Or to put it another way, get right behind your team during the bad times as well as the good.

What a journey!12 February 2019 at 12:05 am #176213Being in the second tier of the football league pyramid are bad times?

If someone jumped on the PJ bandwagon and has only seen success then I can understand them thinking we should be pushing for promotion, but when you vet guys who watched us in the non league days or at Springy coming out with “worst player ever” “worst side ever” it’s baffling.
12 February 2019 at 11:25 am #176216Volounteers walking around Springy collecting money were bad times and facing relegation from the football league or worse still being threatened with our very existence or struggling as a non league club were much worse times.
Less than a 1000 fans there for a match against Bury wasnt exactly fun times either.
Our plight being ignored by the council who were quickly there when we brought the cup home and being scoffed and beroted by a famous Rugby club and their fans is also there in my memory of hard times.
Never forget.12 February 2019 at 12:32 pm #176217There’s some right daft sods on here. I’ve just watched us batter Aston Villa at home, comfortably beat QPR and there’s no chance we will be going down. Wigan Athletic in the championship is a massive achievement for some of us and like Donny says only these JCL fans could think otherwise. Be alreet under Kenyon!

Spot on egg lad, always said it is our young fans I feel for coz they have missed the brilliant early history from achieving league status, the first Wembley win the giant killings. We appreciate our position for obvious reasons whilst they have seen too many relegations. I fully understand their views its the older fans who have seen it all who moan about the club. Its those folk who need a reality check.
12 February 2019 at 1:11 pm #176219Okay, okay I was one with a bucket, when I say bad times I mean losing every other game, not the position we are in the football league.
No doubt some on here would have topped themselves watching us flounder under Bill Kenyon.I can understand the young fans having a moan, but looking at the user names these are older fans with obviously short memories.

Never forget.I was at that Bury game. Was it Leyland Daf cup, lost one nil to a Kevin Hulme goal. Circa 90-91 i think.

I remember the Kenyon days very well. But we were paying players £200 pw then. We had players like Ronnie Hildersley, David Fairclough, has beens. We had a fair share of never will be’s as well. Richard Brolly, Johnny Magee…probably cant even remember him. There were countless others.
I did like Phil Daley though. Considering we signed him from Neston, he actually did a very good job for us. There was a time when players who hadnt quite made it at Crewe Alexandra were our great big hopes. Andy Lyons…did great, Danny Vaughan…disappeared.
Im just reminiscing here….

No, we did play them in that competition in 1990/91 & lost 2-1 but the attendance was over 1000 (only just mind)
The sub 1000 gate was when I was in my first year at Uni which was between 1993-1994 & we lost 3-1 (having just checked)13 February 2019 at 1:58 pm #176246Okay, okay I was one with a bucket, when I say bad times I mean losing every other game, not the position we are in the football league.

I think the players were on slightly more than £10,400 a year VAT – I had a friend who was working with Alan Johnson’s mate whilst he was at Latics and the figure he got told he was on was somewhat higher than that. I’m struggling to remember it now but I have either £18k or £35k in my head
Fairclough & Hildersley were awful and I’d agree on Daley – his partnership for a season with Gary Worthington was superb & I’m sure got us around 40 goals between them
Danny Vaughan was an odd one coz I thought he looked superb in Swain’s pre-season & then he just disappeared. i did hear rumours years later of some dodgy out of Latics stuff but have no idea whether they are true
