Whelan has said in an interview, he doesn’t know if any club has approached martinez.Did’nt he say he had had no approaches for Martinez at all?.Where is this honesty between them,he must have asked martinez had he been approached.
The honesty is between Whelan and Martinez, not Whelan and you/Sky Sports.
Why,don’t you think we deserve,as paying, loyal customers, the honesty as well.
SO was Tony Pulis stabbed in the back by plotters behind the scenes at the Britannia Stadium?
Or was he merely an inevitable victim of the club’s progressive desire to steer the ship with more of a head coach than a manager?
This was taken from a Staffordshire paper. They are bringing in a director of football.etc etc. Is;nt that the reason Martinez didn’t go to Liverpool?
Attendances are bound to go down! And there aren’t many teams who will fill the away end either. There are the local derbies – and several teams over the Pennines – to keep interest high.
And a top six place would bring some fans in. Would you rather win promotion outright or have yet another trip to Wembley?
Forest, leeds, bolton, leicester, burnley, derby, sheff wed to name a few who would bring at least 3,000.if we get Doncaster home first game think they would bring a few as well.expect crowds for say, leeds to be around17-18,000.
To be fair, something Stoke have is a good defence, something I wish we had had for just two more games over the last season. With that base there already, it is only half a midfield and a striker he would need to start off.I would be disappointed if he went there as I still think he would better here than there even in the Championship, plus my gut says if he is going to move on it will be to Malaga (or abroad somewhere) – I don’t reckon he’ll go Everton either.
Yes,but trying to get that defence to play out from the back, will mean a few big defeats with the mistakes they will make.
Bet he is thinking over the stoke job, they have given him 48hrs to decide.Plus they have a lot of money to spend.
Very much doubt him even considering the Stoke job. If anywhere, I can see it being either Everton or Malaga.
Malaga may be kicked out of Europa cup and skint by all accounts.
Everton will have to sell ,so they can make signings.A lot of their sky money going on paying debts off.Stoke loads of money available to bring in players, but will take time to adjust to the martinez style.Don’t think the fans will like a few heavy losses along the way.Bet he is thinking over the stoke job, they have given him 48hrs to decide.Plus they have a lot of money to spend.

Talking of stats there’s a lot of moaning about tippy-tappy football, lack of fire-power, too slow thro’ midfield etc. etc. Then there’s the comparison with Swansea, the fire-power of Benteke & Michu etc. et bloody cetera..
Well we scored 47 goals this season, same as Swansea & Villa
more than West Ham (45), Norwich (41), Stoke (34), Newcastle (45) & Sunderland (41) and of course more than QPR & ReadingThese facts seem to show very little wrong with us going forward. As has been repeatedly pointed out the problem has been in defence.
Dark-siders will say that’s cos Martinez is a clown
Light-siders will say that’s cos of injuries to defenders.Pays your money, have your moan but don’t let the facts get in the way.
Exactly, it was Latics best top flight season in terms of going forward but if you’re going to need (on average) to score 2 goals every game just to get a point then you’re going down. Only United scored at a rate of 2+ a game on average
Where do I stand on what was to blame? On the fence – I don’t think the injuries helped in so much as Latics never got to play their strongest defensive line up & playing together does help partnerships develop, but playing behind a settled back line wouldn’t have stopped the countless times Al Habsi palmed shots straight back into the danger zone, or Figueroa & Robles messing about with it at the back against Spurs, or Caldwell giving the ball away to Swansea to let em back into the game, or Scharner getting just about nothing right in the game at Arsenal last week, or McArthur making a mess of a defensive header against Swansea he week before, or Scharner getting caught in possession at WBA to let em go 2-1 up, or only managing a point against 10 men QPR & on & on
To be fair, if we hadn’t had the injuries, Scharner wouldn’t have even been here to make those cock-ups
al habsi most goalkeeping mistakes that cost points in opta stats 7
What Whelan needs to do regardless who’s manager come the 3rd of August is to stand firm on the sale of players and only sell when daft money appears on the table.
We have a couple of players I’m sure that other managers and possibly Martinez would love to take with him if he does decide to leave i.e. McCarthy, MacManaman, Maloney and its up to Whelan to fend them off.It takes a a particular type of player to get out of the championship, different from the type of player you need to stay in the Prem , horses for courses.
Steve “mynosekeepschangingshape” Bruce has just cleared 12 out to make room. We could be potentially looking at 12-15 players coming in !, Ijust hope it’s none of them ffs.
this is going to be a tough tough season for whoever takes the job on.
Martinez has already stated mcmanaman is better off staying at wigan, even in the championship. We get 23 mil parachute payments,2.4 mil for league position,1.8 for winning fa cup, potential transfer money of mccarthy 10 mil, kone 6.5 mil(buyout clause) =43.7 mil to play with.Surely we can get some decent players in,with the incentive to play in Europe etc.
here here,me and my three will be there next season.do you really thin if we had stayed up anything would have been different.you just watch the prem next season,i can more or less pick the bottom six or seven now.in no particular order.
Norwich
villa
sunderland
hull
wtaford/palace
Fulham(jol going,no money)
sothamptonmy opinion, martinez can train/teach players to keep the ball, but go nowhere with it.cannot teach/coach players to defend.his teams look good on the pitch/playing wise, but results count and he has been proved not good enough in league form.one unbelievable cup run and a day me and my kids will never forget.but look at his other years in cups.in cups it is a one off game, but the league eventually finds you out and it has.
my opinion, given me the best feeling in my life at football, but the hype is not to be believed.wish him well if he goes but do not think he will be given the time he has here if he has some of the results we have had in his time here 9=1 at spurs for one.why is that what he will have if he goes to everton?
it is a point to ask is the hype of Martinez to be believed.
an awful lot of people do not think so.losing lukaku to replace with di can’t score. :silly:
