This forum been dead for a while and it’s easy to see why. Have to agree with all the posts. Our only hopes are that 1 ,all these rumours about a potential change of ownership bear fruit before the window closes and the new owner has a modicum of ambition. 2 Caldwell can reproduce 70% of what Lincoln achieved last season with a small budget recruitment. I myself fear we are in for a tough bottom half season. The recruitment looks hit and hope.Still no proven goalscorer. Our midfield creativity is hanging on Trevitt who is no where near ready. Apart from Power the other signings are a massive gamble, but with Danson still in charge we can’t expect anything better. No assets left to flog tofund any purchases . 2 million out of his pocket would buy 4 decent league 1 players but we are not even in that payment range. We are now getting outbid by league 2 clubs …..what a sorry state. No matter how much crap the club spew about sustainability, budgets ” the right fit”…..it all adds up to zero ambition from the owner. Long, long time since I’ve spoke to so many supporters who as always look forward to a new season kick off…….but feel no optimism whatsoever.
Ps….Club quote Bettoni now gone for “Significant” compensation fee. Won’t let us bottom feeders know any transfer fees we receive……so we can’t call for whatever the amount is to be reinvested. 2.5 mill approx for Taylor (1 marquee signing)……..pretty sure Aasgaard, Tickle, Hughes,Bettoni etc plus a little back of Dansons sofa rummaging means it’s surely not out of our reach if we do have any REAL AMBITION!!!!
Have to completely disagree. His 1st touch is what created goals. He takes the shot early sometimes surprising the keeper. Saydee,Costelloe need 4 touches to make a decision, he doesn’t. One on ones he’s excellent. His role isn’t to win headers, it’s to sit on defenders shoulders ready to go. I’d have him at the drop of a hat……..unfortunately our owner puts that to bed…….instead a load of young kids with potential. Young players that promise but continually fail to deliver……going cheap in the hope Caldwell can do a Lincoln……throw the net far enough you may catch one……..then Eberneezer will cash in and hey presto square 1 reappears.
So no warm weather training this pre-season …..according to Sarah Guilfoyle it’s Caldwells choice. “We’ll spend the money saved on upgrading the training facilities “…..a f###### likely story !!…..More like our budget means 1 or the other. Christ almighty!!!!….What is our working budget???…..If we are so strapped then our recruitment will be a laughing stock…..
Niskinen ,one of our aledged targets joins Blackpool. Heard 2 weeks ago he was nailed on to be here as Caldwell being his ex manager was very close to him. The £500 a week including win bonuses probably saw that end to that bit of business. Saydee, Costelloe, Moseley, Perkins adds up to about 10 goals for the season so a serious bit of no money transfer magic needed!!!
Great posts. There are still many supporters who either choose to ostrich their heads or really believe Danson is the second coming . I struggle to imagine any potential investors wanting anything to do with us whilst he retains a stake. What would a buyer be getting with his wedge ? A squad worth nothing, all the assets sold and a ground deeds in misers bank vault!!!…..Not one of my friends or family have anything but negativity regarding this season and the hope of new ownership is really becoming just a dream. Like CW a Tom Morris to reignite the clubs flames by buying us then leaving the depressing ,crumbling stadium to Danson and the slutch rats would have me dancing on the rooftops…….alas a dream is all it is.
Tickle gone and no complaints…..lad thoroughly deserves to succeed…….a true Wigan man. Latest name branded about to arrive before Friday, Sonny Perkins from Orient. Couldn’t hold down a 1st team position last season, limited to 5 starts because of various injuries!!….Caldwellsaid he wanted robust players. …Figures………this is where we are as far as recruitment goes!!!
Beat me to it. Pitiful…..Wednesday nearly bankrupt…..at the front of the queue with Blackburn (260 million in the red)..to sign Joe Taylor…and so far with the fixtures on the horizon we’ve signed 2. Can’t even convince an 18 year old academy player to stick rather than twist . Feel for Caldwell…..surely he was given assurances!!!……What next ? Rumours Magennis coming back…FF’S……..wish my 3 season tickets had a 60 day refund policy and the F###### future funds I’ve paid……..I really thought at my age I was a lot wiser but obviously I’m a gullible bell end!!!!…….Unless there’s dramatic transfer activity to astound us then it’ll be another miserable, underperforming season in a 1/4 full stadium. I check several times a day on the news outlets praying for new decent ownership. For all the appreciation we have for Danson saving us the truth is we’ll be run on a mid table national league budget……probably be there in a couple of seasons…………had optimism when I bought season tickets but that has been draining away daily since.
The transfer window starts in earnest Monday so can only hope we get a couple of nice surprises. Fletcher signs for Huddersfield so Taylors exit looking nailed on. Surely investing the potential Tickle funds in him could reap big dividends…..that’s if he fancies coming back….Like everyone else I cant see it but a couple of quality acquisitions are a must if the owners really do have ambition and faith in Caldwell. The Power and Bennett signings look shrewd but need a lot more through the door in double quick time. If the Chelsea rumours about Bettoni are true then that’s a big one allowed to slip through the net. Personally I think it’s a silly career move…..u21 academy football for the foreseeable future wont aid his development……can only hope we get him back via a loan. No news on Matt Smith so again fingers crossed otherwise a ball player in the middle will be a difficult one to replace on our budget. Not heard any noises about potential new investors or owners but then again these people don’t do their business in public so we’d be last to know but looking like deep pockets is here for the foreseeable future.
Could be 1st of many. None of us know whether we are going to have investment or new ownership before the season starts so can only base our assumptions on what we know…….which means under the present owners we are likely to be f###### as far as any ambition. Listened to progress with unity podcast last night and they went through our contracted playing staff……a shit show is putting it politely. Charlie summed it up as dreadful. How many of our out of contract players have already negotiated deals elsewhere as we apparently have refused to discuss any renewals until the seasons finished……unf####### believable if that’s the case. If we cannot persuade a young academy player like Bettoni to stick around then we really are in trouble. Look at Adam Moseley….wasn’t he signed in January??.. from Runcorn linnets …..given a contract for 6 months???WTF…..if he shows a modicum of ability then we’ve shop windowed him. I’d like to believe our owners gave Caldwell recruitment assurances…no doubt he has sourced a couple from Exeter and heard after striker Nombe from Rotherham but with the contract/wages we’ll be offering then they’ll certainly have more attractive offers. Will be a very interesting summer…..I just pray we get a new more ambitious ownership group to purchase or invest Tom Morris would be a good fit otherwise I think for all Caldwells valiant efforts mid to lower table is nailed on. Haven’t renewed yet…..no doubt I will but would be persuasive to see what the owners plans are before I do. Wishful thinking!!!

Heard exactly the same on Saturday. Heard he wants ground but will consider purchasing without it.
