Not been on here for a while as to be honest site now seems just an insult page between two small groups and got fed up of people’s moaning. Which they have a right to do btw as I chose to stop listening. Anyway ironically felt the need to come back and have my moan so bear with me.

I don’t believe Cook is a bad manager, sets the team up well, we have a decent squad of players and he got us promoted and then kept us up which is what the previous incumbents failed to do.

However the issue I have is his substitions. They are killing us, so many points lost due to them. Not just away btw but at home were he gets away with them but games were we are coasting suddenly became a struggle.

The changes almost seem decided before the game rather than reacting to the game, they are always like for like which changes nothing, often weakens us as the sub cant get into the game. We bring on a different type of player but don’t adapt the tactic. Garner for Moore every week is so frustrating especially when we continue the same long ball tactic to the much smaller replacement. The ball then stops getting held up and we then become under pressure.

Try a different sub, why not Windass if Moore was shot? The game was stretched his pace in the channels and behind would have been ideal?

Pilkington and Geldhart on the bench ironically the two subs he has made this season who have made an impact and neither been used since. Why?

I think it’s his natural negativity which then is portrayed in his subs which ultimately cost us. I think Cocu and Cooks comments sum it up unfortunately.

I made changes to go even more offensive.
“That’s why the game opened up because I had one thing on my mind and that was getting the three points.”

Against a team the calibre of Derby, they are always liable to hurt you, and that was never more evident than with their late goal.

      Thoughts?

Have you posted a similar thread elsewhere by any chance? To repeat what I said on that same site (if it is what I think it is). I like cook. But I agree with you with his decisions on substitutes. Shocking & baffling at times.

Whelan’s history of sacking managers wasn’t always a good thing.

Surely the powers that be should sit him down and demand answers about this dreadful away run.
It is much more than a blip and bad luck and changes are needed to sort it out.
Players are slacking and drifting away from
The pressure of the DW and the very demanding Latics supporters. They need to have a look at themselves !!!
Sacking him isn’t the answer given that we have been relegated in the seasons we did just that.

I nearly spat me cornies out reading this this morning from Cook:

“As you’ve seen with young Joffy, I think when results go well, the clamour for the younger lads to be in and around the team isn’t as strong, but when results aren’t going so well, sometimes we can look to them as the one’s to carry the torch,” said Cook, who decided not to bring him on in the midweek loss at Derby County.

“I always think for any young player coming into winning teams and successful teams is a lot better than coming into teams that sometimes maybe aren’t doing so well, so the progression of all the young lads at our club must be dealt with in the correct and proper way.”

He’s basically saying, if were winning he’ll get game time??? Wtf is he on about. Rule one, if you winning every week dont upset the apple cart, bar injuries you keep the same starting 11. Why the fookin hell would you play the lad in a winning side? there’s be no need.
The reason people are complaining is because we cant by a goal right now relying on Dunkley ffs but Cooks hell bent on playing players who cant score.

Cook your talking utter fookin shite m8 once again and your out your depth in the Championship. Your fear of losing cost us again.

If your winning keep the winning side, if you can’t buy a goal change it. He seems to think if your winning change it, what a crock of shit .
The Derby game was there for the taking. We were on top and Lowe failed to put the game to bed. Moore was hands on hips 70 mins gone.
Easy decision, bring on Geldhart for Moore, fresh legs and let him try and do what he did at Hull.

No no, Cook bottles it and it back fires. We’ll never get a better chance to take 3 points away at Derby but Cook preferred a point.
Do I blame the players ?, no. If we play to Moores strengths, and when a games for the taking go for it.

With Cooks statement about looking after the young lads means he’s not worthy of 10-15 minutes.
Rubbish Cook either give Moore the correct service or play Geldhart more often or regular sub time and wean him in.
Were bottom of the away form League, worse goal difference, 1 point from a possible 21. If carry on like that well have to win 2 thirds of our home games.

Ffs Cook, grow some away will ya !!

How to twist things to suit your agenda eh?

I read that as him saying that he would rather drip feed Gelhardt into the side when we are ahead and there is no pressure on him rather than chuck him in at the deep end saying “we haven’t scored/won in ages lad, over to you” Granted it worked at Hull but I understand his idea of not wanting to burden the lad too early in his career.

Let’s be honest, if he came on and missed a few chances he’d be sh*te according to most of our fans. I mean didn’t a few on here slate him after a 10 minute cameo against Birmingham because he lost the ball trying to take someone on?

I’d love nothing more than to see him come on and be an instant hero but it is easier for youngsters to come into a side full of confidence as opposed to one on its arse.

The rugby for example introduce at least five young lads into the team a season. Most are when we have injuries and it is a necessity otherwise they come off the bench in a game we should win easily when we are winning easily. Say being 20-30 points up against someone. If we don’t win the game as easily as expected then they don’t play. They don’t get chucked on on Good Friday when we’re losing and be expected to win us the game.

Totally disagree…no one expects him to completely change the game everytime he comes on but Derby was perfect for another introduction. Shame Cook is cemented in his no risk, safety first approach and look where it gets us again. With those 3 forward minded players on the bench he again went a point will do and got his pocket picked . So if were waiting for games when we comfortably in front before taking the bubble wrap off then he wont see pitch time again. We have an underperforming team with a tactically lost manager, who shows no sign of changing his philosophy so Geldhardt will not get any opportunities to shine here or will have his career stunted like Moore. Sick to the teeth of Cook and his numbing football only the Royles and co know why he’s allowed a charmed life here, anywhere else he’d have gone last season.

I’m really not sure it was perfect for him. A game where we are 2 up or an FA Cup game to start him possibly, but who does he come on for on Wednesday?

I do agree though that Pilks should have come on but he isn’t as defensively minded as Naismith so you run the risk of losing. Maybe we should just take the risk sometimes though which again I agree with.

                        #181578

Pep Guardiola drip feeds one of the best English talents in years into his all conquering team giving him 10 mins here and there and the odd start and he’s a genius.

Paul Cook doesn’t bring an 18 year old on and he’s an idiot. Can’t mek it up.

Course it was perfect Ad. Bring him on for Moore and he’d have outmuscled the Derby defenders twice his size and volleyed home from 30 yards to complete his hat trick inside 5 minutes and would have cleared two off our line for good measure. I can,’t believe Southgate hasn’t picked him yet.
