You are correct in pointing that out. But there was the little matter of a European qualifier on ITV that will have been a bigger attraction than shelling out £20 to see a very one-sided contest.
Now, tell me what was the “alternative” on 24 Jan, or on 7 Feb. Or 24 Feb. Or 17 Mar?
But I thought it was a rugby town, Mutty? Surely rugby fans wouldn’t have stayed in to watch wendyball on TV when their team are playing a game, would they? That would only happen if football was more of an attraction than rugby.
I guess you and your clique will have that dilemma next season when an international clashes with a 3rd division fixture.

Can anyone remember a few years ago when Swindon won the play off final v Leicester to get into the big league?. They were charged and found guilty of financial irregularities and demoted 2 divisions. Spurs were charged a while after and also found guilty for the same irregularity crime. They were fined heavily docked 6 points and threw out of the F A Cup. Alan Sugar spat the dummy appealed and got the points back and re-instated into the cup leaving them with just a fine. One rule for one and all that. :pinch:Very true apart from it was Sunderland who were the beaten finalists in that game, and Swindon had their relegation to the 3rd division reversed and stayed in the 2nd division.
Oh, and there were 35 irregular payments made by Swindon, whereas Spurs had made 3, and it was actually the club who brought the matter to light rather than being found out.
I agree that QPR will be re-admitted to the FL as they will blink first.
They would be a problem for a club with an owner worth nowt until his granddad shuffles off this mortal earth.
Fortunately, we currently have a billionaire owner who can cover that sort of loss with the interest earned in a month on his other ventures. Its probably even tax-deductible!
As he was an instrumental member of the side that won at Chelsea & Man Utd last season to secure another season of top flight football, then I would say yes he was. That said, he wasn’t worth the money he was asking in wages and a free transfer was the outcome. He got selected for the England squad in August on the back of those last 10 or so games. However its fair to say that he hasn’t exactly set the world alight up the road despite his £50,000+ a week salary.
The academy of light has paid for itself though. Off the top of my head, Martin Waghorn was sold to Leicester for £3 million. Grant Leadbitter was sold for £2.6 million, and Jordan Henderson was sold for £20 million. There are currently 20 U18s and 15 U21s – many of whom are out on loan to lower league clubs in order to gain experience.
And Jon Routledge in 2009Who spent 10 years at Liverpool before joining Wigan in 2007.
Sorry to bring it up, but during your 8 years, not a single youth team player made it through to the first team.
Aside from the man of the match in the cup final
Is that the one that came through Everton’s youth acadamy first?
Aint you glad you are no longer part of it?
You might be right. All those who did the Wigan walk on Saturday with their team 0-1 and Rotherham winning were thinking that the gap was 9 points and 3rd division football was inevitable. By the time they got to their cars, the gap was 5 points.
The chubbies don’t give tickets away eh dog breathSo your reading ability matches your spelling ability.
I suggest you get a grown-up, or a 5 year old, to read the article for you. In particular the bit in bold.
W-H-E-L-A-N
Hasn’t something like that (home-grown) already been implemented – and abused.
Chelsea’s 25-man squad includes 3 “home grown” players:
John Terry
Gary Cahill
Cesc Fabregas!Liverpool’s includes 9, but only Lord Gerrard was developed through them. The remaining 8 were signed from other clubs.
Man City have 5, which includes Frank Lampard!!
Sunderland have a few – all of which were signed elsewhere. Somehow, a current Swedish international is amongst their quota!
Yes. Its a league of greed, where the rich get richer. Its a league where there are only 2 potential winners, and only 6 clubs that realistically stand a chance of making the top 4. Its a league where 8 clubs start the season with expectations of a European spot and 12 clubs start with survival the only target.
Its a league that is full of foreign merceneries that come over for a big pay-day, then use their foreign agent to angle for another big money move before their contract is up.
Its a league that stifles youth development, from the largest to the smallest. Man City haven’t had a youth team player come through since Micah Richards. Sorry to bring it up, but during your 8 years, not a single youth team player made it through to the first team.
Its a league that doesn’t give a toss about fans, and will happily re-schedule games at short notice to suit their tv paymasters, even if it means that the fans of both clubs have no ability to get home via public transport.
Its a league full of average players earning sums of money in a month that a soldier earns in a career. The likes of Steven Fletcher (7 goals in 2 years) spending a month’s wages on his new £200,000 car epitomises everything that is wrong with modern day football.
To put it into perspective, I’ve spent most of my working life with men and women who received just over £10 per day as a “bonus” for the privilege of being shot at, bombed, rocketed on a daily basis for 6 months in Afghanistan and Iraq.
As a follower of a club whose PL existence is under threat on an annual basis, do I care if they get relegated? Answer – Not really, as I’m utterly sick of it, and what its done to English football.
Both sides 2-0 down. Fulham a man down.As you were.
Apart from you have one less game to overhaul one of them.
And how many points start will you get because of your crowd size?As many as you will in league 1.
Seriously tho do you think Dick is a good choice?, by all accounts he is a real task master and shouts a lot. May not endear himself to certain types.I doubt it. TBH, I don’t think even Jose could get much more out of this current crop.
There is a core of players there who are like cancer. Off the pitch, they do what they like, when they like. You probably saw the photos of Bardsley passed out in a casino covered in £££. Martin O’Neill couldn’t manage them, so he stopped showing up to training by all accounts, Di Canio sussed them, and banished two of the chief ringleaders, but the others effectively downed tools, Gus tried pandering to them and for a while it worked, but then the cancer took hold again and the performances dipped. As Gus had been lean with the “in crowd”, he couldn’t then become Mr tough, and crack down, as they’d already seen off his predecessor.
Sadly, its a symbol of todays premier league, where mediocrity earns huge amounts, far more than the managers used to when they were great players. The likes of Poyet, Keane & Di Canio were great trainers, workers, players, and earned much less than the current crop, who have about 10% of their ability, hunger, desire etc.
Until these players are removed from the club, we will continue to struggle.
