Saw that, they also quoted later on “who share the stadium with League One Wigan Athletic” – really any need to specify the division we are in other than to belittle us ? why not just say “who share the stadium with Wigan Athletic” ? I know it sounds picky, but it just adds to the frustration of a seemingly not care about the football club owner and only in it for the rugby glory.

3.5m is peanuts for a league 1 player ? As much as we alm would like to have got at least 5m and it reinvested in the squad, it aint gonna happen, at least not for a while. I hate the fact Danson is invisible, I hate the fact he seems to care more for the egg chasers, but it is what it is as much as i hate to say that, so 3.5m to me is acceptable as to where we are at the moment in terms of sustainability versus expecting crazy money. It will all take time, as much as i would like to see us spend hundreds of thousands upwards, it aint gonna happen for a while yet, and yes that pisses me off big style, but the other option is no club and jack shit to do on a sat afternoon apart from take the maud shopping….
Lets be sensible here. If he hadnt signed a new contract he would have gone for nothing. Getting him to agree a new deal rather than the rats that went to nob end was a bonus, and he has to also look after his own interests, like it or not, so i dont see anything wrong with him signing with a min release clause – it guarantees us a fee and to reward him for not jumping ship, lets him leave when the fee is met and he wants to go. We probably wanted a higher release clause, but if we had to settle on 3.5 mil versus lose him for nothing potentially, then i see that as good business, not bad, and good luck to him.

It’s with a heavy heart to announce that my time representing Wigan Athletic has come to an end. Contract discussions have finished and as disappointed as I am to be leaving I respect the situation the club is in and wish the club success moving forward. I want to thank all the staff, especially the 1st team staff I worked with last season for helping me fall back in love with football. Also a massive thank you to my team mates from the last 3 years, I’ve made some friends and memories for life and I wish you all nothing but the best, there’s some unbelievable young players at the club who will go right to the top.
Lastly a massive thankyou to the fans for all the support over the last few years, as I’ve said before I’m grateful you got to see me enjoy my football last season after a difficult couple of years and I have loved the relationship we have built up.
Thankyou and best wishes for the futureI used to subscribe to the fans fund, as under the last ownership i really feared for us, and in my own way my money was going towards keeping the club going should anything catastrophic happen again. I dont subscribe now, because of the complete silence from Danson on anything from the short term to the long term ambition, visiting our games, statements to the supporters, in fact anything at all that would motivate fans to get season tickets for next season, buy replica kit, tell us where we are with the restructure of the backroom, scouting network etc. …. actually say something that shows you are remotely interested in us as a club rather than a business. Of course everyone is grateful for saving us, but thats in the past – what do you actually want from this “venture” – please tell us all, and use your voice for the good of the club and keeping us informed and uplifted, rather than saying nothing, no visibility and seemingly no interest in the fans nor the club – its not too much to ask to actually talk to us .
I cant believe that at this time where the season ticket renewals are out, there has not been one piece said by him to encourage us to go ahead to buy one.. this is basic business sense ..
