most of our players even now after 5 Euro games have probably played less games than most players in our league.

In principle I agree with what you say about tiredness except that you have to factor in that a number of our squad are internationals and have played those too with travel, so they haven’t played so few.

It would be great if we did, wouldn’t it?

The allegations are that players got booked in return for substantial payments from betting syndicates.

Not to spite the manager and get a day off over Christmas.

Away to Fleetwood or Burton would do me – not been to either

Have just looked for a YouTube clip for Senna the Soothsayer from Up Pompeii saying “Woe, woe, and thrice times woe” for you lot. Can’t find one easily, and can’t be bothered wasting much of my life doing so.

Joanne from travel puzzle will e-mail you the details. She’s sent it me a couple of times – I’d forward it to you now but my phone only stores so many days e-mails so I can’t get to it (she sent it last around the time she have you my details)

I’ve been in touch with her and she’s sent me the info, thanks

Martinez didn’t renew his contract when it came up for renewal on the rolling basis. The net effect is of course that he no longer wanted to stay with the club. Whelan agreed to him not renewing, so there was a sound mutual agreement on friendly terms. As the contract was up for renewal neither side broke a contract, as it had expired, but if all had been going well and he had wished to stay then another contract would have been put in place.

With Coyle, despite the rhetoric, what has happened is that they have quickly reached a compromise agreement. All this “do you want me to resign” and “yes if you will” stuff is smoke and mirrors. We all know that if Coyle hadn’t resigned (which technically strengthens DW’s position as it’s OC who has broken the contract) then DW would have sacked him. The overall outcome, publically, is the same. Contract torn up and OC is paid off an amount, which will have been less than the outstanding pay over the period ahead.

                          I’m just stating employment law.

A 12 month rolling contract means that it will be renewed automatically after 12 months all being well – which it wasn’t. It doesn’t mean it “rolls on” month by month. His contract was still due to expire in July or whenever.

However, even if he had a 3 year fixed contract he wouldn’t be paid the full amount. A contract says that you will work for us in this particular role doing this and that, and we will pay you an agreed amount. And that’s what happens “all being well”.

Whelan has now said we are finishing this contract because you aren’t producing the goods. We stop it now, you’re fired (or mutually agree that in the best interests etc etc) and we aren’t paying you any more salary. The contract is torn up.

Coyle has two options. Option one is that he can take the club to Employment Tribunal claiming unfair dismissal and/or a civil action for breach of contract. The huge disadvantage to him is that (a) if he loses he has to pay substantial costs, and (b) the club’s defence will be that he has in fact broken the contract first by not living up to his side of the bargain. He hasn’t done the job he was employed to do. His methods, his relationships with the team and owner, his effectiveness etc will all be put under public scrutiny.

The alternative is that he agrees an amount (called “a compromise agreement”) in return for taking no further action against the employer. Obviously this is NOT the full amount of wages due. He has a reasonable pay-off, and walks away without details of his reign being hung out for public interest, and importantly for future possible employers to pore over.

I did say it would have to be less frequently used than current yellow cards, but as for what happens when/if a goalie gets sin-binned – well he just has to make sure he doesn’t get sin-binned, doesn’t he?
