I know, 5-0 was exaggerating but we should of at least scored. We have no urgency in the team and whenever we got forward we just went right back again. I think we’re just good enough to stay up though, i mean there’s a lot worse teams in this league than us, bolton, hull, wolves, west ham, portsmouth for example. Could do with 3 points over Sunderland.

Highly doubt we should have won 5-0, a team consists of everybody, keeper to striker, our striker wasn’t good enough therefore our team werent good enough.

When asked by the local press about the signing of a player, after it has featured in national newspapers and the such, he can hardly deny that they are looking to bring the player in. He’s merely stated the fact that a fee has been agreed, and added ‘we’ll wait and see’.He hasn’t started the rumour, or waxed lyrical about the player, so I’d hardly say he was building up hopes.
Ok maybe I believed the hype a bit more and that maybe built my hopes up, but then Whelan coming out and even saying anything about it makes me think it’s done and dusted, as usually I don’t think Whelan etc come out and say anything about players coming in until it’s sealed. Anywya i’m not actually trying to say that i am correct (this time :D ) , just that personally it built my hopes up when he decided to speak about it.

Obviously Whelan is going to be asked about it by the press, and he even ended his quote with ‘We all want it to happen, so we’ll wait and see’

I’m not arguing with you Standish, I was just saying that he has made comments and in my eyes it was building hopes up as he was ‘bigging’ the signing up.

There has never been anything on the Wigan Athletic official website about this transfer, and to my knowledge, no comments from Whelan or Martinez, and all reports of the alleged transfer (Sky Sports, ESPN, Telegraph etc) state their source as being the Villarreal website, the player, or the Villarreal Press Office.
To me, it sounds like folk at Villarreal has been shouting their mouth off prematurely. Had they not, this done deal of a transfer would still be on the rumour websites, and nobody would be kicking up a fuss.

I didn’t say that he said it was completed. You said he hasn’t made comments. But he has, which got fans hopes up.

Ticslad, is whelan the only one allowed to play the negotiating game in the media. You are prepared to blindly believe what the spanish say but not necessarily what whelan says. Why not wait until the deal is done or confirmed as off before wildly guessing what may or may not actually be going on?But Whelan did say he was coming, and so did the Spanish, so how is he believing what the spanish say but not what Whelan says? He shouldnt get our hopes up when he had no intention of offering him more than a grand a week or something.
Ok here’s my theory, Whelan has been the best thing to happen to our club, he got us to where we ae and deserves full credit, and does not deserve slating. My feelings are that now he has done with us all he can and he will not be putting enough money into our club to get us into europe. Time to move on i think.
