I have to disagree with the OP.
Yes – I’m as nostalgic as the rest. Yes – I find the Premier League to be boring. Yes – old teams probably had more team spirit (although they were still off sharply if a bigger team came sniffing).
But to say that the team that won what I still call the Third Division can be compared with a team that is playing in the Premier League is stretching the rose-tinted spectacle thing a bit far.
Unfortunately.
and both times we only improved offer by 1/2 mill.
Improved offer by “only” by 1/2 million.
Do you ever bid on eBay?
And we know what wages were being offered?
It may be the same transfer fee, but if he was being offered wages that are outside what we were willing to pay then there’s nothing we can do about it.
Bottom line though – is that if I were a footballer and had the choice of going to Wigan or to Everton I’m afraid I know which I’d choose.
What so they are all wrong aswell.
If I accept the premise that the people you speak to are right, then I have to accept that the majority of people I speak to are wrong.
We’ll agree to disagree :)
And in no way was I doubting your credentials, and am sure that, like everyone on here we want our team to do well.
For me Europe or Championship title are both possibilities. I’m not going to lose any sleep about which one it will be. I can do nothing to influence it. Quite a few people here ought to mug up on Circles of Influence.

the majority of people i spoke to after the game all said they where sick of it
Maybe that says something about the people you speak to.
Or did they just nod as you had a little rant and say “Er – yeah – well…” while backing away slowly? ;)
dave wheelan needs to respond to thisWhat’s it to do with Dave Whelan (spelt correctly)? These were public order offences allegedly being committed away from the stadium. Purely a policing matter. Write to GMP.
anyone witness
Those Amish are real troublemakers
Sorry – I can’t agree with the Doom & Gloom.
We weren’t particularly crap – Southampton were surprisingly good. They were up for it. They challenged. They clearly had a game plan to close us down and not let us do our fancy stuff – and it worked. Almost to perfection.
We will learn from this. Players need to up their game. The onus is on them.
We didn’t play well (that’s not the same as “we were crap”), but got a point that we didn’t deserve. I have certainly seen us play a lot worse.
And to do those who booed DURING the game – get a life. Do you really think that helps???
Not sure about most over-rated, but certainly had a bad ‘un today
Huge credit to Southampton. They chased and harried us, closed us down quickly, and probably deserved more.
Our players needed to up the pace and didn’t. Nothing to do with tactics or selection – all to do with players’ minds.
I agree Scharner had a good game. I noticed all through the game his movement at corners created a lot of space, and it surely can’t be coincidence that both goals came from corners.
Kone is still in Africa I think.
No-one can say one way or the other way whether he did turn us down. Was it a firm offer, or someone asking him if he’d be interested.
The window is now shut – no point speculating.
No reason why not.
