I really don’t hope we are not embarrassed with our crowd on sunday, it all adds up to a low gate.
0-4 at pompey
fulham dont travel
fulham are not a big attraction
man u v chelsea on telly.
possible rubbish weather.
and the usual lack of interest.I hope im wrong, but I fear the worst crowd since we got in the big league.
and please dont give me, that’ look how far we have come rubbish’
I am as desperate as anyone for bigger gates, I just cant see what else dave can do.Why on earth would you be embarrassed?
I saw in the Mail this morning that West Ham are looking to clear out in January and that they wil listen to offers around £12m for Matthew Upson, for starters.
If that is the ball-park we are going to be in, expect Whelan to keep his hand firmly in his pocket.
And I wouldn’t blame him.
I’m pretty sure Benson was a swashbuckling full back in the top flight with Norwich. Probably more buckling than swash but what the hell. And if Uncle Dave can help out with defending at corners like he did for Rioch , we should be sorted. :?
Be careful what you wish for. I saw an old pair of Stylo Matchmakers in Age Concern in Ashton today. Don’t give those two any ideas or they’ll be down on Sunday filling that problem left-back spot, swash, buckle or not.
You don’t need to call me Christ, Alan will do fine Griff.
Must go lad, I have work to do.
Best poster eh, impressed.Touche! :D
Later.
Er…did I say YOU were???Christ lad, you’re getting boring already.
Good post Griff, far and above your usual standard.
Just my opinion, of course, as we are all entitled to one. Thanks very much, Alan.
Ok Griff, you are quite obviously a committed fan, and fair play to you lad. I know it’s none of my business, and I expect you to tell me so, but WHAT exactly do you do for a living, do you work? Reason for asking is that you seem to be on here almost 24/7.You would qualify for best poster as you are way in front a the ‘most’ prolific poster.
You’re right, it’s none of your business
I seem to recall some time ago, when we appointed Bobby, and then he went after Scotland and Gomez, that everyone was pleased. Not only with the appointment of the manager , but also Gomez and Scotland. It now appears that one of these two will emerge as the latest Latics whipping boy. We always have to have one don’t we, going back to the days of Geof Wright and more latterly Gary Teale.
Why can’t you lot just support the team instead of being negative all the time.
Gomez will prove to be a good signing, give the lad time.I, for one, am not being negative. Just think the striker options are very thin on the ground and we need cover in that department
My goodness, what is all this about?
The thread started off well, but degenerated into a childish battle about capital letters, punctuation etc. Ever so childish in my honest opinion. If this were read outloud it would sound like a year 7 classroom. I suggest some of you boys grow up a ltttle.CL best poster…..my god.
Really, there’s no need to refer to me as “God”. Griff is fine.
Latest rumours from various latics websitesJosip Simunic -Defender
Hatem Ben Arfa -winger
Vaded Ibisevic- striker
Benny McCarthy -strikerRaul Tamudo -striker
As stated only rumours
I’d be amazed at Ben Arfa but it seems to be fairly common knowledge that McCarthy is not flavour of the month at Blackburn.
I see on the BBC that Portsmouth are looking at Benjani again. He could definitely do a job for us.
at least i am not illiterate
Lol, irony at an extreme level. The ‘i’ should be capitalised.[/quote]
I might know f*** all about football (then again, that might not be true either) but I do know a bit about the English language.
I’d be careful if I were you – I spotted a few incorrect uses of were/where/we’re and your/you’re in some of your other posts but I declined to comment as I was having SUCH a good time pulling you up on other, more interesting, matters ;)
Para, re your post at 11:42 last night, 2/11 (that’s the time on my screen, anyway):
I picked on 3 points only because I was on my way to bed and don’t feel the need to answer every single one of your re-iterated points, and I see now that other posters have shed some more light on some of them anyway. No point continuously going over old ground now, is there?
Why must I be wrong, just because I don’t agree with you? And more to the point, why would I have to admit to you that I am wrong. And why do you get so aggressive in your arguments? You remind me of that short-bloke character Harry Enfield used to do. Are you short, compensating for something maybe?
Anyway, I digress.
No, I don’t believe everything I read in books. I have already stated that there are many things that Whelan does that wind me up; his hypocrisy over King is one such example (though I have said elsewhere that I agree with him – there are degrees of offence in my book and King’s latest custodial sentence is worth taking a stand on. It also saves him £2.7m, granted :) ) and the u-turn on the foreign manager stance has also proved to be a lie, that is plain to see for everyone. But I’ll show my backside in Poole’s Pies window if you can show me a successful multi-millionaire businessman that hasn’t told the odd fib or made the odd u-turn. I personally put up with all these traits because our football club is more secure – pound for pound – than many, many others because of the way that Whelan has run it.
So what’s your point about Saha and Owen? If Whelan wanted to sign big name players like this it makes no odds what he would offer – they wouldn’t come anyway. The only ‘big’ name this seems to have worked with is Heskey. But, for what it’s worth, I actually think that this club did well to attract the likes of Kirkland and Melchiot. WAFC doesn’t buy Central American players because Whelan’s tight, it’s because they see an opportunity to play in the premier league that a more established club is not prepared to offer and will accept relatively low wages to have that opportunity. I view that as a good thing for our club, a win-win if you like. You see it purely as a way to make more money for Whelan by selling these players a year later. All about opinions, isn’t it? There’s no right and wrong.
Finally you asked, “Were did I say he’d promised £40million every season? That’s right, I didn’t.”. At 10.03 last night you asked “Where is this 20mil Warchest he’s promised season upon season”. I suppose you’ll now split hairs and counter that you said £20m not £40m but we both know that you have accused Whelan of promising this warchest (whether it be £20m or £40m) season upon season when the reality is he hasn’t.
Personally, I am happy with the way our club is being run both on and off the pitch. You don’t have to agree with that.
Have a nice day – I am off to Weightwatchers now, and then going out to buy a new lap top so that I can spout drivel even faster than I do now.
Pompey drew 0-0 with Hull then hammer us 4-0. Be interesting to see how they get on in their next two games against Blackburn and Stoke.
If Figueroa is out for a while, what will Martinez do for the Fulham match? NZogbia at left back again? I fear were in for another mauling.Don’t know about anyone else, but I’m not remotely interested in Portsmouth’s next two results.
But fair play on posting without slagging off Whelan.
I’ll pick up on just 3 points, Para, because it’s obvious we will never agree:-
1, the £3m to £35 is a direct quote from Whelan’s non-picture book. Also, I believe, it is backed up in the club accounts (though I have never read them)
2, if you think that Saha and Owen would have come to Wigan, rather than Everton and Man U, you’re totally deluded, no matter what wages we might have offered. Why do you think we are scouring central America for people no-one has ever heard of?
3, he has NOT promised £40m every season, and it’s about time that people stopped perpetuating this myth. And in any case, Man U and Liverpool don’tcan’t spend that much.
u cuda just ignored him? he maybe entertained some people deluded nobcheeseAnd i’m sure that you, and the others he entertained, will continue to lick the windows in glee.
Actually, towards the end I did ignore him and will more than likely be adopting the same approach with you. :D
