uNo one is questioning their right to voice an opinion but I also have the right to call out those on here with whom I disagree with.
Is that not what this forum is for?
Yes!!!
Said it a million times before, if you believe that strongly in your opinion/argument you will fight your corner in the face of any counter argument, no matter how strongly it is presented.
If you can’t manage nothing else, keep repeating the same thing over and over again like itwasbackinthedarkages does until your adversary is bored into submission.
Failing that, just come on the forum, launch a single-post diatribe of unfounded drivel and then disappear for months on end. Like Yosser does.
Listen
you are the one being a bloody mard arse – telling people to grow up then coming up with childish extensions of my username (how very mature).
You need to take a long look in the mirror pal. Repeating ad infinitum is your trait not mine – you are always the one to bottle answering the questions with phrases like
“Oh aye, cos the day I jump to a demand to answer a question from anyone on this forum is the day I pack it all in.”
That’s hardly fighting your corner in the face of any counter argument (your words pal not mine).
This isn’t your board, people are entitled to voice opinion and present counter argument, but you? No, you have to be right all the time – even when you’re obviously not. It’s a shame about those small circles you move in because in the wider world there are others that think you are just an attention seeking child. Me? I think you’re just a simple, bitter narcissist who spits his dummy out when things go wrong.
Now bloody well grow up will you
That’s where you’re going wrong, pal. Thinking too much.
You don’t, and never will, know the first thing about what I am really like. I keep that for friends and non-Konbheads.
But feel free to keep posting this drivel. Only the really thick ones are not shaking their heads and laughing at you.
People laughing at you would be a specialist subject for you as you could speak from such vast experience – and I have that on good authority.
Do you really believe that the musings of a portly middle-aged man who comes out with phrases like:
“And you really can think what you want and be as pleased with your little old self as you like. Go and have a quick tug if you’re that pleased with yourself. If you can still manage it.”
are really tolerated by the educated among us. Like I said earlier, step out of the confines of your rather limited circle and listen to what the real people of Wigan think of your blatherings on here.
Oh! and when you edited your post did you purposely change knobhead to konbheads – marvelous.
Like I said pal, leave it and act your age.
(Shuffles awkwardly on his chair)
Anyone having anything interesting for lunch?
I’d offer to bake some Humble Pie, however, I doubt that anyone would like a piece.
And then you’d have to eat it all by yourself……
I have said/done nothing that would require such action Sammy – you of all people entering this brouhaha is mildly disappointing, I would have expected better.
I am attending the game on Saturday on a freebie in a box. Will I be classed as a supporter on Saturday or not? (just to clarify, I will be celebrating if Wigan score/win) :) :)  :woohoo: :woohoo:If it wasn’t a freebie would you still have gone?
Norman Whiteside
Eduardo da Silva (go on let me have that one)(Shuffles awkwardly on his chair)Anyone having anything interesting for lunch?

…c’mon how many times have you heard the phrase “He had a good Captains game”?
Honestly? Outside of a cricket ground – never! I know what you’re getting at, but I’ve never heard anyone actually say it
That would be a Captain’s Innings – not what I said. You must move in small circles
Why must I move in small circles, though I’m certainly going round in some ever-decreasing ones this afternoon?
And no it wouldn’t be a captain’s innings. That would be if he had been batting. What if he had spent a day in the field organising bowling changes and field settings? Either way, it’s academic – I’ve never heard anyone say it.
It’s the mental picture I get of you. Further, had you moved in larger circles you may have heard the term – it’s well known among those who frequent a variety of sporting events.
So, now that we all know what you actually don’t know; please tell us all – what is your understanding of what a Captain’s role is in a football team.
Well, it isn’t to nominate a regular penalty taker, I’ll tell you that much.
Well known phrase? I don’t think so. You’re struggling with this now, aren’t you?
Indeed, there is only so long I can dumb down a conversation.
You see, you are back to your old ways again – which is, just because you haven’t heard it very often it mustn’t be so. Then of course there’s your arrogance suggesting that there was no need to read up on a subject, because of course, you have assimilated everything that has been written on the game.
Look, if you don’t understand the subject, that’s ok with me – just admit it and we’ll move on. I’ll refresh your memory, as you appear to be struggling a little here:
I said (in a reply to The Egg): “Now then, back to what I was saying earlier – what we lack on the field, in my opinion, is someone who has those qualities to encourage, motivate, guide and lead on the field – as well as take the tough decisions on who takes a penalty or a free kick. Mixing and matching the Captain on a game-by-game basis is not sending out the right message to the players who should look to a leader for inspiration and leadership on the pitch.
That was my point”
So,I’ll ask you again – what is your understanding of what a Captain’s role is in a football team?
Oh aye, cos the day I jump to a demand to answer a question from anyone on this forum is the day I pack it all in. You flatter yourself if you think you can force me into continuing this boring discussion.
I joined in this thread for one reason only. That is to say – IMO – it should not be the captain who chooses a football club’s regular penalty taker, it should be the manager. You’ve then taken it all round the houses to talk about spurious phrases that may not may not be heard at various sporting events, a topic in which I have no interest whatsoever.
I am thoroughly bored with it now. Really.
No you didn’t.
You don’t jump because you know that your answer will show you up, further, you are the one who went on a verbal walkabout.
You revert to the old tired “I’m bored with it now” routine.
Give it a rest man – it is we who are bored.

This is a prime example. He was forced to take this by The Kaiser apparently.
This is out of context.

Perhaps I don’t need to read anything to know that we have not had so many red cards/substitutions/jibbering wreck situations to warrant having 5 different penalty takers in the opening three months of the season. Now, if neither Uwe, you or Horc can make your mind up who that should be before kick-off, then I agree that the captain might as well make the decision. Now in our case, that decision-making has been pretty shit of late has it not, so should he be trusted with it?
Oh, and the only thing you have me beat at is being old ;)
You see, we do agree, sometimes. Now what we have to talk about is who do we trust with such responsibility. Oh! and the responsibility of leading the team – c’mon how many times have you heard the phrase “He had a good Captains game”?
By the way I might be old but I think there are a number of things (cough) I have you beat at. ;)
What’s that then, emphysema?
Nope – Man stuff

Nothing to do with the captain. It should be pre-determined by the manager and coaching staff who will take penalties. Only if that person has been substituted, sent off or reduced to a jibbering wreck by something strange, need that decision change.
I refer the honourable gentleman to the bit in my first post:
“Who gets the team message from the club to the playing staff?”
Call me old fashioned but that should be the Captain.
OK then, you’re old fashioned. ;)
The managercoach gets the ‘club’ message to the playing staff. Who else? The captain is just one member of that playing staff.
The day I see Uwe running on to the pitch to sort out problems the Captain should be sorting is the day I stand side by side with that bloke in the Brick baring my arse.
Please do not undermine the role and responsibilities of the Captain (Club or Match). He is the go between for the manager and players and there to convey those policies on the field – and take those decisions you mentioned above.
I wasn’t (but if I want to, I will ;) ). You seriously think that in 6 days on the training ground running up to a match, a manager can’t decide who his penalty taker should be?
And you think that those managers who stand there yelling orders from their technical area only talk to the captain and get him to pass it on? You maybe OVER-estimating the role in the modern game.
I think in a straight race for the next manager’s job, Horc has got you beat hands down.
But you said so yourself:
“Only if that person has been substituted, sent off or reduced to a jibbering wreck by something strange, need that decision change.”
If there is in-fighting between the players, who then sorts it? Does the Captain look over to his bench and mouth “what do I do guv?”. No he takes charge of the situation.
I never OVER estimate anything but I do APPRECIATE the role in the modern game.
Horc is welcome to that job, if it comes up, however, when it come to the understanding of what a Captain or Leader actually does then I feel I have you beat – hands down. Perhaps you need to read the views and thoughts of past great Team Captains and how they saw their role in the team – time does not change these protocols. The modern game is still played by human beings – however, you may have a different view on that ;)
