An excellent performance from start to finish and just what was needed and gives Maloney some breathing space.
The out field players were all great however Sam Tickle was once again immense with some crucial saves and crucial catches in at key moments when Bolton were applying pressure.
He reads the game so well and will be a huge loss when the inevitable happens.
Best performance this season by a mile.8035
In ( better) times gone by our lads would have looked at that crappy weather and collectively swapped grins of delight and a collective thought that this lot won’t fancy it today.
The ground was a secret weapon in that regard , situated in by far the grimmest location in town , bad weather was a godsend at times.
Not so today and that was the most disappointing thing, most of them hid away and but for Sam again with two glorious saves it could have been an even heavier defeat.
I have seen some dire Latics displays but always felt they tried , not so today.
Poor team selection ,bad management, lack of effort may be to blame yes but my finger points firmly towards the boardroom now as it’s clear this team is just not up to the fight that lies ahead and help is needed in the next window.
No fight , no direction and it all feels like a rudderless ship from top to bottom at present ans people are now voting with their feet.
If no decision is made soon about where this club is going soon then expect more dwindling attendances and a sink into the bottom 4 because that display today had relegation written all over it.
Gawd help us next Saturday is all I can say !Felt sorry for our manager last night , he looked totally dejected.
He has to build a house with plywood and breeze blocks, no feckin chance.
Toothless display again in the final third despite the efforts ano fair play to the lads out there giving their best Certain I heard a sky commentator say he needs a lift with the team he has.
If not then it’s relegation possibility for me and same place next year in league 2 with this awful policy.Grimsby away in early 1990s arguably worse than that.

Did well to withstand that pressure which was very encouraging but man of match for me was again Sam Tickle.
So many times he made why looked like routinesaves from shots and bounces but they were anything but on that weather. as they dug in and his distribution was superb.
He makes the job of goalkeeper look so easy and I reckon his contribution won the points yesterday and he was easily man oft the match for me.
A real nugget we have got there , let’s hope we have a few more in that development squad.Poor game played in dreadful conditions but the goal was a rare moment of quality and very well worked and Thelo took advantage of some bad defending score a very good goal.
Always good to beat Barnsley and even more so since the shenanigans of 2020.
One swallow doesn’t make a summer however positives are that league 1 is one of the worst for many years and a couple of back to back wins could take a club near the play offs as much as a couple of defeats could take you nearer the relegation zone.I am also Not really interested in any of this pointless PR bull**** , women’s teams, all hold hands with the chubs , one town , joint season tickets blah blah blah !
It in my view it just deflects things away from the main problem facing Latics at the moment and we all know what it is.
Let’s face it , this team of kids are a reserve team that are being asked to play and compete at the third highest standard in the English pyramid and without some serious input in the January transfer window are very likely going to be at the foot of the fourth tier in one years time.
No PR or deflecting is going to change that very simple fact and there really is only one issue for me.
Get the team sorted and fast please !!!7756
Aeful negative football last night that is boring to watch and a zillion miles away from the cut and thrust Latics teams of the past.

Massive signs now that this policy is going to produce lower home crowds and eventually league 2 football , slippery quick fire decline unless this policy is reversed and quick !
i just cannot see the sense of it , clubs at EFL level are not self sufficient and arguably have never been so unless you are a club like Bradford with 18,000 every other week at home or a club with parachute payments.
I keep reading on here about tactics etc but the problems are much deeper than that in my opinion.7818
I agree , he needs to find ways of placing those lads around the first team especially as most of the current bunch will be history this time next year.
We are crying out for a bustling centre forward like Stones in the first team and he may as well try them
Out here and there. -
