Why,don’t you think we deserve,as paying, loyal customers, the honesty as well.
Nonsense. This is a discussion betwen Roberto, his current employer and any potential future employers; decisions which will affect Roberto and his family’s lives.
This isn’t a soap opera, you know. This is real life. Why on earth do you believe that because you pay (cheaply) to watch football games for your entertainment that you suddenly have a right to know all about one of the staff’s plans for the future?
I am not saying I have a right to know about his future.I said,he(whelen),had said that Martinez ,or wigan ath had definitely not been approached by any other club. Then he says, he doesn’t know if Martinez had been approached. He should know as Martinez is still under contract with us.So therefore shouldn’t be approached at all.
Paying for football(cheaply), is relative to how much you earn and what family commitments you have.To some people latics maybe cheap,to others it maybe expensive.
In short, as Garswood says, you have absolutely zero right to be involved/made aware of private discussions about Martinez’s future, or anyone else at the club for that matter. If Whelan chooses to use the media to pressure/cajole Martinez or perhaps put off potential suitors then that’s his business and right. I seriously doubt that any of his public pronouncements are made with you, or even me, but you especially, in mind.
And quite right too. Because it has rag all to do with you. Your job is to support the club, whoever it chooses to put in place as manager. You can sit glued to Sky Sports and wait for the answer this afternoon like the rest of us.
Thanks for making me special.I was simply stating Martinez should not be approached by any club whilst still under contract.Whelan should know if any other club has approached him.He says he doesn’t know.keep calm.
Well, try this… say what you mean in future, rather than something completely different. And believe me, I didn’t make you special – that probably happened naturally, quite a while ago.
I cant help thinking that Griff has a get out clause with this one due to the ambiguity of his suspected put down ! ;) Think Mourinho and Darren Orme ;)
Griff, according to Aesop a man is known by the company he keeps. Your street-cred would hit rock bottom if you were to be seen with me. You have already been unfriended by Fil for making the offer. ;)
Street cred? Not sure there’s any real cause for concern, there
Has ‘Ye Olde One’ got a copy of ‘ARSED’ ? That is the question ! ;)
Have you, that is the question?
To be honest I have never been one for reading books. I do have various ‘Coffee Table’ books that can be opened at any page for concise reading sessions but on the whole I have never been into reading !
XXXXX, you have just been given the Griff condescending treatment ! ha ha ha. These legal beagle types know their way around red tape ya know!

The Leeds fixtures will be good and also all the derbies ! I hope we hit the ground running and start to challenge for promotion it will be such a lift for us all if we do !
Disclaimer- By using the word “We” I am not insinuating that I play for the club !

Fil, At the risk of sounding superior, there was no egg on my face. Let me explain why …
When Roberto explained the reason he played the youngsters in the cup matches, I must admit that I was disappointed we didn’t play our strongest team but… I supported them anyway and only expressed my disappointment in private.
When Callum Macmanaman was first called up to play in the first team, I remember commenting to my son that Martinez rated him very highly but personally I couldn’t see it. A few games later I changed my opinion and commented that he may have something after all. The rest is history.
When we won our way through to the final, I thought privately that we would be beaten but I kept these thoughts to myself and publicly proclaimed that we would win at a canter. I went to London, for four days, determined to enjoy the experience whatever the outcome. You can imagine my unbridled joy when the miracle happened.
What I am trying to say Fil is that we all have the same doubts and frustrations but some of us have learned to choose our words carefully. Once something is said it can’t be unsaid and there is always the danger that you could make yourself look a proper chump.
History was made at Wembley but unfortunately our relegation is now part of our history as well. The next page is still blank so have faith – it may tell of our return to the Premier League or European glory :)
Apologies if this post is too positive for you, it’s just my old-fashioned set of values which have no place in modern society. ;)
At the risk of getting sycophantic, I am starting to get worried now. when I read 99% of posts, I think… I would have written that, word for word.
Again, on this occasion, I couldn’t agree more with everything in that post.
Would you like to go for a drink sometime? ;)
I sometimes go over to the ‘Reasoned Debate Corner’ in the Brick for a brief conflab with Griff and his matchday crew. He knows what I am about really ! Good set of lads ! :)
Probably the only positive thing I have ever contributed to this forum ! ha ha ha
Griff, you call yourself a lightsider !!
No, I call myself a winner. ;)
Well at least you won a proper prize unlike those two poor women who won the coach quiz and got presented with your book as a prize on the pitch ( Why ? ) on Sunday ! :)
Well, it was all in aid of Joseph’s Goal, as you’d know if you bothered to read the words that accompanied the picture on my Facebook page, which is where I presume you;ve seen it?
The donated books helped to contribute towards a fantastic £840 that was raised on the day for the charity.
Those “poor” women (and two others who also won but couldn’t be present on the day) might not have appreciated the fact that the book was written by me, but I know they were very impressed to see they had been signed by Matt Jackson, Gary Caldwell and Roberto Martinez.
But if you want to remain cynical and small-mindedly belittle what is a fantastic cause in support of an impressive little boy and his brave family, you knock yourself out… you may find yourself up against me and, amongst others, my new best mate, Loudmouthblue ;)
Are you feeling yourself getting more sensitive as you get older ? You know full well that I wasn’t belittling the real cause and was in fact taking the rise out of you and your book ! The reason I ask about your sensitivity is because you got a little ‘shirty’ over your purchase from Next ! ;)
Phil, you really don’t want to be talking about fashion, seriously. I’ve never made any pretence to be cool whereas so try and make themselves look quite sad, really.
And whilst you may know you weren’t belittling the cause, others may not so I thought I’d point it out.
There was nothing wrong with your shirt, I recognised it as being from Next but you seemed to take umbrage when I first mentioned it in the pub jokingly ( Or was that another horizontal stripe number ) ! I am not a slave to fashion and never will be, the word fashion is not in my vocabulary ! I use that ” you wanna stick hold of that ” gag on a daily basis and very much with tongue in cheek !
Congratulations on your totally ironic points comp win by the way ! ;)The Brian ‘JONES’town Massacre !

But you didn’t contribute to this thread and so I wasn’t really referring to you ! :)
Brian from beyond his watery grave !
With the benefit of hindsight there is some egg on faces from both Dark and Lightsiders ! We were mostly all wrong in our assumptions ! I ate humble pie and in true ‘coming out of the woodwork’ style went to the final !
