I agree he has come a long way and now looks like he’s ready to go on to higher things.
With all due respect hopefully that is with an ambitious forward thinking club rather than unfashionable backwater club with delusions of grandeur living in the back of winning a sole low key trophy in their entire history.
Hope he stays here until the summer when he has hopefully attained at least 20 goals and will have more choice and better prospects.
Good luck to him , a fine player. An incredible goal yesterday and what a player , Nick Powell mark 2.
Was it me or did he seem a tad emotional after that goal went in ?
Don’t wish to be a doom monger but a thought it was off given how late the goal went in.7546
Most certainly wont be selling out the East stand to aways if we get through the FA cup to face Fulham.
one sheet of the North will be sufficient based on what they used to bring.Sadly any smallish club from L1 that gets promoted to the championship to survive there has to have very deep pockets as we have found out in recent times.
Until they disable parachute payments that league has now become Premier League 2 as we all feared it would.
We are in my opinion now a nursery club for the big guns and at best L1 with the odd cup run.
I wish I could be more positive but fear more of the same in the years to come.
Watched a rerun of a superb game yesterday versus Arsenal in November 2005.
On that evening in the table Latics were the second best team in the country , it was like watching a dream , full stadium and a very exciting vibrant Latics team.
How times change.13565
Never understood why they play games New Years days anyway , one of the flattest days of the year in my opinion and I never understand who they don’t use the spring and late summer bank holidays like they used to.
Surprised at the flash flooding though after a relatively dry and calm festive period.Wrexham very lucky today and our bogey player Fletcher who must have been itching to be on given the amount of goals he has scored against Latics over the years at the zillion clubs he has played for.
One of those days today but pushed a team with good fortune on their side very close today.
Hopefully the woeful home form can improve going into the new year.11768
I would say that will never happen.
Coming from that area as a child I can remember the Rugby union side very rarely having gates around 2000 on but when they did draw a gate of that size had issues with car parking etc.
The stadium at orrell would not not hold crowds big enough to house Latics even as a non league club.
There is zero infrastructure for car parking and even the train service nearby only runs till teatime as far as I know.
I wouldn’t lose any sleep over that.Lacked intensity after second goal went in and they pushed hard to get back into it.
Some poor mistakes that you would not expect of 10 year olds never mind professional footballers.
Fair play to Shrewsbury who spotted the laxity and took full advantage, that is the mark of professional football in my opinion. Our players let their standards slip and those standards should be a given , you must never disrespect the game like the team did yesterday.
It’s two points dropped and more unnecessary extra pressure going into an already pressurised period for games.
So what should have been an easy game on paper blown and now some very tough games ahead and the table could look very different in early January.Good Friday 1979
First ever game and arguably the finest ever Latics comeback.
How about “The Long Good Friday” Vince?
I’ll go for Mission Impossible
That would have been a great title.
Was a very long first 70 minutes from memory.
Have a vague memory of the sky turning black as the third goal went in from Port Vale replaced by bright sunshine as Latics staged their glorious comeback.
Latics have staged many great comebacks over the years but not one as good as that one.
Had a chat with big Noel Ward about this game a few years back.
My first ever game watching Latics.Good Friday 1979
First ever game and arguably the finest ever Latics comeback.
A nice moment to enjoy and hopefully the players will carry that forward tinnext Saturday.
That save early in second half was turning point for me , had that gone in I think it would have lifted them and the crowd and we may have collapsed.
Tickle is worth so many points to the club it’s unbelievable, best goalkeeper this club has ever produced.
His assurance in the box is so good also , takes crosses so well and is like an extra defender.
Man of the match yesterday for me. -
