The closing date is just two weeks away, I guess a couple of you may want to amend your predictions??? ;)

28th October is the closing date for anybody else who wants to join in…

If you have paid for your memberships in person or via the WASC web site, your name will be on the system and so you can book on the coaches. Membership cards will be asked for on the coach, but if for any reason you haven’t got yours by then, we will cross reference the database to find your details.

Booking can be made at the Supporters bar for coaches, but as there isn’t another home game, you can ring Mayfair Travel, who kindly provide a boooking facility for us.

More details on WASC Site here

That is just Wigan, attendances through the gates range from 42,000 to 75,000 weekly……. evry attendee in a super league week would all fit into Old Trafford basically.

Don’t know how many watch on TV.

But in answer to the question of who gives***** the answer is around 75,000.

I’ve seen it and I can see why people will not shell out for a ST or go to the playoffs. Sport has to compete with everyday life in these tough times, and if something is perceived to not be “sexy” enough (and the current playoff system is about as sexy as Bella Emberg) then it will come lower in the list of priorities than feeding your family.

Similarly, the novelty of Premier League Football seems to have worn off (success being defined as 17th place), which is why your crowds have suffered almost a 20% drop since 2006.[/quote]

Average in 2006 – 20,610 (which included the ‘we’ll only be here one season’ so I’ll go brigade – a much better guage would be the year after, 06/07 – 18,159)
            Average in 2012 – 18,663

So I will accept that you will of course go for the inflated average in 2005/6 instead of the much more realistic 06/07.

            But 20,610 – 18,663 / 20,610 = 9.4%

I feel you have left yourself wide open for how they calculate things in rugby terms!!!!!

If you go off the better guage of 06/07 – there is an increase of around 2.8%.

Some get there from 12.00, for the players that arrive early, but most of the players drift in after around 12.30.

Huge difference in average atendance growth though:

                1994/95 – Wigan Athletic 1,841, Leicester 12,573, Warriors – 14,368
                2011/12 – Wigan Athletic 18,633, Leicester 21,096, Warriors (2012) – 16,043

Like I keep saying, our crowds are amazing considering where we were just 17 years ago, no other team in any sport anywhere in the world can claim a bigger growth. Leicester have done well to increase the amount they have done in the same period, the Warriors not so much!!!!!

It was a yellow, nothing more.

Towards the end of the game a Sunderland player was very close to snapping Kone’s leg in a two footed challenge that was far worse than Gomez’s sending off, but he didn’t even have a word with him.

I am sick to death of having to talk about referees and their inconsistancies. I am fine with refs getting decisions wrong, I am fine with them being harsh, as long as it is the same for both teams…. but it seems that we get the crappy end far too often, it certainly doesn’t even out with us…

There was also a clear handball by Ferdinand ( I think ) in the box. Some might argue that it was ball to hand; but no doubt it would have been given at the opposite end !!!

I have seen it three times and he controleed the ball with both arms, just after he threw Kone to floor…. neither decision given.

I keep saying that these decisions affect games, they can’t not do…. IF Wellbeck had been rightfully booked for diving, he is then on tender hooks fro the rest of the game. Had Ferdinand been booked for either the deliberate hand ball or the foul on Kone in the box and we had got a penalty we could well have gone in at the break 1-0 up and confident. Not thinking to ourselves, we are getting fook all out of this ref, getting totally demoralised and not turning up for the second half.

Unfortunately for at least three years on the trot, we have been hammered due to refs not having the balls to do their job. We will never know what the score would have been – we could have been hammered even more, but we could also have kicked on.

LOTP………and the home crowd was about 14000. Hardly something to shout from the rooftops about.

Actually, considering we were averaging somewhere in the region of 1,800 less than a generation ago, I think we have a lot to shout about.

Not that you can compare, but for interest in 1994/5 WRLFC average was 16,000ish winning the top flight and was World Club Champions. Whilst Wigan Athletic managed an average of 1,841 in theold division 3.

We see all the lazy journo’s dragging out that we have crap support, but when you dig just a little under the surface a different reality appears. There is no other club in the World that has had the increase in crowds that Wigan Athletic have had over a decade (not just in Football but any sport).

WE have always known that football was the number one supported sport in Wigan, there are thousands of Liverpool, Manchester United, Everton, Man City etc fans in Wigan and we knew this because the pubs used to be packed with them until Latics started competing with them. These same people are now seeing their sons and duaghters follow their home town team, and over the years to come, their children will follow them.

Regarding the Chelsea crowd, in 1985 we pulled this team in the FA Cup and with quite a large contingent from the South got just over 9,000…. we have come a long way, accept and move on.
