Malky was under the threat of the sack at the Reading away game. A win saved him. So maybe Sharpy has had plan B drafted up for a few weeks. Watch the interview and feel encouraged, could turn out to be a refreshing change that we need.

So who would you have appointed Mr Galactic ? When you take your head out of the clouds, come up with a sensible choice with trademark success and no baggage. Mmmm, not easy is it
In our predicament it would be difficult to attract a decent manager, but Redfearn or Warburton would have been my choice. Both have little experience but seem to be doing a good job.

I tried to be positive about the Coyle & Mackay appointments, but they both proved bad ones. This latest one has all the trademarks of both the afore mentioned!

I don’t really have a problem with the appointment, I didn’t see anybody in the running who I wanted or who would come.
We probably only need a few tweeks in playing players in the right positions and the best players for those positions. If we see Fortune/Clarke playing again on Friday we know we’ve still got a problem internally.

Well up for giving a passionate, Wigan Athletic mon a chance. We should all be, after all he isn’t Malky Mackay but he aint half got a job on. How we gave that fcker a transfer window to get ‘his team’ is beyond me.

It’s just the way we pile straight in with little thought it appears. Think we are all United in hoping GC does well. Just hard to be convinced.

You don’t really think this appointment has been made without little thought do you?
I do. And the club has form to suggest it has. Otherwise Coyle, Rosler and Mackay would never have ended up here and wed’ve binned Mackay for a suitable replacement long before we found ourselves well and truly fcuked.

It’s the leadership whose head is in the clouds. I can think of several experienced names that could fit the bill, but my gripe isn’t so much Gary (and him knowing and understanding our club is undoubtedly an asset).
My gripe is the process that yet again seems rushed and not thought through.

What experience has he really got? If he was the only candidate, why? Did we really not consider ANYONE else? And if he was such a shoe in, why hasn’t he been part of the 1st team coaching set up for a while to bed him in? Caretaker I get, but so quickly appointed as permanent? Baffling.

He has my support – MM never did – but like Fil I don’t see this ending well.

I’m quite sure others were considered and maybe even sounded out. You don’t really think all this has all happened on the spur of the moment beginning at five to five last night?

Think our posts have crossed. See my answer above. In short, given previous form it wouldn’t surprise me in the slightest if this all happened in 24 hours.

Coyle was chosen through a selection process, Rosler was headhunted and generally accepted as a quality appointment by most on here and Mackay, well that was Whelan making the biggest cock-up of his life.

A quote from The Master Fryer….. Chairman David Sharpe said Caldwell was the only candidate we considered. After a meeting with him on Monday and discussions all day Tuesday, Gary was the only candidate we considered because we are so convinced of his qualities.

GC is our new manager – end of so lets just give the guy a chance and get behind him. If MacKay was only saved by the Reading result do you think the powers that be haven’t been thinking about their options? I’d rather give a Latics man who wants the job a chance than bring in someone who’s out of work because he’s not delivered the goods at his previous club(s). Cauldwell knows the club and how it operates. He knows the players probably better than previous managers so he should know who are fighters and who are make weight. If we get relegated under his watch we are no worse off than we are now. His team selection, style and passion over these next 5 games will show what sort of a manager he will make. Lets just give him and the team our 100% support. Believe!!!!!

I don’t believe the decision to sack Mackay and the appointment of Caldwell was not thought about or discussed between Sharpe, Whelan and Jackson prior to the events of yesterday.

Our 2 most successful managers had strong links with the club. Caldwell will already know which baggage won’t be here next season as I’m sure at some point he’s heard the changing room moaning fookers and those who do and don’t give a dam. I bet they never thought in a million years that their next manager was amongst them ear wagging.

Good luck to the guy and a I heard a rumour from a player tonight saying Caldwells an excellent trainer and will make a v.g manager,

Good luck Gary let’s hope you can sort this gigantic mess out , it will take all of next season just to make sense of this mess .
