw-poll going on another thread, anti v pro.

I have now laid my weapon down, and am backing away slowly….

when we loose the darkside go home and write about within half an hour. When we win the light side all have a disco and dont report back here till monday thats the reason for more dark posts
