Lakukau or whatever his name is did a superb job for Everton last season but £28m? I think Bobby has been done the same as those who buy stuff from the luckie luckie men here in Lanzer. Didn’t grant holt score a few for Norwich in the prem but is only going for 4 bob and a lucky bag now.
If the guy scores goals again this season it will be a good buy, if he doesn’t then perhaps BK will extend Bobbys contract by another 7 years. I presume a fit Aroune Kone will be buying himself some anti splinter shorts for the coming season, why the fek did Bobby come back for him?

In my view McCarthur has become a better player since McCarthy left. He was up there with Gomez for player of the year last season.

McCarthy will never become the complete player until he eradicates those woeful misplaced passes. I’m talking the 15 to 20 yard ones when there’s no opposition player near him. He has everything else in his locker to become a top class player and will no doubt move to a bigger club in the next 3-4 years.

I, for one, am not posting on this thread because I have something to say about Martinez. It is the constant stream of shit and nonsense from the regular knobheads that motivates me to post on this thread. But I am thoroughly bored with it now.

I’m not too worried about Roberto either – I’m sure that he can look after himself.

But I am provoked to respond when the comments get more extreme and the insults get more abusive.

The Bobsessives have never understood that I’m not defending Roberto. If I’m defending anything, it’s truth and common decency.

And now we’ve had more than a thousand replies! We’re just going over the same ground again and again. I’m happy to leave it there.
Not only do you claim to know what Bill Kenwright, his board and all 40 odd thousand Everton fans are thinking, you are know claiming to know what I am thinking.

Think about this Standish, then stop interacting with us childish, bitter, twisted little men.

Dave Whelan and the board sat round the table at the JJB , well boys, nice new stadium, semi decent team and manager, what is the realistic plan for our beloved club………………the rest as they say is history and so is Everton’s future if you, BK and all the Everton players and officials, believe that shyte you have just spouted. B)

You sound a bit rattled. Was it the ‘little’ comment that got to you? Don’t take offence. It wasn’t aimed at any particular physical attribute, and it was used purely as part of the metaphor.

But anyway, back to the debate:

Seriously, you’re not getting this are you? There’s nothing to squirm out of. Who mentioned the ‘next level’? Certainly not me. Certainly not WGTBarnsley.

Let’s put it another way, if Moyes had not left to go to United, Martinez would not be manager at Everton. Do you agree?

Everton were satisfied with Moyes, and were not pinning all their hopes on going to ‘the next level’ because they simply do not have the money to do that. Do you agree, or do you think Everton have the resources to finish above Liverpool, Chelsea, Man City, Man Utd, Arsenal and Spurs every season?

Then the respected and highly rated Moyes leaves, and Martinez comes in. But, the fans are unhappy because they wanted a bigger name to attract better players, so Kenwright tells them how ambitious Martinez is by claiming the new manager has designs on getting them into the Champions League.

What was Martinez good at at Wigan? Getting his team to play attractive football, building a decent squad with limited resources, and developing the youth: exactly what Everton needed.

By now surely you realise that what’s said to the football media for the benefit of the gullible has absolutely no bearing on what is said behind closed doors?

So, this fabled ‘next level’ was only ever brought up by the bitter and twisted men (I’ve removed the word ‘little’ – is that better?) on this thread who are willing Martinez to fail and think a measure of that failure is Everton not getting into the top four.

I agree with you in that if Whelan had had no ambition Wigan would never have reached the Premier League. But you can’t compare that plan from twenty years ago to having an ambition today to compete on an even keel with football clubs that are backed by billionaire owners.
I’m rattled and you have responded with more words than what in your mates book. Glad to see you feel the need to respond in such detail to my post, gives me a warm feeling that does.

My money is on Everton doing no better than they did last season, in fact I’ll stick my neck out and say they will not be in the top 7.

It will be tough at the top, I’m sure. Michael Owen says, “But, in no particular order, my top four for next season would be Chelsea, Manchester City, Manchester United and Liverpool.”

Arsenal and Spurs are likely to be big spenders too. Everton – with much more modest resources – will have to compete with these big six clubs. And, for the first time, Martinez will face the challenge of Europa League matches.

So your forecast is not very adventurous after all, JR. It will indeed be asking a lot of Everton to finish even in fifth place once again. But the Europa League does offer them an alternative route into the Champions League. Perhaps Everton should concentrate their resources on that instead of the league.

However, there may well be upsets. Rodgers, at Liverpool, will also be leading his club into Europe for the first time. He will have to replace Suarez too. And Spurs and Manchester United will both start the new season under new managers. And who knows how Stoke and Crystal Palace will perform?
Are you beginning to have doubts in the ability of Martinez to take Everton forward after all this highest points total malarkey?

You have made some good points there Barnsley, I wonder if the other two amigos will finally see the light. ;) B) :P
As I’ve already posted at least three times, Martinez was not brought in at Everton to ‘take Everton forward’.

He was brought in by them because their highly rated manager had been headhunted by Man Utd.

His goal is to maintain Everton’s position as a top half club on a shoestring budget, but in the process he has also brought on some of their young players and has them playing a style of football that is much more pleasing on the eye than under their previous manager.

The Champions League nonsense was, as I’ve said before, Bill Kenwright trying to appease the disgruntled supporters on the appointment of a manager who just left a relegated club.

There’s little-to-no-chance of Everton making the Champions League (again as I’ve said several times on this thread), and I’m sure Kenwright knows this full well, hence why Martinez was rewarded with a new contract despite not making the top four.

So, in summary, there is no light to see.

And as for the knickers in a twist comment from your previous post, I (and I’m pretty confident most of the others who respect what he’s done for the club) wouldn’t be posting anything about Martinez on this forum if it wasn’t for bitter and twisted little men like you starting up threads in his honour!

You have made some good points there Barnsley, I wonder if the other two amigos will finally see the light. ;) B) :P
