I’d be a hypocrit to be against it because I have worked a lot in other countries and think it’s great that anybody can go anywhere in Europe to work for a while.Time for the really controversial comment that a few people are really going to hate, but if you have knuckled down and become really good in your field of work, you wouldn’t worry about anybody else taking your job, be it English, Polish, robots or them little green buggers from Mars. The country as a whole has been far too lapse in recent years thinking that we will be prosperous because we have been for centuries. Unfortunately, times are changing and other countries are fast catching up to us and overtaking us. Unfortunately, it’s often far too easy to blame everybody else but ourselves when we don’t get what we want from life.

Yes Phil, I agree that jokes don’t have to be analysed, but it’s something that gets right on my t1ts in Wigan when people presume Eastern Europeans come to the UK to sponge, when in actual fact that’s usually the last thing they intend doing.It’s the same as presuming everyone who is European and doesn’t speak English is Polish, people who wear turbans are Muslim, and anyone with anything other than white skin is a P@ki. Even some of mates are guilty of this, and it just goes to show how insular people in Wigan are at times.
So, yes of course I realised SDW’s comment was supposed to be a joke, but it would only be funny if you were a thicko who presumed Polish people come here to sponge etc.
Like I said Jonny there is a heaped helping of stigma attached to them. If the roof incident had say happened when we had the influx of Jamaicans I am pretty sure they would have been the brunt of the joke !( Had we been playing them of course ! ) I like jokes and appreciate the way in that they are formed and so putting the Polish apart I thought it was quite funny whilst knowing it had no real substance fact wise. At the end of the day the poles have Margaret Thatcher to thank for the onset of the downfall of the working class unions ! Can you imagine them getting many jobs back then ! On the flip side, I have several Polish customers and they are all good payers and very clean and tidy house wise ! :)
I must be being a bit thick here. I can see that SDW’s comment was maybe tongue-in-cheek but I thought he was saying that the report in the link was a joke. if so, I’m missing it completely.Am I having a pink* moment?

To be fair, I could see it was a tongue in cheek remark/joke and jokes aren’t really meant to be analysed for factual content. It is hard to get away from the fact that the Polish do have a fair bit of stigma attached to them as regards to jobs in the UK as they are predominant in the amount of immigrants from East Europe.I am on the fence here, like I said pros and cons but come on guys lighten up a little !
