Well IF he spent 2.5 million (was it that much ?) on Windass, then that would have me nervous for a kick off
Maybe that’s what £2.5 million gets you these days.
Well Donny, what did Blackburn pay for Dack ? …..(who appears to be doing far, far better than Windass)
Very true.7 November 2018 at 12:56 pm #172971In support of Cooky we played with plenty flare, creativeness and hard work last season but this league is a huge step up.
I like many was pretty happy with the signings in August but had doubts about a couple but at least it looked like we had signed players to cover in most positions. Macca, Garner, Evans and Windass sounded great and we had kept Powell.
In reality we would never have expected to be using 4 or 5 players as cover in a match.
This just didn’t happen last season. It may have been a little harder last season if that was the case.We also played with plenty of flare and creativeness at the start of the season until the injuries kicked in.
We’re Wigan Athletic, we don’t have a squad of 25 world beaters.
7 November 2018 at 2:03 pm #172972I think some on here need a reality check.
We are a newly promoted club. The transition from League One to Championship was not funded to any great extent by the Whelan family who said some time ago they would not be investing any more of their own personal cash. The club and the potential new owners had stated this was a season of consolidation, the primary goal being not to get relegated. We were playing a team at the top of the league strongly tipped for promotion with a highly regarded manager. We had at least three, possibly four, first team regulars our injured. We lost by the odd goal in a game which for all the frustration of the performance could have snatched a point. Yes, the results of late have been disappointing but unless we have most of our first team regulars available this should not come as a surprise.
7 November 2018 at 6:01 pm #172973Now come on Sammy, you know as well as I do that we should be 20 points clear and winning every game 4 or 5 nil.
7 November 2018 at 7:17 pm #172974Come on …some of the signings are woeful. Were Leeds that good ? Sorry not in my eyes ,easy when its made easy for you.Hunt,Garner,Windass,Cole,Walker,Gibson,Naismith etc have added nothing to our squad ,Cole ,Walker particularly baffling signings.Kipre ? jury still out for me. Blackburn added a couple ,put Dack on new deal and grabbed Armstrong and kept to same style as last season and hey Presto.Yes the injuries have impacted but a weak bench has been our downfall…..that’s why I find it hard to believe any cash to spend handed over may not be in Cooks hands.

We had some of the highest paid players in League One and I dont think the pies and cat p1ss at half time paid for them

Lol they’ll tell you that but if you’re slowly slipping down the League peg by peg heading into a relegation scrap do you not think Darren Royale (who’s first and foremost a business man) will make drastic changes in the hope we stay up ? and we all know who goes first
(Leeds game) We were playing a team at the top of the league strongly tipped for promotion with a highly regarded manager.
I thought Leeds were a good outfit, granted but it was a case of us playing utter sh*t rather than Leeds been outstanding. They’ve won 4 in their last 12. If Leeds lose and results go against them their 6th. To say they were anything other than a decent side is a massive overstatement. Niasmith made us look like we’d took a red card in the 1st minute.
We had at least three, possibly four, first team regulars our injured. We lost by the odd goal in a game which for all the frustration of the performance could have snatched a point.
Not frustrating, we were absolutely crap and have been for a good few matches. Look at the stats, they dont lie. We would have snatched a point if Walton didn’t open his gob and Leeds had 3 or 4 sent off. We lost because we played sh*t not because Leeds are world beaters.

So who are these ? Jacobs who blows hot and cold, 1 minute he’s outstanding then the next he’s like he cannot be arsed. Then there’s Grigg who gets no service what so ever which is no fault of his own. As a whole the squad is terrible. We lack flair skill idea’s and a front line that beggars belief. I’m lead to believe we paid 1.4 million for Garner ? that for me is as bad as it gets for wasting money. Our game is all about running around till your balls fall off which is fine if there’s a plan but there isn’t.
I’m sure Royle will be weighing up the whole situation and if we near the drop someone will bite the bullet. If money isn’t put down then I cannot see how we’ll stay with our current squad, it’s simply not good enough.
7 November 2018 at 8:19 pm #172976What has changed your opinion since the start of the season when we had pace and creativity and Gibson was class?
7 November 2018 at 8:40 pm #172977Sheff Wed home….Gibson did well. Injured, comes back utter dross. Commits gb at Preston, returns and looks way off.
7 November 2018 at 8:50 pm #172978What has changed your opinion since the start of the season when we had pace and creativity and Gibson was class? We punched above our weight which resulted in his premature optimism being dented, that’s what’s changed.
I think we are a mid to lower-mid table team which is how I expected this season to pan out. Anything better than that will be a bonus.
7 November 2018 at 8:58 pm #172979Well I’m expecting nothing away to Boro but if we don’t pick up at least 4 pts from the following two home games then we are going to be struggling and the axe man will be getting his grinding machine warmed up! We have picked up just 4 pts from our last 7 games. 7 pts or less from 10 games would be cause for concern to those upstairs I reckon!
7 November 2018 at 11:47 pm #172984You have to love wiganers.
8 November 2018 at 12:24 pm #172990They have already said money will not be spent funding promotion but on player development. They want us to produce our own talent so who knows the current squad better than Cookie. He will be going nowhere unless we really start to struggle.
8 November 2018 at 3:24 pm #172996Already doomed if you listen to some one here
8 November 2018 at 7:31 pm #172999The CEO of IEC has stated in his first and only interview so far funds are available never understandably named a figure and not had a a statement from our new chairman yet which I find strange.
10 November 2018 at 9:20 pm #173033Next 3 games I expect a
Reading win
Blackburn draw
Bolton win
Anything less and I think the alarm bells will be ringing,I reckon the owners will be thinking the same.
Those results will settle everyone down and with players returning we’ll climb the league and we’ll be allreet. -
